I hope he didn't deinterlace it...
Let's hope.
I'm not the best at spotting the side-effects of DNR, but the more aggressive clean-up doesn't look bad, whereas the unfiltered version looks really noisy. Of course, you could conceivably put both filtered and unfiltered versions on one disc.
I agree with Doctor M.
Space Kaijuu said:Are there any reliable avisynth scripts that will remove blended frames and restore the video to it's original framerate properly?
The plugins in question restore the original frame-rate in a "proper" way, but the blending can rarely if ever be removed perfectly. If fields, rather than just certain frames, show blends, perfection is impossible.
If I want a high-quality result, I use QTGMC() in concert with SRestore. (The former has a number of speed presets; the slower ones are glacially slow.) But you will find that some frames are handled better (and some worse) if you use a different deinterlacer e.g. a faster, lower-quality one such as Yadif. And sometimes older plugins, such as MRestore and Restore24, might handle certain frames better too.
For short clips, it is possible to apply different plugins and settings and weave back and forth between them, but this is not practical when dealing with longer videos. These days, I usually try a few different solutions, play with the settings, pick whatever looks best, and live with what it gives me. This sort of thing is not worth spending a great deal of time on.
It is.
So it might have had, but if that has happened, the fact that the result closely matches two other releases makes me curious.
Your LD screenshot looks like the 35th Anniversary BD, but the previously posted screenshot from Criterion's website looks like the Australian and German BDs.
Andrea, could you post some comparisons of the LD and the 35th Anniversary BD? The LD screenshot posted above looks similar but not the same, and I'm not convinced.
And where do the other BD releases fit in? Do they look like the '99 DVD? I muxed the PCM to the German BD, because I like the colors. There are comparisons here.
While I'd go the other way and answer no that question, I understand your decision. I'll look forward to your release. :)
The 2D BD has a nasty reddish look but no problems related to brightness or contrast that I'm aware of.
The 3D BD is certainly very bright. If even if sources do have contrast issues, can they not be fixed, or at least improved, by lowering the contrast?
This is a great idea for a project. I'd planned to use RGBMatch to give the colors of Molly's preservation to whichever of the BDs it worked best with, but never found the time. You might try to apply your color-matching technique to the BDs when you've finished capturing. I'd be interested in seeing the result.
NeverarGreat, is it your intention to start undoing SE changes or simply to color-correct? If it's the latter, I would question whether that shot is even worth touching. I know it wasn't colored the way it is in the SE originally, but if it can't be fully fixed without rotoscoping (or a similar technique) and you're ultimately releasing the 2004 SE anyway, I'm not sure it matters much.
That's my assessment of the situation too, Andrea. What I meant was I can't give you any constructive feedback about that scene. It is what it is.
The latest Tantive IV attempt looks good, but the Mos Eisley shot always seems to look awful, no matter what is done to do it. Improving it in one way seems to make it look worse in another.

The fact that you said it in the same sentence shows that you knew full well that you were wasting everybody's time by bumping an old thread to state the obvious. It also makes it unlikely that you are sincerely sorry.

What's the third?

Haha! I like the password. :D
That scene looks incredible. I've never seen Star Wars looking so good for color.
Just the upscale looks good. :-)
The links work fine for me, Andrea. I thought the noise reduction was a bit high too but was more interested in the upscaling, which looks good.
Interesting work, as usual! Things are never dull when Andrea's around. I would like to see your script applied to the Technidisc or JSC. By the way, are you going to post the script?
You bumped a thread from 2004 just to say that! :-(
That's true, but films, i.e. movies, on LD were originally 24fps, which is what was asked. Productions shot on video are not films, and only exceptionally rarely do films contain sections of true video material, which is not to say that it does not happen.
Synapse is working on Suspiria.
Good luck, Antcufaalb! I need to shed a few pounds too, so I know what it's like. Losing weight is certainly a challenge.
Oh, and congratulations! :)
