There’s also 4K83 DNR v1.1 that’s out now, which uses Skydude’s DNR settings and Sanjuro’s color grade, which is the best I’ve ever seen ROTJ look. But of course, that’s ROTJ…

I definitely need to track down this 1.1 release. I tested Sanjuro’s v1.4, and while amazing work, the grain kills it for me on my 4K set. I definitely need DNR for my situation.

I was talking about ROTJ (4K83). The original Star Wars/ANH (4K77) does not have a Sanjuro-graded DNR release.

I can’t seem to find a no DNR, 4k version of 1.1
Could someone PM me a link?

And this is why GOUT syncing the video is a futile effort IMO - the video will be constantly going through incremental updates and improvements, and trying to GOUT sync every iteration of 4K83 is going to feel like the myth of Sysyphus very quickly.

OR you’ll get people demanding that this particular version isn’t GOUT synced and why isn’t it when you did THIS version and it can’t be that hard but it’s over my head so I won’t do it myself but I need this one specific audio track to work with this one specific rendering of the video and so on and so on …

Better, I think, to start transitioning everything over to the new frame-complete standard now.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

This may be a thought for another thread (I’m new to the site), but I’d be curious to see someone rewrite the entire script from scratch without thought for any limitations in terms of editing something together, including (but not limited to) new characters, locations, and main plots. It would be interesting to even read a version of the prequel trilogy we should have gotten (the version we could have gotten if Lucas had done as many rewrites as, say, George RR Martin 😛).

While I feel vast improvements could be made to the prequels through editing, for some of us there is just so much that is wrong that it’s difficult to fathom a fan-edit that could truly fix it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see that vastly improved version and admire those making the effort to work with what they have.

There’s an entire subforum on this site dedicated to exactly this! Check it out: https://originaltrilogy.com/discussion/Script-Writing-and-Re-writing/id/21

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers

They do look nice, even if I’m not a huge fan of some of those posters.

One thing I will say - be careful bringing the blacks down too much like that. It looks nicer on a screen, where you can get the blacks nice and inky without crushing too much detail out, but that can tend to look … not as good when printed, in my experience. (I’m mainly speaking to your OT/ST covers and the textless TPM one, AOTC and ROTS and the rest look good.)

Of course, I haven’t printed yours, so you may have found the right balance and I’m just being overly cautious! (I’m also sure certain printers and/or printer paper will have better luck with deeper black levels than others.)

Sounded a lot more like a demand that someone else do all the work for you instead of a polite request to me.

Like I said, I know absolutely nothing about color correction. It’s too hard and too complicated. And I know, I’ve tried it. Now, because of these posts, I personally started to lose hope in ever doing an “Ultimate Edition” of the Star Wars saga.

Too hard and too complicated? Then start learning. That’s what all the rest of us have done. It’s daunting and there is a learning curve, sure, but giving up when you’ve barely tried and demanding other people do everything for you isn’t going to get you anywhere.

If you’re looking for non-Adobe software to learn on, DaVinci Resolve seems to be very popular recently. Sony Vegas has long been a top choice for fan editors, too.
