I’m all for 4K77 versions that preserve the colors of the print, green cast and all … but man, I really want a version that looks like that, too. That’d probably be the only version I ever actually watched anymore.
It also bears repeating that 4K77 waa graded by reel, not by shot, so any differences from one shot to another within the same reel is exactly what is on the print itself. So if shot 10 of reel 1 looks perfect, but shot 32 of the same reel is extremely green, that’s just how it is on the print.
For more consistent colors, you’ll have to wait for shot-by-shot regrades of 4K77, which Dr. Dre and at least one other person are working on. But they’ll take a while.

Well, the Tech print is going to have a green cast just because it’s a Tech print, and the 4K77 colors are meant to show what’s on the print, green cast and all.
Yep. In fact, IIRC Jedi is the only one of the OT for which the community already has scans of every frame (4K77 still has some missing frames filled in with 97SE and Blu-Ray frames), and it’s in significantly better condition than the SW and ESB prints that have been scanned (though the new ESB print Poita has acquired is in fantastic condition as well).

I haven’t seen it, but from what I understand, the problem with 13 Reasons Why is mostly due to the way it shows a character using suicide to get back at people who wronged her, which IMO sends a dangerous message to people who are victims of bullying and abuse that are contemplating suicide themselves.
Brit Floyd is also excellent.
The key is not to pretend to be the original band members while onstage. That’s always cringey as hell, and it’s exactly what Led Zeppelin 2 did.
Also you have to play the music well.
I watched Star Wars on acid once. It was cool, but 2001 is still the best acid/movie combination I’ve ever experienced. (Jurassic Park was a good one too, surprisingly.)

I guess it’s technically just Thom Yorke and a guitar, not Radiohead as a whole, but whatever.
I’ll have to listen to all of these today since this is one of the most beautiful songs ever made in my opinion.
There’s another demo with just Yorke and a piano that’s also excellent. This one might actually be Yorke’s best-ever vocal performance of the song, but the piano is kinda rough.
The new episode of The Expanse from this week, S03E07, “Delta-V.”
I adore the show, but still don’t like the current awkward structure of one book per 1.5 seasons. It made S02E05 and S03E06 feel like season finales because…well…they’re book endings. Putting them smack in the middle of the season is awkward structurally, because everything comes to a climax, then it all hits the brakes the next week.
In season 2 it wasn’t so bad, because they did some rewriting to compress the in-story time gap between books 1 and 2 so there is essentially no time gap between S02E05 and S02E06. But with season 3, they kind of did the opposite - they kept the time gap that exists between books, but on top of that they skipped over more things than the start of book 3 did. So characters who aren’t separated just yet at the start of book 3 are suddenly separated in S03E07, there’s a documentary crew roaming around one of the ships with little to no buildup or explanation, and the large shift in the political landscape of the system is only thinly sketched out in expositionary dialogue.
Now, that doesn’t mean it was a bad episode, but if you’re just watching the show without having read the books, it could feel rather jarring.
Having said that, this might actually be a good thing, because they’re just blazing through book 3 and that book is already more fast-paced and streamlined compared to the first two, so it seems likely that they’re actually going to end season 3 with the end of book 3, and not Midway through like they did with the first two books. Which means the structure of the show going forward might be “fixed” after the season ends.
TL;DR - the episode is an awkwardly-placed “season premiere” midway through a season which might throw people off, but it’s the start of the best book so far and it seems like episodes 7-13 are going to cover all of it, potentially fixing the pacing issue for season 4+.
Finally back home. Had a blast myself, but it appears that the heat this year combined with the ever-more-divided crowd (the festival has incorporated more and more EDM over the years, so the ratio of inexperienced young ravers and older hippies is closer to 50:50 than it ever has been) led to a lot of problems for others.
It was also weird because a lot of people I’m used to seeing weren’t there this year. But still, I enjoyed myself, even if it wasn’t my favorite year.

Many BD releases have gotten good video/audio reviews, like Jurassic Park, 007 films, Back to the Future etc. but on this forum people have had a different opinion as they have older releases and possibly even original audio tracks or film reels to make their point.
I’m just going to be completely honest with you, and some people here may get pissed off at me, but most people on here just generally aren’t the experts that they think they are, and that’s putting it extremely politely. Just because someone on this forum thinks that old laserdiscs or DVDs look better than a perfectly fine blu ray doesn’t mean that you should listen to them. The 007 films look great on blu ray, except for Goldeneye which wasn’t restored. But even Goldeneye still looks better than it did on DVD and VHS. I’m going to go out on a limb and wager that over 99% of blu ray releases are better than any previous home video presentation of the film in question. I think the OUT and the “accurate” (however the hell that’s even judged) Star Wars color obsession has gotten many people on this site to think that all modern home video is questionable and all old home video is inherently accurate when that’s not true at all.
I agree in most cases, but there are certainly some fan projects whose color grading I prefer for one reason or another, “accurate” or not. KK650’s FOTR EE, Dek’s Terminator, whoever’s Aliens I have (can’t recall right now), and one or two others. I’m still waiting on a Blade Runner Final Cut regrade that I like, too.
I do think regrading very modern films that had all-digital grading (like Marvel movies) is odd. I question the “it didn’t have a blanket tint in the theater when I saw it a year ago” mentality, and while I’ll never begrudge anyone thinking these regrades look more pleasing to them, I generally think these are a waste of time and effort. But again, if that’s what people want to do with their time, more power to them.
First few days have been a blast! Lettuce was great, I really enjoyed Tipper and EOTO, and moe. killed it in the late night Red Barn set last night.

Arrived safely at Summer Camp! The line to get in is crazy long already, and the gates don’t even open for another 7 hours or so.
I’ve managed to get a decent camping spot in the past when I’ve come on Friday after all the Thursday early birds have already set up shop, so I think I’m gonna skip waiting in the line for that long and go nap in my car.
I burned out around halfway through Children, but I’ve been told by a few people that God Emperor is the best of the series. One of these days I’ll get to it…

The 4K release is 10 bit color, but it’s not HDR.
Between when I found out I’m getting moved back to night shift and the day it happens (the 29th), and with the music festival I’m going to, I only had about 6 days available to hang out with the few friends I have. It’s down to 2 after tonight (which would be tomorrow night and Memorial Day).
Not one of my friends has made time to hang out with me. One of them said they would tonight and has blown me off ever since I got off work 3 hours ago. And that’s my upstairs fucking neighbor, who was home when I got back and then suddenly left 10 minutes later.
I really feel like no one I care about gives a fuck about me right now.
So plans were made tonight, and now she’s trying to change them to something else that she knows I won’t want to do.
Honestly, I think Tarantino-esque music is kind of inherent to the idea of the edit. I don’t think it would work without it.
