Guide to convert the GOUT DVD from 4:3 to 16:9 using freeware-tools
Time

After playing hunt the plugin, I have opened G-Force's latest script for ESB successfully.  Some people have talked about using it with DVD Rebuilder.  I assume this is so one can keep the menus and subtitles and so on.  How do I go about doing that?

This would certainly be easier than making my own menus.  I have DVD Rebuilder Pro, by the way.

I would appreciate any and all help here.  I am nearly there...  :-)

Video Resize/ Crop
Time

You will have to re-encode.  I would do this in Avisynth.  Unless you want a black border at the bottom of that section, you will have to resize, as your thread heading suggests.  While this might seem like simple enough thing to want to do, you might have to study more than you realize in order to do this, and you will have to think about whether or not what you want to do is worth it.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Well, then there was something wrong with how those DVDs were authored, or with the copies you downloaded, or with how you burnt the discs, or with your PS3.  The last is unlikely, in my opinion.  You should be able to play any GOUT sourced DVD, including dark_jedi's, without re-encoding.

What's the beef with Prowse?
Time

Easterhay said:   In fact, James always said that Dave was Darth Vader - the kind of humility that Prowse could learn a lot from.

I agree, but I have not heard Prowse say anything against Jones direct.

edited - I found this interview in which Prowse seems very fair to Jones.

http://www.galaxiki.org/feature/darthvader.html

On the other hand I can understand his resentment toward Lucas, if, as Prowse claims, Lucas promised that his voice would be used, and then used Jones anyway.  I am not sure if this is true or not, but I can believe it of Lucas.  Much as I appreciate Prowse performance though, his accent really would not have worked for Vader.

Does anyone have a link of Prowse criticising the prequels?

Well, you are likely to hear much more of it if you continue to post here.  If you are sick of people talking about their wish for the original versions in high quality, then a forum devoted to that aim is a bizarre place to go.

I agree.  Dalton always struck me as a harder Bond, closer to the way that Ian Fleming wrote the character.  I have never understood why so many seem to dislike Dalton in the role.

I actually really like Daniel Craig, although I agree his films are in some ways a departure from classic Bond.

I do not hate him.  I just wish he would release the original trilogy.

I know few people that act like that on this forum.  Most people are fine with people liking the special editions: they just prefer and want the original trilogy in good quality.

AVCHD to DVD
Time

I understand.  I just mentioned preparing before installation, because it important to do everything in the 30 days, as this is the only free (for a limited time) DVD maker to make high quality animated menus and, for that matter, reliably-authored DVDs.  Once the trial is over, you really have to buy a product to do what you want.

Install DGAVCDec and Avisynth.  Open your M2ts and save as Your Project.dga.

Avisynth script.  Paste this into notepad and save as: Whatever.avs

LoadPlugin("Your Directory Structure\DGAVCDecode.dll")
AVCSource("Your Directory Structure\Your Project.dga")
Spline36Resize(704,480)

Open this in HC Enc.  Set your bitrates and check 16:9.  Add 3:2 pulldown and encode.

For freeware and animated menus your best bet is DVD Lab Pro, which has a fully functional 30 day trial.  Make certain all your work is finished and you have your animated menu movie and everything ready before you install the trial, so you can finish your DVD authoring in the 30 days.

GOUT image stabilization - Released
Time

I only use Splinexx for downsizing.  (I find Spline16 faster than Spline36, but perhaps that is just my perception.)  I use Lanczos3 for upscaling.  Is that not what we are doing here?   I thought the recommendation was that it was that way round, but perhaps I am wrong.

Personally, I would crop eight pixels from the left and eight pixels from the right and author a 704x480 DVD, but I suppose it is just preference.  I have done this numerous times recently and the result has always played perfectly.  I have even come across commercial DVDs that are 704x480.
