Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is the fourth film in a hexalogy.

But it’s often considered the third film in a trilogy-within-a-series, beginning with Wrath of Khan. It’s even sold this way in some box sets.

If we can say crap like “Last Crusade is the third movie in a trilogy,” we can isolate trilogies within longer series.

Hey, wait a second…how many movies are in the Star Wars series now…?

Like the Mad Max films, yes you can isolate trilogies within a longer series: the first three with Mel Gibson and then the fourth and upcoming film’s with Tom Hardy.

And for SW, this December it’ll be 9 film’s for the main series: the PT, the OT, and the ST. And that’s just for the “Skywalker Saga”…

My point is, you can’t call out Chyron for picking something that isn’t “part of a trilogy” without also calling out people who mention things like ROTJ, which hasn’t been part of a trilogy since 1999, or ROTS, which has technically never been part of a trilogy, or Last Crusade, or Lord of the Rings, and so on, since there are more than three films in their respective series.

Lucas was remixing the movie while it was already released in 1977 so I guess 1981 might be different. Was the mix redone in 1985 ? (with the C3PO line added on the DS ?)

There were three mixes in 1977 (35mm mono, 35mm stereo, and 70mm six-track). These were the only mixes used until the 1985 stereo remix. The 1981 ANH theatrical reissues all used the 1977 stereo mix (I think; it’s possible some used the mono mix, but as no 35mm mono was prepared for ESB, I doubt it).

The mix you’re thinking of is the 1985 remix.

Almost all of the 1981 ANH reissue prints were just 1977 prints with the opening logos, crawl, and flyover chopped off and replaced with the 1981 version.

Are you gonna do anything about that sad excuse for an opening?

Why would you want Grace to live? There’s no reason for it, and it would mess up the other episodes.

I don’t give a crap about it fitting with the other episodes, I do this stuff for fun, not to pander to what other people want for “go to” versions.

…wow.

There is a snowstorm happening where I live in Northwest Indiana

You too, Screams? Lake, Porter, or LaPorte County? (Guessing one of the first two since it doesn’t seem to be too bad here in LaPorte County.)

Porter .It pretty much let up now but Lake effect is supposed to happen later tonight . It’s unusual that we get more snow than Laporte though .Nice to meet a fellow region rat !

Yeah, I’m happy I have the weekend off (I work in Portage). Supposed to be rough again tomorrow.

Help: looking for... Recommended Star Wars Edits
Time

All of Hal 9000’s edits are top-notch. His prequels and TFA are my go-to’s.

Poppasketti’s TLJ Rekindled is far and away my favorite TLJ edit (Hal’s is good too if you don’t mind Space Leia and the Phasma fight; poppa used Hal’s edit as a starting point).

Adywan’s Revisited edits are a must-see for any SW fan remotely interested in fan edits.

What is your personal canon?
Time

At the moment:

 1. Episode I: Cloak of Deception (Hal edit)
 2. Episode II: The Approaching Storm (Hal edit)
 3. Clone Wars 2003: Vol. 1 & first ~10m of Vol. 2
 4. The Clone Wars 2008 (selected episodes)
 5. Episode III: Labyrinth of Evil (Hal edit)
 6. Solo
 7. Rebels
 8. Rogue One
 9. Episode IV: A New Hope (4K77)
 10. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Revisited or Hal’s edit depending on mood)
 11. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (4K83)
 12. Episode VII: The Force Awakens (Hal Restructured edit)
 13. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (poppasketti Rekindled edit)

Haven’t been able to sit through the first episode of Resistance yet so dunno if it’s canon to me or not. And don’t feel like going through all the books, comics, etc. right now.

The Last Jedi: Rekindled (Released)

You know, I’d never really thought about it much, but

It would actually feel like the First Order is invading various parts of the galaxy, like the crawl mentioned, if Maz is off somewhere else also fighting them. The last time we see Maz, her home and livelihood was destroyed by the First Order, and she even says that “we” must fight them. Plus, if she is going to be with the Resistance in IX, wouldn’t it make sense to have Maz already be fighting the First Order.

^ that may just have sold me on this being a necessary change.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

It boiled down to it being too much work for an effect that wasn’t entirely convincing all the time, in both cases (especially the icy breath one). Less that it would take too long to do and more that no matter how many different ways it was tried, it always looked at least slightly “off.”
