Forum rules number 3 and 4 (copy/pasted directly from the STICKY THREAD at the top of the page, emphasis in bold/italics/underline added by me):

3. No discussions regarding traditional "warez", such as bootlegs of current or recent theatrical releases, screeners, pre-retail/retail DVDs, and cracked computer software.

4. No direct links to media downloads of copyrighted materials (VOBs, WMV, QuickTime, torrent files, NZB files, ED2K links, etc.) with the exception of short clips to demonstrate quality or content. No direct links to pages containing such files.

You'd better get rid of this fast before a mod sees this, or you'll be in deep shit.

I think it wasn't addressed because (speaking for myself here) it seems kinda pointless. What exactly do you even mean? So you have the LD set. Great. If you want a DVD backup, there are many available - the GOUT and the myriad OOT bootlegs. Since I'm sure your LD player isn't an X0, many of these sets (and definitely the GOUT) will look better in comparison anyway.

Do you mean that you want to ask if you could get your set transferred with the X0 player? My bet is no - the X0 team borrowed someone else's X0 if I'm not mistaken, and no longer have access to it. Besides, why would your set be any different than the set(s) the X0 team was using? Wouldn't it be easier to just wait for the X0 to get released? That would CERTAINLY look better than your set.

The raw X0 caps looked better than any LD cap I've ever seen. So its not pointless. Maybe its pointless to you, but not to the rest of us. Even a raw X0 cap would be the ultimate in persevering our LD copies.

First, I'd like to say that I think I misinterpreted his post. I thought he was asking if he could send HIS set out to be transferred, but after reading it again I think I was just half-asleep.

Second, I agree - I don't think, and have never thought, the X0 project to be pointless. I'm the one who's been adamantly against the locking of this topic, for Christ's sake. If I thought it was pointless, I'd be all for locking the thread!

What I was saying was that it would be pointless for him to have his set transferred with an X0 player if the X0 project eventually does get released, since the X0 project basically already did that and more. My point was, why bother transferring a set that's already been transferred with the X0? And if you just wanted a copy to watch in place of the LD set that's of equal or greater quality, there are such sets available, therefore I felt his request to be pointless.

Again, afer rereading it I think I misinterpreted his request - it seems that he just wants the raw captures released, which I wholeheartedly support. In that regard, it seems that MeBe is considering that very thing anyway.

In other words, my post was a misunderstanding, I don't think the X0 is pointless by any means, and I apologize if my post made it seem like I felt that way. If there's one thing I've been looking forward to for the past 3 and a half years, it's been this project. The day the X0 project captures are restored and released is the day I'll finally be 100% happy as a "Star Wars" fan - I'll have a pristine theatrical preservation and Adywan's Revisited edits side-by-side. What more could I want?

I entirely forgot about "Superman: Redeemed" - that one is technically flawless, but has some story logic gaps that prevented me from enjoying it fully. The same editor (was it ADM?) also did a "Superman II" cut, as did Booshman and a few others - as far as I'm concerned, if one little bit of the Booshman cut was worked into ADM's cut (the "de-powering" scene that combines elements from Donner/Lester cuts and re-color-times a couple of elements), *that* would be the perfect Superman II. I've since lost my copy of Booshman's edit, unfortunately.

I can see not adding Sith eyes to Luke, but we still need to see just HOW angry he is and show both small and large pieces of machinery ripped from the walls and being hurled into Vader as Luke simultaneously pounds away at him with his lightsaber. To have Luke do to Vader what Vader did to him at Bespin but exponentially would show just how powerful Luke really was as well as explain how EMPIRE Vader could be defeated so quickly.

I absolutely HATE this idea. I think it's just overkill, and I don't see what's wrong with the fight as is (and I'm glad you're not suggesting Sith eyes, which I think were one of the worst PT ideas ever).

And I don't have a problem with dropping us into Jabba's palace without "introductions" - that's how the beginning of ANH played out, really. We were dropped into the middle of a situation and had to figure out what the fuck was going on pretty fast - same thing here.

Plus, it's not like we don't already know who these characters are. This isn't the time to be giving people "good introductions" or anything - Luke's already had his introduction, it was in ANH. Let his "robed" intro as he enters Jabba's palace be his first introduction as a true Jedi.

Oh, and to be clear, I don't want to start the movie with the Dagobah scene - that would, indeed, be boring. Start with Vader/Jerjerrod, then Boussh, THEN Dagobah minus Ben, then Leia rescuing Han, Han/Chewie, then droids go to Jabba's but get captured, then Luke arrives.

I'm all for cutting Ben's conversation out entirely. I do, however, think Luke needs to be on Dagobah before he's on Tatooine - we need to feel like he's been training there for a long period of time since "Empire" ended. As it is, it feels like he got a couple weeks of training, left like an idiot, then decided he was a Jedi before even seeing Yoda again. It just doesn't feel like he's had enough time to become a Jedi.

And I don't have a problem with introducing Jabba on the Lapti Nek (which SHOULD be replaced with something!)/Boussh sequence. It works well as an introduction in my opinion, and sets a much more sinister tone for the film and for Jabba's lair.

My thinking behind that configuration is that Yoda has just confirmed to Luke that Vader is his father, so enter Vader, later Ben says his feelings could be used by another, so enter the other.

But I can see how having Boussh turn up after Yoda's mention of the other would create a bit of foreshadowing before Ben confirms it but I'm finding it hard to square without the droids being in place.

I'm also thinking that Yoda shouldn't get a chance to mention that the other is a Skywalker before dying just to keep the surprise for a bit later so now he dies saying "There is..another" rather than "There is...another Skywalker".

Playing with the Boba Fett leaves to sell the Death Star location idea and the other other Death Star, the Executor attacking the Death Star 3 instead of bumping into the Death Star 2 are all radical ideas which are worth a try.

But it's important to get the basic story worked out in the right order before adding the big stuff.

I can see Chainsaw's point of view too so as I said before playing around with the order is the only way to be sure.

My only hangup with starting with the Dagobah scene is that it's a LOT of boring exposition right at the beginning of the film. There's nothing to really "hook" you, whereas putting the Vader scene at the beginning is much more interesting. And if you put the Boussh scene first, then Luke, then Vader ... I don't know, but something about that order just feels wrong to me.

I like the idea of getting rid of Yoda's "S..ky...wal...k...e.......r......" line, and I think the Boba Fett thing is interesting as well if it can be done properly. I'm still not sold on the two Death Stars thing, but I think it could work if done carefully.

I like the idea of starting on Tatooine and just deleting the opening Death Star scene;

That was one of the few decent parts in this otherwise incipid mess of a film. It's the last time Vader still had that distinguishable vibe that made him so popular as a villain in ANH and ESB.

Once I have the new computer up and running I will be attempting variations on the Fan-O-Matic.

My instincts tell me that Dagobah (ending with Yoda's death) followed by Vader arriving at the Death Star 2 on the Executor with a redubbed Moff Jejerrod (he seems a bit too camp for a commandant) followed by Luke in Ben's Hut meeting Ben's ghost, followed by the Emperor arriving, followed by Droids on their way to Jabba is more the way to go.

But I won't be sure until I've tried out other combinations.

I disagree - start with the Vader/Jerjerrod scene, then go to Boussh/Leia/Chewie, then Dagobah, then freeing Han from carbonite, then Luke arriving on Tatooine/Ben's hut/Ben's ghost, then the droids go but get captured before they can deliver the message, finally Luke arrives and the rest pretty much plays out as normal. I don't know what to think about the Emperor arrival - it could work well after Ben's ghost scene, but I like the idea of not seeing any more of the Empire until Jabba's is all cleared up and they're on their way to the fleet.

It was mentioned before about how the Ewoks could be made to be more menacing, so I made a quick little video of the "Dead Animal On A Stick" scene, with a StormTrooper helmet inserted. I know it's crude, but I only did it to see how it would look.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwOjAgaxE10

Don't hold back...be critical, and abusive...I can take it..... ;)

Definitely rough, but I like it a lot. If it's edited exactly like that, with slightly more sinister music, and a convincing stormptrooper head, that would improve the scene tremendously.

Info: The Star Wars Fan Edit Great Debate Thread.
Time

It depends. If I feel a film I like has flaws, and there's a fan edit that fixes those flaws, that's great. (AI: Super-Toys Last All Summer Long is a great example). If I hate a film, I'll be less inclined to see a fan edit of it unless it radically changes things (Matrix: Dezionied), or if it's gotten a lot of good feedback (like T3: The Coming Storm).

The thing is, I've found very few fan edits that I consider to be good enough to watch as more than just a curiosity (the two mentioned above and Ady's ANH:R are really the only ones). Most fan edits I see have too many technical hangups - basically, if you want it to be better than the original movie, it better not have mistakes a real movie wouldn't have (hard audio cuts and badly chopped-up dialogue are the major killers here) - such flaws have often prevented me from really liking an edit I enjoyed on a conceptual level. Dezionized has a couple such flaws, but the overall result is so good I didn't mind it as much (for that, it's mainly truncated scenes that are still necessary from a plot standpoint).

The other thing is that there are a lot of films I see that I feel could be fixed with some good fan editing, but I have yet to see such edits materialize (X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3, The Incredible Hulk [with Ed Norton], Red Dragon ... ), or if there are such edits I don't feel that they do enough.

Basically, I like the concept, but the goal has to be a product that feels like it wasn't edited at all, like this could be the version that was seen in theaters. Most edits have flaws in them that many people forgive because "it's a fan edit," but to me these flaws just scream "HEY! YOU'RE WATCHING A FAN EDIT, NOT THE REAL THING!" This is why I haven't released any fan edits - none of the ones I've finished are polished enough in my opinion to release.

In other words, I don't care how much you take out or put in or rearrange or reshoot or whatever, as long as it doesn't feel like somone with too much time on their hands cut up a real movie and rearranged it - it has to feel like a real movie.

The Many Wipes Of Star Wars.
Time

ROTS has the WORST wipes of ANY movie I've ever seen. It bugged me when I was 16 and in high school, and it bugs me even more now that I'm 20 and in film school. The OT had the right balance, but ROTS feels like it has to use a different wipe every time, and most of them are ridiculous. (The checkerboard wipe? Really?) I haven't seen AOTC in ages, and I don't think the wipes in TPM were that bad IIRC. But ROTS ... *shudders*

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

I'm very interested in these edits, they have a lot of good ideas. However, I don't like the idea of Dooku having a purple lightsaber. Not because I think it needs to be red, I just hate purple lightsabers! If it was up to me, I'd have rotoscoped Windu's to blue and Dooku's to green. I understand that you wanted to have a different lightsaber color for the duels, but the Obi-Wan/Vader duel works fine with the same lightsaber color.

It's not a deal-breaker, it's just that the purple lightsaber was one of the little things about the PT that irked me so much.

I do like, however, that you only have Yoda use his lightsaber once (the Order 66 scene), and the way he uses it in that scene is perfect - short, efficient, and not flashy at all. Perfect. Well done on that.

I think the official EU (read: bullshit ass-covering) explanation is that the warranty on Artoo's jets had expired by the time of the OT, forcing his CPU to lock them off, or something stupid like that.

I think they should be removed from the PT, not added to the OT. I thought they were ridiculous and, frankly, stupid.

Star Wars DVD Covers

Hold off on downloading that cover - I've just come across a MUCH higher-res version of the Han Solo picture for the back. It'll be updated soon.

Sidenote: If anyone needs a high-res of said image, let me know - the one I've just run across is 2362x1598 at 72 dpi.

I'm going to erase the link from my last post.

--EDIT--

Turns out it's not the exact same image, but it's MUCH higher-res than the one I *was* using, and it's close enough for government work IMO.

Ady uses Vegas. I prefer either Avid or Premiere Pro, and Final Cut is also popular, though I hate it (you have to render EVERYTHING). I've never been a big Vegas fan myself, but then again I don't use Windows anymore, either, so I haven't worked with it in a very, very long time.

That's just EU reasoning to explain something that shouldn't have needed explaining, because IT DOESN'T make sense for the first to take 20 years and the second to take 3. Yeah, the second would go by much more quickly than the first, but not THAT much more. At most, I'd say 8 years for the first and 3 for the second makes sense, and that's stretching it. IMO 5 for DS1 and 3 for DS2 makes the most sense.
