That's more EU bullshit to "explain" why there's a droid that looks like IG-88 in the room where Chewie finds Threepio in pieces. It's something that didn't need explaining, since it wasn't even the same color (come on, do you really think there's only one droid that looks like IG-88), but that's the EU for ya.

I'm not implying that the droid should be recolored to look identical to IG-88... just more metallic. To me, the way it looks now, it looks like it will snap in half if it's knocked over by the wind!

I wasn't responding to your post - in fact, I didn't even know you had one dealing with that subject! In fact, I agree, it could use a bit of a touch-up ...

Oh, I'm not saying that all slow-mo is bad, nor am I planning on getting rid of all of it. There are just certain parts in the film where I don't think it works (Comedian jumping off the Owlship, for one) - on the other hand, I think the slow-mo in the Hollis Mason murder scene is perfect. In fact, I won't be altering that scene in any way, shape, or form - it's brilliant, and I'm still furious that it was cut from the theatrical release (damn IMAX and its time limits ... )

Sadly, the squid ending is impossible to recreate. It would not only require new footage of the squid itself, but an entirely new monologue by Viedt on top of it.

I'd like to try to recreate the original ending to the child molester scene, but if it can't be pulled off in a way that screams "THIS IS A FAN EDIT!" then I'll be leaving it as is.

And most of the slow motion that remains will be sped up to at least not be so ridiculously slow (it might be difficult to get some of it to look convincing at "normal speed" without knowing what framerate it was shot at).

And thanks for the tips on erasing Dan from that scene - that will help quite a bit.

I know, but that isn't the case before and after the text itself fades in.

I've just checked, and the Dollar Bill shot may be usable (but not much of it), and the first half or so of both the Mothman and Silhouette shots are definitely usable.

And Jono11, you're right that those flashbacks aren't in the novel - while I'm trying to bring this closer to the novel on the one hand, I also recognize the need to change things in order to make the film work as a standalone film. I think that using these flashbacks might help clear up some confusion in the minds of viewers as to who the hell Rorschach is talking about in his narration there.

On the other hand, I don't want to beat the audience over the head with it (which is something I thought Snyder's credits sequence did), so if it feels out of place, I won't use them.

I just think it goes on for too long, and there are a few aspects of it that I think go directly against the established history of the Watchmen universe, such as the picture of the "Watchmen" (Crimebusters in the GN) being taken when they never actually formed a group, Dr. M on the moon (a "WTF?" moment for me), the Comedian killing Kennedy (hinted at in the GN, but you're never sure if the Comedian is just joking or telling the truth), and the prominent featuring of the lesbian Minuteman (Minutewoman?) whose identity and purpose are never made clear throughout the rest of the film ...

I may trim it down (the credits are 6 minutes and the real song is 3 minutes!) and keep it, but it's most likely going to go.

Wow, sorry to hear about your back, Ady - I've got scoliosis myself, so I know back-related health problems are no picnic, and that seems doubly so in your case. Here's hoping you feel better soon!

And if you need to take time off of ESB:R for it, I don't think any one of us (besides Sevb32, perhaps) will fault you for it. Your health is far more important than Star Wars.

Great news! Now to wait for a torrent...

Here we go again.

Not trying to be a smart ass or anything(well maybe I am)but why not get it the same way we all are and have it way sooner?

Newsgroups = $$$

Torrent = free

Precisely. :-) I don't mind waiting though, it's just TPM, which I haven't watched in years anyway.

Star Wars: The Trilogy **PROJECT STALLED DUE TO HARD DRIVE FAILURE**
Time

I'll look into it. It might actually help deal with the missing 40 frames or so (don't remember the exact number) - I could move the "Someone was in the pod ... " line earlier, and make a little room for the radio drama line. No promises on this, though - but I will look into it. (I knew there was a reason I downloaded the radio dramas ... )

By the way, does anyone know in which episode of the radio drama this line occurs in? It'd make finding it a bit easier.

Star Wars: The Trilogy **PROJECT STALLED DUE TO HARD DRIVE FAILURE**

Small update:

The Purist audio worked out wonderfully - it actually blended in much more smoothly and easily than any other Revisited-to-mono-mix blending I've had to deal with on this whole project. I'm very, very happy with it now.

DJ's GOUT video in the "dead end" sequence (replacing the random-ass hangar of the SE) works quite well as well, and with no color correction.

Now the tricky stuff - I've tried adding in the one Mos Eisley shot that was cut from the SE in place of the super-wide SE shot that included two rontos, but the GOUT quality - even DJ's cleaned up GOUT - is just too much of a drop, so I think the SE shot is staying (unfortunately).

I've also used DJ's GOUT to replace the alley search SE shot with the stupid floating droid. This works better, but I'm still having trouble with the color correction - I'm nowhere near as good at that as Adywan is, despite Avid's very powerful color correction tools.

Other than that, there's nothing much to report. I'm going to get to work on restoring the pre-SE version of the desert search ("Look, sir - droids!") next, but I imagine it's going to be quite difficult and labor-intensive to accomplish. Fun stuff.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

I watched ROTJ yesterday (mainly to get ideas for how I want to edit it), and I must say, it looks fucking fantastic. I'm actually 99% sure I'm going to toss out my newly-created Lucasfilm and "A long time ago ... " title cards in favor of the ones on your GOUT set for my Trilogy project, since they look ... well ... pretty much perfect. And no telecine judder!

I just wish it were easier to get rid of the blue glow that ROTJ has ...

The CG Yoda TPM replacement was revealed in a documentary on the Episode III DVD, if I'm not mistaken, and they actually showed a clip of it - I don't own ROTS, though, so I can't post it. Someone posted a still frame of the new CG Yoda, though, but damned if I remember where - it does look infinitely better than that awful puppet, though.

He's restoring the theatrical cut using a DVD that Dark_Jedi had of a TV broadcast of the theatrical cut. So yeah, he's editing out the scenes added for the DVD. And color correcting. It's going to be a DVD-only project, though - his Episode I AVCHD is the DVD cut.

STAR WARS Movies Animated
Time

You know, I used to hate anime kind of on principle, but lately I've been enjoying the hell out of Cowboy Bebop (I'm watching the 6th episode right now, actually), and I recently saw Akira, which was also fantastic - I wouldn't mind either's style of animation for this project. But I'd try to avoid general anime cliches (not that I can think of any off the top of my head, since, well, I don't really watch much/any anime), and try to give it a Star Wars feel.
