Info: New colormatching script
Time

No apology is necessary.  I know the feeling!

The real reason I asked about the YUV version is to circumvent the colorspace conversions.  Going to RGB and back once is fine, but the multiple conversions still worry me a bit, which is why I wondered if the existing option to apply the difference between two clips to a third would be one solution.

It's a shame Avisynth is 8-bit only.  A 32-bit workflow would help here.

By the way, I don't think I've sent you any e-mails that you haven't replied to.  :-)

Hey, g-force.  Are you still planning to work on a YUV version?  It would be really useful.

By the way, does the option to determine the correction from two different sources and then apply it to a third get round the numerous colorspace conversions in the script?

You mentioned adding the option to balance the black and white levels to an updated version of the script.  Would it be possible to write a script that matches only black and white levels i.e. makes no color changes?  Could this be used to correct a source with a brightness-and-contrast problem by using another source or does it not work like that?

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' - bluray and colour timing changes (Released)

I see.  You mean a difference such as the one between the Final Cut and Director's Cut of Blade Runner.  I am not sure that I would be that exacting in my terminology, but I understand you now. :-)

And who is AF?

Sorry. By The AF, I meant our friend The Aluminum Falcon.  Excuse my lazy typing. :D

You're welcome guys, and sorry if I ruin some movie magic for some others.

Even knowing what's been changed doesn't really prevent me from enjoying my wowow cap.  With the original jeep shot back, I'm happy.  The changes are simply not on the level of the changes to SW (though I agree with you that there are undoubtedly others that have not been noticed).  And would any of us really spend time trying to add those few marks back to an HD image?

To me all three have the same timing, they differ yes, but I wouldn't call them completely different timings.

Obviously, this is subjective, but I can see a substantive difference between the Laser Pacific transfer and previous releases in terms of color.  It's not huge, but I would say it counts as a different timing.

The AF is the one to ask about the different transfers though.

I would really like to know what the source is for the JP comparisons.  Apart from the DNR on the 3D version, which is indeed bad, and the fact it seems very bright, I actually quite like the colors.

A film that I want with the original colors and the original aspect ratio is The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  I don't hate the color on the BD, but I prefer the way the film looks here in the screenshot at the bottom.  It's one of the few instances in which I prefer the version that looks more cyan.

On althor's MKV?  DGIndexNV shows the same thing.  The flash is on 130061.  I used the 720p stream, but it shouldn't make a difference.  My eyes aren't good enough to make out the left-to-right motion you mentioned though.

EDIT:  Is the GOUT the same?

Harmy said: Also, did you notice that the teal shift seems to be more pronounced in the 2D version? I would be fine with them making all these changes (except for the color) to the 3D version, because that is already altered by just being 3D but they should have left the 2D version well alone. I'm seriously a little pissed off right now :-/

2D vs 3D

There are slight differences in color.  Of course, if you prefer the look of the 3D, you could always demux the left-eye stream, add the mattes back and re-encode with x264.

You_Too said:  From what I've seen in screenshot comparisons here and there, the Japanese BD is the same as the HD DVD, but also has cleaner upper and lower edges of the picture. The HD DVD is bright and blurry at those edges.

I looked at the screenshot comparisons a few years ago and seem to remember that the Japanese BD is slightly stretched vertically (like some of the others).  I have the Japanese discs and the theatrical HD DVD, and the difference between the Japanese discs and all the other non-Skynet releases is minor.  It's down to individual impressions of small differences in grain and of the degree of edge enhancement and the like, and I'll take the HD DVD.  In my opinion, the Japanese discs aren't significantly better than the other non-Skynet releases (as some have made them out to be) and weren't worth the price I paid to import them.

Harmy's right that the (theatrical) HD DVD looks the best, but there's not much in it really.  Basically, all of the old BDs and HD DVDs look very similar.  Anything's better than the Skynet release.

Ok, if a Terminator 2 remaster is on the way, this is what I bet it will look like, old vs new:

I imagine it would look almost exactly like that.
