STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

To add to your post, if you have a suggestion that you KNOW Adywan will not accept, don't post it in this thread. There is a separate thread for ESB and ROTJ suggestions to fan editors in general, that is not an Adywan-specific thread. And there is yet another thread for ANH suggestions that is also not an Adywan-specific thread (this goes double for ANH, as Ady will not be doing any more revisions to ANH:R).

The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)
Time

I've seen both ocpmovie's "Classic Edition" and Adywan's 1980 theatrical reconstruction.

There's absolutely no contest. In every instance where I knew GOUT footage had to be used, I simply could not tell. And I was looking for it.

There are a couple little things that weren't changed back, but nothing significant at all.

The only major thing I remember Ady leaving be was the 2004 "fix" to Han's shirt in the "I love you"/"I know" sequence. Then, of course, some slightly recomposited effects were left be (like Luke falling down the shaft in Bespin).

As far as audio, everything is as it was in 1980. The snowspeeder crash sound effect is there, too!

And yes, I still have Ady's Phantom Menace theatrical reconstruction. The difference in the few shots taken from the laserdisc is noticeable, but the shots are so short it doesn't really matter. And I still haven't gotten a chance to listen to the proper 5.1 track (taken from the laserdisc), so I don't know how that sounds. (I don't have this on DVD any longer, though, I just have it as an MKV file, so I can't help anyone get hold of that disc, sorry.)

James Cameron uses DVNR on Aliens Blu Ray transfer.
Time

Honestly, for a huge set like the Alien Anthology, it'd be cheaper for them to have one master, and distribute it to all regions. They don't have to worry about PAL/NTSC differences, either, and a LOT of Blu-Rays are region-free (I've seen infinitely more region-free BRs than DVDs).

I would be incredibly surprised if the US Blu-Rays look any different from the European Blu-Rays.

I doubt that's the case. If it were distributed by a different company in Europe vs America, I could see it, but I'm pretty sure this is going to be the same release everywhere. Probably region free.

At least we know Cameron didn't go overboard on the DVNR in the restoration process - and if the US Blu-Ray does pull a Pan's Labyrinth, it won't be because of him, it'll be because of the distributor.

Info: "Let the Right One In" Theatrical Subtitles (NTSC)
Time

-EDITED-

This was originally a request for the theatrical subtitles for Let the Right One In. I’ve since found a nice version of the theatrical subtitles with some slight alterations to make it flow a little better (for instance, in this version it’s made clear that Mr. Avila speaks in broken Swedish, thus making it clear that his subtitles aren’t a hack job, that’s just how he talks).

So, if anyone else needs good subtitles for Let the Right One In to replace the bad DVD subtitles, I have an SRT file I can give you. Note that it’s for the NTSC R1 DVD, not PAL.

The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)
Time

Lapti Nek would pose a huge problem, I know that. I don't know how hard the Sarlacc scene would be.

Star Wars would be very difficult indeed - you'd need to deal with Mos Eisley, and the dewback scene (which I've attempted, and that one's a lot harder than it seems like it would be), and the detention block matte painting, and ...

Yeah, there's a lot to worry about in Star WarsJedi would certainly be easier, but not without its difficulties.

But since this project was done for Empire's 30th anniversary, maybe Adywan will surprise us all in 2013 ...

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

If I may be so bold, I don't think the THX 1138 "Director's Cut" is nearly as offensive as the Star Wars and Jedi SE's. It's more on par with the 1997 SE of Empire, which never bothered me all that much. My only major problem with the THX DC is the CG monkey things at the end.

However, I still prefer the pre-DC cut, myself. I've never seen the true "theatrical" cut, though. Has anyone here seen it?

Info Wanted: Newbie questions - preservation remastered from the original theatrical cuts?
Time

I definitely HIGHLY recommend Adywan's Empire Strikes Back theatrical reconstruction.

These are the only differences from the 1980 theatrical version still present (that I remember from watching it):

- Re-composited snowspeeders (not CG, just the original elements better integrated in some instances, from the 1997 SE)
- Han's "vest" shadow "fix" (in the carbon freezing scene, from the 2004 SE)
- Re-composited falling Luke (so he's not transparent; from the 2004 SE I think)
- A couple imperfect lightsaber effects (i.e. the core isn't 100% white in a couple shots, but at least the blade isn't pink like it was in the 2004 SE)

Everything else is the same as the 1980 theatrical version, and it looks even better than the 2004 DVD due to Adywan's masterful color correction. And I'm amazed at how seamlessly he removed the Cloud City SE additions.

For the other two, the best you can do is to get Dark_Jedi's V1 or V2 releases, or wait for his V3. I haven't seen Harmy's "partially despecialized" HD versions, so I don't know how faithful they are to the theatrical cuts.

Last movie seen
Time

I loved Across the Universe in theaters, and loved it. However, I'm also a huge Beatles fan, and I was tripping (don't remember if it was mushrooms or acid) when I saw it first, so that probably made me even more biased.

However, every time I've watched it sense, I've liked it less, to the point where the last time I saw it, I hated it. The story just seems so forced in order to fit with all the music. Especially Prudence. Her only purpose in the movie is for the characters to sing Dear Prudence at some point.

It just doesn't really stand on its own at all. But there are some brilliant-sounding covers (Let it Be, Joe Cocker's Come Together, While My Guitar Gently Weeps). And I can't fault it too much, as it's how I was introduced to one of my favorite bands, the Secret Machines (who did the covers of Blue Jay Way and Flying, both heard briefly in the movie but included in their entirety on the soundtrack album, and they did the music behind Bono's I Am the Walrus cover).

My thoughts on the State of O-T dot com.
Time

Oh man. I leave for two days, and I come back to this?

Everyone in this thread's acting like their shit doesn't stink, but no one's being completely innocent in this. Everyone (including C3PX, and probably myself) is acting like a bit of an ass toward everyone else.

Why don't we all take a deep breath and think before pressing the "Post Reply" button from now on?
