You really should - whether you prefer the OT music or not, the way the PT disc is edited is much more concise and flows better. Here's my theory:

JW originally did Star Wars. We all know that. It was a complete work. Then, unexpectedly, he was brought in to do a sequel. Now he has to expand on a work that was originally complete, with the prospect of doing one more after this. So he, to the best of his ability, makes ESB's score a continuation of SW's score, leaving it open enough to leave room to expand on for a probable third installment.

Then when he's brought in to do the PT, from the beginning he knows he'll be making 3 scores, and with this in mind, he makes the first score in such a way that it can be easily expanded upon, et cetera. Which is why the PT disc in this set flows better - the score was originally done with 3 in mind, not one.

Having now listened to the OT half, I'd have to say the following for constructive criticism:

1) Shorten up the OT disc. Definitely. ESPECIALLY Leia's theme, as that is hardly in the movies, or at least not as recognizable as other themes, yet it's about 4 minutes long (in other words, too long). Other things could be trimmed quite a bit, too. I agree with you in that since the PT soundtrack isn't as instantly recognizable, it's easier to play with and not get your head chopped of because, God forbid, you don't have the complete Imperial March! (Also, I'd shorten the March up a bit as well).

2) Make the PT disc end with less of a finality. While it works in the sense that its the end of a first act of a two-act play, if you listen to them all at once its as if it's over and then - whoops! - another hour and 20 minutes is left. I'd make it transition into Leia's Theme more, then split the discs. You could always have an artificial dissolve for people who would burn this onto 2 CDs rather than listen to it continuously on the ocmputer.

3) Smooth up some of the rougher transitions.

And that's about all I can think of for the time being. Other than that, excellent project!

Well, I got a chance to listen to the whole of the PT. I've got to say, once again, what an amazing job you've done. AOTC seems to have a lot of repetition, but didn't the original soundtrack? So that's not your fault. However, the transition to "Anakin's Dark Deeds" and later to "The Immolation Scene" (I know none of these are the names of your tracks, just going by the ROTS ST) have somewhat clunky transitions, but once the actual transition has been made you almost forget about that completely. I didn't have time to listen to much of the OT, but today I'll be doing that. Once again, excellent job!

Wow. This sounds f'n amazing. (By that I don't mean "sounds like it will be", I mean I've listened to it and it sounds amazing.) I've now decided that, while I definitely won't throw them out or anything, I will no longer be listening to my old soundtracks - this the best compilation of SW music I've ever heard, and while not everything's here - not everything needs to be, right? Once again, excellent job.

Favourite film out of original trilogy?

IMO, if the Ewoks hadn't been so rediculously "cute" and kiddie, and some of the stupid crap in Jabba's palace, I would think ROTJ is probably the best. However, due to that, it falls just short of ANH, which falls just short of ESB.

Since Sessler brought up Indy, for that I say Raiders, followed by Last Crusade, then Temple of Doom (not to say I don't like TOD, it's just not as good as the other two.)

Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack

Awesome soundtrack.

Now, though, I'm a bit worried that for the ULTRA SUPER EXTREME TO THE MAX DEFINITIVE EXTRA SPECIAL EDITION, Lucas will edit some of Battle of the Heroes into the Obi-Vader fight. I believe he's already said he wants to add Imperial March in somewhere, and now I have a feeling he'll try to fit BotH into ANH. Not cool in my book, either of them.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
This is merely for the benefit of those who don't know about this, as it seems some here don't:

When 2001 was made, it was completely scored by ... ahh ... lemme find it ... Alex North, and was all done when Kubrick randomly thought, "Hey, I played classical music on the set - I like that better" and went with classical music. North's unused score has since been released. This is probably what Trooperman is talking about.

Onto other things - I agree, and mentioned before, that lightning should not appear in any way, shape, or form until ROTJ. I could never figure out how to make it work until you mentioned it, which works perfectly (as in, getting Anakin out of the fight). I look forward to seeing this edit.

Idea on keeping the Yoda lightsaber duel, which is almost necessary in a way IMO.

Yoda walks in, Dooku turns to look. (I don't have the movie or a script handy now, so I don't know the lines, this is just from memory.)

YODA
Count Dooku.

Yoda ignites his lightsaber, Dooku turns to run. Cut to shot of Yoda jumping at him, and you hear Dooku's saber igniting - cut to abbreviated version of the battle, cutting completely "Fought well you have, my young Padawan" and "This is just the beginning" - when Yoda hops up on the wall, Sidious brings down the crane. He and Yoda lock sabers, Yoda looks to see the crane, turns off his lightsaber, Dooku runs, and Yoda saves the day.

Not sure if all that is possible, but better than cutting it all, IMO.

I also agree completely with the Changeling removal. That was idiotic setting that up and not using it.

Your edit has great potential, but I am wary of the Anakin dubbing...I'll have to see this for myself.

The "EditDroid" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Quick question: does it matter if the order of the files is different? For example, I was under the impression it was supposed to go AUDIO_TS, then VIDEO_TS, then JACKET_P. However, when I try to put JACKET_P into Nero, it forces the order to be AUDIO_TS, JACKET_P, VIDEO_TS, and I can't move JACKET_P anywhere. Does this matter? And how do I put the DVD-ROM content in? The whole "content" folder, or dump all the files in there, or what?

I burned it successfully before, but then I was impatient and said screw it, I want it now, and burned *only* the VIDEO_TS folder contents.

Clone Wars toon - title crawl?

Instead of having the black bars at the top and bottom like it should, it stretches the image to fill the screen. None of my other DVDs have done that, so I don't know what causes it. I noticed that the DVD case says "Copy Protection" and since none of my other DVDs have that on there, I thought that might be the reason.

I don't know. Any thoughts?

This isn't a problem with my aspect ratio settings in my editing program, I know I have that set right. It rips this way off the DVD itself so that when I capture it as an .avi file with VirtualDub it is being captured stretched out.

...you are describing the exact thing that happens with anamorphic DVDs. They don't have black bars encoded into the video, the video is stretched vertically to fill 720x480 and resized for 4:3 TVs through the DVD player. Actually, movies with aspect ratios greater than 1.78:1 *do* have black bars encoded, just because there are no TVs wider than 1.78:1. You must not have been ripping anamorphic discs before, or perhaps you were ripping 2.35:1, etc. discs and didn't notice the stretching somehow...

Clone Wars toon - title crawl?
Time
I made one long ago...what I'd do is cut the whole first chapter, and when it shows a starfield at the beginning of chapter 2, then all the ships coming in from hyperspace (on the new DVD anyway, probably to make the transition smoother) I'd add it...I say cut the first chapter because that is basically what the crawl is - Yoda's voiceover edited, basically.

CLONE WARS

The Clone Wars have spread
like fire across the galaxy.
More and more planets
succumb to the wicked Count
Dooku's will.

To act against these threats,
the duty falls upon the Jedi
to lead the newly formed Army
of the Republic.

As the heat of war grows, so
too grows the prowess of
ANAKIN SKYWALKER, one
most promising student of the
Force. . . .

Unfortunately I have no way of making a crawl, but that's my suggestion if you're combining both volumes as a two-hour movie.
