Mmm, I had a look around my hd, and I have these audios (wav except the in-theater ones):
DC48_DVD = Star Wars - 1993 DC/Faces Mix
DS48_RL = Star Wars - 1977 35mm Dolby Stereo Mix (reference level)
Star Wars 70mm In-Theater Audio Recording (BrianM)
Star Wars 70mm In-Theater Audio Recording (morgands1)
Belbucus' 70mm vs. '93 remix comparison
85remix - "Star Wars 1985 LD Mix"
Star Wars Mono Soundmix FLAC (PAL ITV broadcast)
ESB_93 = The Empire Strikes Back - 1993 DC/Faces Mix
ROTJ_93 = Return Of The Jedi - 1993 DC/Faces Mix
Interesting - was there a DVD-9 made of the Lucasfilm Pwnage Edition, and are Empire and Jedi available as well?
And if you could up the reference-level 1977 stereo and 85 remix stereo to Rapidshare, that would be absolutely fantastic.
And hairy_hen, I just sent you a PM with the RapidShare links for the mono mix (uncompressed WAV from the mono mix restoration project). Anyone else that's interested, let me know.
No idea. Wasn't that an NTSC conversion of a PAL LD transfer?
I have a request, if anyone here has them:
I'm looking for the 1977 theatrical stereo for "Star Wars" and the 1980 theatrical stereo for "Empire."
They are NOT the same as the 1985 or 1993 remixes, and yes, they were available on laserdisc. I know someone has posted at least the "Star Wars" theatrical stereo at one point. (The main difference for ESB is a snowspeeder crash sound effect missing in the 1993 remix - I think the 1985 ESB mix is the same as the 1980 theatrical, but I'm not sure.)
The 1985 remix would be cool as well, but I'm not as concerned about that mix.
I also have the 1977 theatrical mono mix for "Star Wars" if anyone's interested.
Glad to hear you're doing something with the "ghost glow" effect. And people need to remember that once you've said something is final, it's final and they should stop whining about it. If they don't like it, they can make their own.
And ahh! The new avatar threw me off - now how will I quickly scan through the thread for your posts? :-P I do like it, though.
I wasn't a fan of the Outrider simply because "Shadows of the Empire" sucks. It's unnecessary, and adds a lot of complicated bullshit that makes no sense to a period between films that should have been pretty straightforward.
For example, did we *really* need an explanation for why Chewie's hair looked a little different? Did we really need a Han Solo clone, just so we could have Han Solo in the book by proxy?
Then there was Xizor ... ugh ... I could go on and on ...
And I do hate Boba in ROTJ, simply because he serves no purpose whatsoever. Piett in ROTJ was awesome, because he did what he was supposed to do, and it didnt contradict his ESB character. I can't say the same for Fett. He does nothing but stand around and get killed.
He does still image mock-ups to illustrate ideas, and he's VERY good at it. I believe some of his mock-ups have inspired aspects of Ady's 'Revisited' projects, but I'm not sure. I'm fairly certain he isn't directly involved, though.
I never liked it just because when I first saw the SE it just seemed like it was thrown in there as an afterthought. Plus it just looks ... strange ... it doesn't really fit with the Cloud City aesthetic, I guess. I dunno.
And just because it's a McQuarrie design doesn't mean it's good - there are plenty of McQuarrie designs that I'm glad were left out of the movies.
I thought so. That's fantastic to hear - I wish I still had those sets now.
That's very, very hard to do without knowing exactly what your workflow is. Not to mention that if you were working in Avid, I could easily help you, but if you were using Vegas I wouldn't even know where to begin. It depends on a lot of different variables.
The more we know about what codecs you used in the editing process, etc., the better we can help.
Oh, and something I just thought of - one thing that almost always happens to me in Avid if I'm using multiple video tracks, is that I forget to have them all active. In Avid, if you have, say, V1 (video track 1) selected, but V4 isn't, then it will only render out V1, ignoring V2, V3, and V4. I have to have the V4 monitor on for all of them to render.
Make sure everything is selected before you render, just in case.
Looks great - I can't wait!
I believe the EditDroid set had an isolated music track, so if you can find that you can probably just take that cue from the isolated score track.
My point is consistency. Go one way or the other - touch-screens and holograms are fine as long as you don't go from that to a Boeing 737 cockpit in the same series. It just doesn't make sense. We need consistency between the two, and I think most people here prefer the look of the OT controls to the PT. To paraphrase Ady himself, "The PT should be changed to match the OT, not the other way around."
--edit--
Realized that you knew what I was talking about the whole time. Disregard.
Jedi Dark Knight said:Just as a side note just because something has buttons and switches doesn't mean it's more functional, but rather it's less sophisticated. A lot of it looks like elements from today's society? back in the seventies everything looked like the Falcon: switched and buttons, technology has advanced to the point you don't have to have a dashboard with fixed buttons, but rather it can reconfigure to the situation in a nice touchscreen. You put the example of the Jedi fighter and that ship still has a lot of screens.
Let's also not forget that these films don't take place in our future. And sometimes using something from our own time helps lend things a bit more credibility, "grounding" it in our experiences if you will. Sure, the PT stuff looks kinda cool, but it doesn't feel like it "works" IMO. While the OT stuff looks "dated" to us, it feels like I could walk up to it and figure out how to fly the Falcon if I wanted to - it could "work."
I know that's not the most articulate argument, but that's the whay I see it.
Well, since I was the one that brought it up in the ESB:R thread, it's probably fairly clear that I don't like it.
It just seemed unnecessary to me, and on top of that it looks like a freaking miniature lightsaber (it instantly reminded me of something I saw where someone used a tiny lightsaber to peel potatoes). And it just kind of appears as the camera zooms in on it.
It would have been better, IMO, to erase the syringe markings (which Ady did), and add something that looks almost acidic inside the syringe (like in T2, the drano or whatever it was into Silberman's neck, but more "alien" looking).
I do want to make it clear, though, that the torture droid "lightsaber" is one of only two things I dislike about ANH:R (the other being the fake slo-mo when Ben dies) - everything else about it is pretty damn perfect. I'm indifferent about the Ben's hut scene and the added music, and the SE-added "searching around the escape pod" shots bug me but not too terribly badly. Other than that, it's all perfect.
ladyferry said:Please add it? I beg of you! its a stunning idea and we all love it...
Speak for yourself. I, for one, think it's completely pointless, and if it were in ESB:R I would begrudgingly accept it in the same way I begrudgingly accept the torture droid lightsaber in ANH:R.
So in other words, what I'm saying is thank you for not adding it, Ady. :-)
AxiaEuxine said:Kurtyboy said:My only complaint is that the Vader helmet is the horrible symetrical ROTS version. The ESB Vader helmet is FAR superior :)
Let me guess this straight, you'd rather have a lopsided helmet with mistakes in it becuase they couldn't make a symetrical one in the beforetime than one that was constructed with superior techniques and doesnt look like it was made in a garage??
Just because the new one was made with "superior techniques" doesn't mean it's better. I happen to think it looks like shit, and agree that the ESB helmet was the best in all 4 films that feature Vader. SW's looks a little strange to me somehow (it feels a little small in some scenes), and ROTJ's was *too* shiny and reflective. But ESB had a perfect balance of all of those.
ROTS's looks, as someone else mentioned, like it was made by a fan for a Halloween costume.
I highly doubt he used your scenes exactly - he probably made his own version(s) *based* on yours. Regardless of how rough yours was, you don't want credit for someone using (and possibly improving on) your ideas?
Haha yeah, the covers were pretty sweet as well. I like how you used a standard and an alternative poster for different variations on the front - that was a really good idea. And I really like the way you extended the ESB logo to fit on the spine. I'd tried that for a cover once and it never turned out quite right, but yours looks ... well ... like it should :-P
I don't think putting Jabba in is necessary at all.
1) His scene becomes redundant with the lines of dialogue moved from there to Greedo's scene
2) Jabba comes across as a pushover who isn't dangerous in the slightest
3) The tail ... oh Christ the tail ...
Well, Ady's real name is on the credits for ANH:R already ...
That is fantastic! Will you be able to upload that to Demonoid or similar?
I finally finished listening to all of these. What I have to say, cannot be said any other way, so I want to take a moment to apologize in advance for the level of profanity. But it needs to be said.
.... HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! That was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I've NEVER heard ROTJ sound like that, and for the first time ever IT FUCKING ROCKS!!! SW sounded perfect, ESB sounded perfect, ROTJ sounded perfect ... IT'S ALL FUCKING PERFECT!!!
I don't know how you did it with what you had to work with, but my God man, I'm in awe.
And thank you for not including Jedi Rocks, but I kinda wish you would have put the SE ending song as a bonus track (but I'm SO glad you left "Yub Nub" in the album proper!!!) - but since I like to pretend the SEs never happened, I guess there's nothing wrong with that.
Thank you for these fantastic releases - they are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, THE definitive "Star Wars" soundtracks. Period. No matter what.
Thank you!
I've always though it to be "Aurebesh."
