I'm glad most of my Catholic friends aren't as ridiculously ignorant as you, Hellhound (interesting name choice for a Catholic, by the way). It's people like you that give Catholics a bad rap, same as the Islamic extremist suicide bombers giving Muslims a bad rap.

I may be an atheist, but at least I have an open mind.

Two things.

1) Have you read them, or seen the movie?

2) This is the part that really bothers me: saying what you said is like me saying saying, as an atheist, I refuse to see any movies about religion. That's absolutely ridiculous. The Passion promotes Catholicism! BOYCOTT IT!!!!!

The Golden Compass
Time
I just finished rereading the book. From what I hear, I'll probably enjoy the movie (I plan on seeing it this weekend), even though the ending has been changed. Though I will admit the book ends on a big downer, I think that's better than having a cliffhanger that might never be resolved (greenlighting of "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass" depends upon the success of "Compass," so even though the true end to "Compass" will be in the beginning of "Knife," it may never be seen except in a potential Director's Cut of "Compass" if the first movie does poorly).

And the first book's most controversial elements IMO occur during the excised portion of the ending, and "Knife" & "Spyglass" are infinitely more controversial than the first. I hope the sequels are done justice and not watered-down, but I hope even more that they get made. I loved all three when I first read them, and I think the ultra-conservative Christians that are bashing the books/movies need to actually read them to see what they're saying beyond what everyone says about [SPOILER FOR BOOK 3 AHEAD--------------] killing God in the books. That's not exactly how it goes. People should judge for themselves. [--------END SPOILERS]

Off to finish a research paper and start rereading "The Subtle Knife."

The Return of Futurama
Time
So, has anyone else seen "Futurama: Bender's Big Score" yet? Just watched it today, let me tell you it was GREAT! It's not like the Family Guy movie, which is 3 episodes lazily tacked onto each other - it really is a cohesive whole. The last quarter is a bit of an exception with the flashbacks, but for the most part, anytime something "new" comes along that would be conducive to the beginning of a new episode, it feels perfectly natural. Aside from the obligatory "We're cancelled! Wait, no, we're back now," jokes at the beginning (which are done by 5 minutes in), nothing fell flat - I'm incredibly excited for the next 3 movies and the sixth season (since the fifth will be the 16 episodes from the 4 movies). Hopefully Futurama will live on properly and not go to shit like Family Guy - but for now, there's nothing to worry about.

Too bad about the watermark, but it's the only image I could find of it (interestingly enough from the same place I bought it at).

Those are all the ones that are actually mine, and they take up my half of the room (mostly). The back wall is still not completely full.

Roommate's:

He's got a bunch of other small ones, but I can't see them from my computer desk and there are already far too many images in this thread anyway, so yeah - those are all the major posters we have in our room right now. The wall's not completely full yet, so we've got a little while to go until we're done.

The Dark Knight (Batman Begins Returns Again)
Time
You're judging based on pics that were taken on-set, not based on actual shots from the film, so any cinematographic lighting choices etc are not accurately represented. I'd hold off until you see at least a trailer.

And I'm not worried - everyone I've talked to that's been on set or has seen shooting downtown when it was still here (Chicago) says not to worry, and those images aren't representative of the mood of the film at all.

In short, it'll be worth it. And if it turns out to be shit, well, I'll be the first to admit that, but I'm staying optimistic.

Serious ripping issues
Time
Alright, I finally bit the bullet and bought an LG external DVD writer ...

... and had exactly the same problem I had with my MacBook's internal drive.

This is starting to seriously piss me off ... does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem? Would a complete hard drive wipe/OS reinstall solve this? (If that's the case I'll wait till Leopard is released to do so)

Correct. And if you're as ridiculously anal about things like that as I am, you order the Canadian DVD from Amazon CA thus paying about 15 more dollars than you should, and you get all the books imported from either Canada or the UK.

And I still haven't been able to get home, so I haven't been able to check the deleted scenes for you. I have a copy with me, but it's a one-disc, single-layer, movie-only copy, which isn't much (any) help.

I seem to recall the "Neville Leglocked" scene made mention of it but I could be mistaken and am currently too lazy to pull out my disc and go through the scenes.

Region 1 = NTSC, correct? If it's R1, it WON'T be PAL format ... am I right?

I own it, but not with me, it's at home and I'm an hour away at college - I'll take a look next chance I get and let you know.

Idea & Info: Grindhouse (possible fan-edit?)
Time
These are the fan edits I'd like to see for GRINDHOUSE:

1) Theatrical version preservation:
Fake trailer opening
Theatrical cut of PLANET TERROR
No credits after PT
Fake trailers intermission
Theatrical cut of DEATH PROOF
Credits for PT and DP at end

2) Exended theatrical version:
Fake trailer opening
Extended cut of PLANET TERROR
(PT credits as an intermission? Since it *will* be substantially longer)
Fake trailers
Extended cut of DEATH PROOF
DP credits (or both if no intermission credits)

3) Fan-edit cut, as andy_k suggested.
