Wouldn't it be an OK thing to add the Emperor's theme to that scene also?

I agree with this. In fact, I think I suggested something similar way back. Although a few people agreed with me, I never got to hear ady's response. He did say that he wasn't adding any PT music, but this isn't a PT theme. It's from ROTJ in the OT. And if stretching the audio for the "yes, yes" portion ruins the music, then all the more reason to add the emperor's theme instead.

The key, as many posters suggested, was to do it subtle and not too loud. I think it could work perfectly if done right (and ady has proven himself to have a very good feeling for what's enough and what's too much)

It takes a big man to apologize, so I will give credit were credit is due. I like it the most when we can all get along, despite not agreeing on everything.

I also don't think you have anything to worry about. The great thing about the 2004 dvds were that they were cleaned up, so that they have the same crisp image quality as new movies. That alone will help bridge them to the PT. And with ady's color correction, we will get even closer. Ady also said that he will keep most SE Cloud City windows. The wampa and the Vader shuttle sequence will go, but I don't think they neccessarily tie the movie closer to the PT.

In short: I think the final product will blow our minds away just like ANHR.

I know we're years away from that, but an idea just came to me that I felt I had to get out or I'd forget about it:

Wouldn't it be possible to delete Boab Fett from Return of the Jedi?

He doesn't actually do anything in the movie besides standing around, and later looking like a lame punk in the pit battle, which takes away from his menace and mystery. Plus, it annoys me that he is still- 1 year after ESB- is hanging around Jabba's palace like some kind of goon. Shouldn't he be off getting new bounties?

I understand that it would rob the character of a complete story arch, but tons of other characters come and go without an actual good bye. When you think about it, Boba is a really minor character in the grand scheme of things. He has his plot purpose in Empire (& partly in Clones) and that's about it.

It would also work with the PT, having him appear in the middle movie of each trilogy. But that's just a bonus.

What do you think?

Edit: btw, I don't recall that Jango ever said anything with his helmet on, but AtoC is my least favorite Star Wars movie, so I might be mistaken.

Well, I think it being his opinion is implied. And as it is ady's edit, he has the final say on everything. You've been so supportive of ady all along, that I must say I found the recent turnaround a bit surprising.

As for the Cloud City windows: my compromise is this: keep most SE windows in the quite, calm scenes where Lando is giving a tour of the city.

And instead take out more windows in the quicker paced chase scenes. It will be a good contrast.

The clastrophic feeling is not needed in the earlier Lando scenes, because they are not supposed to be threathening. But it definately adds to the escape sequence.

It's the best of two worlds, IMO.

Hi, guys and girls! I've been gone for a while now. I se that the DVD-9 is now available. Plus that I hear work on ESB has already began. Ady, your work is impressive to say the least, I hope you don't burn out because of us though.

Did anyone put the dvd-5 Purist Edit on rapidshare or a torrent? I skimmed through the page, but I might have missed it. You never know.

Well, perhaps I had a more subtle alien in mind than Jar Jar ;)

But that is a good point. I think I've read before somewhere that what we follow in ANH and ESB is but one cell in the Rebellion.

Still, they do talk about "the rebel base" as if it was the only one. The sollustians and mon calamari that we se in ROTJ could have joined up after ESB.

I guess it could go either way :)

You know those threads that goes "was the Empire really evil?", that tries to paint the rebellion as bad guys? Those really bugs me.

Anyway, one of their arguments is that in such a widspread galaxy, it is still only humans that aid the Rebellion. Not until ROTJ do we se any alien members at all (besides Chewbacca).

Obviously, the real reason was effects and coustume limitations, but they try to paint the rebellion as rascists. My point is that, with the Rebellion growing in strenght after the massacre of Alderaan, perhaps we should se an alien or two among the rebels?

Unless this is too hard to do, of course, but it would be nice to undermine those kinds of threads further.

If you live in a country that uses the PAl system, can you still watch an NTSC-dvd? Does it matter if your broadcasting system is digital or anolog (sp?)? Because I think I would want the purist edit as well, for completion's sake. Sorry if my question is stupid as I'm really ignorant about these things :)

Well i have decided to take a break from the DVD-9's at the moment. Getting a bit burn out doing the special features and painting the cover is taking a lot longer than i first thought. I just didn't like my first design so i have started from scratch.

Anyway i have decided to do a NTSC DVD-5 only "Purist" edition of Revisited. There will be a few differences to the original version:

Obi-Wan's hut scene is returned to the original edit
No Darth Vader's theme in the movie
No music during the conference scene
No music during the lightsaber duel, original music cue restored.
No extended Tie fighter Approach during the Death Star battle, the pacing will be returned to its original state.

There will be no menus or subtitles on the DVD or any extras.

Ady, you keep going above and beyond what anyone would ever expect from you. This is especially nice of you, making an alternative version. Just a question from someone who knows nothing about these things: would an NTSC-dvd be watcheable on a Pal dvd-player? If what I have even is a Pal dvd, that is.

Adywan, you rascal you. I did consider it being a prank and I was never entirely convinced. But I must admit the resignation in your tone felt so genuine that I was leaning towards it being true. I think you fooled many of us here.

ImperialFighter, that's good use of a Star Wars quote. It' never wrong to quote Vader ;)

Anyway, let me just say how glad I am that you're gonna keep going. It surely means a lot to everyone else here as well.

Assuming that this isn't an april fools joke: ady, you have done some amazing work and nobody will blame you if you simply don't have the energy for another massive project. God knows I can get tired of the movies just from watching them to much during a certain period, forcing me to take a long break. I couldn't even begin to imagine how tired you must be of Star Wars right now.

Still, I would urge you not to make up your mind permanently. Maybe take a long break; 6 months, 1 year maybe, or perhaps even longer. And then se how you feel about the project then. After all, ESB will not require as much work as ANH. But in the meantime, enjoy your break from Star Wars. You've certainly earned it.

(again assuming this isn't a joke).

That's an impressive list. Just goes to show how much you miss. I've never cuaght any of those mistakes, but now I'm probably gonna spot them the next time I watch ESB.

I agree about the Yoda puppet in ESB; in fact, of all the different versions throughout the saga, this one is still by far my favorite. I'm still amazed how expressive he is and how alive he seems. No wonder that Hamill sometimes forgot that Yoda was a puppet, lol. I wouldn't change him, except maybe that suggestion about when he is on Luke's back.

Hi all!

These comparison screenshots are great! I didn't even spot half those changes when I watched the x-vid. Of course, I noticed that everything looked better, but not exactly what had been changed, so kudos for doing this. It made me apprieciate adywan's work even more.

Speaking as a technologically challanged person: I've downloaded all the files to the PAL dvd-5 from rapidshare, but I would be really glad if someone could walk me through how to burn them to a dvd. Perhaps through pms. I don't have a dvd-burner myself yet, but I have a friend who I'm hoping can help me with that detail. Then we are planning to have get some snacks and spend an evening watching ANH Revisited in all its glory.

I would personally prefer the old Boba Fett voice, mainly for two reasons:

1. the line delivary was better

2. the voice was more intimidating, fitting a feared bounty hunter

It's really easy to explain too: a voice modulator built into the helmet to make himself more frightening, to build on his reputation and such.

Remember when Leia was disguised as a bounty hunter in Return of the Jedi? To say that her voice then was very different from her own nautural voice is an understatement.

It seems too early for an episode VI thread. Those ideas will be forgotten when its time for that edit. We should just try to stick to ESB, even though it is easy to diviate, lol.

Anyway, somebody mentioned that Luke flies of the planet Hoth way too easily without encountering any imperials, and that it would be great to add the disabled Star Destroyer Tyrant (that was hit by the Ion Canon earlier) in the background.

I agree with that idea. I also think it would be a good idea to add some more Star Destroyers to Vader's fleet. Nothing much, just a few more to give it a grander feel. Kinda like the added AT-AT walkers ady will put in.

Ady will you fix the officer with the wrong rank insignia at the beginning? I would be happy to help you with how the insignias work if that's the case.

You're right, ady; ROTJ will surely be hell to edit, and you totally deserve a break and something a bit less demanding for a while. ESB is as you said a nearly flawless movie as it is, and most channges would simply be about removing some SE additions. For instance the wampa snow creature. Although I can't say that I really care about this scene one way or the other. The sequence only gets better for me after Luke staggers out into the cold and Han risks his life to find him.

I know its your edit ady and your desision, but I would suggest not removing too many of the SE windows. The OT is a little too cramped at times, and I liked how they opened the place up. Since you specifically mentioned the escape, perhaps you can keep the windows in the "Lando gives a grand tour" segment and only remove them in the escape sequence?

And finally, not to be repetetive but I would still advocate for a very subtle Emperor's theme in his scene. I've heard versions of this that are so quite that they are barely audible, but it still gievs a perfectly eerie feel and would IMO improve the scene and it connects so closely to the character, like some other posters agreed. But if you decide against it, I won't mention it again. It's totally your call, and I don't wanna get annoying. I only mentioned again because you didn't comment on that particular thin and I got curious.

The ewoks could perhaps have won on strenght of numbers, since there were a few hundred strormies at most against maybe 10 000 ewoks or more.

But what bothers me is not only how easily they go down, but how few ewoks die. We se 2, maybe 3, ewoks die and that's it. Meanwhile all the stormies die.

For instance: the scout walkers keep missing the ewoks for the most part, but when Chewie takes over it and aimes for the imperials, he's suddenly able to hit one every time.

The imperials have superior firearms. I'm fine with them loosing to the ewoks, but the ewoks should suffer heavy causulties. And less points in the battle should be played for laughts. I don't know how ady would do this, but it would make the film a lot better IMO.

Although that would be preferable, it would surely be hell for ady to do that.

I would be happy if he cut some of the most silly instances of ewoks somehow beating storm troopers with rocks and sticks and (if possible) re-edited the battle somewhat to show more ewoks getting killed by the imperials.

IMo, it should feel as if the rebels are loosing, until Chewbacca & co take over the scout walker. The way they defeat the walkers is fine, its how weak the stormies are that bothers me.

"How about if ADY just does Jedi first.....then there will be a huge list of actual things to fix.....how he is going to fix the ewok problem I don"t know.....Empire is decent the way it is when watching the entire saga now.....but ANH was hard to swallow(although great now with ADY's help), and ROTJ is way out there....So if he does Empire now, we won't be able to watch the entire saga with admiration until 2012ish. If he did Jedi now, we could watch the entire saga happily by around 2010.....and then very happily(after he tweaks Empire) by 2012. I know he won't do this, but you guys know it's true....peace!"

I have to say that I kinda agree with this. Aside from a few annoyances, I'm fine with ESB as it is. Now, ROTJ, on the other hand, is a completely different story...
