Doctor Who

I thought the title was A Christmas Carol, rather than "The."  A small thing, though - doesn't really matter.

I'm not a big fan of the title.  They could have come up with something more original, but whatever.  It looks better than the shitfests that were The Runaway Bride and Voyage of the Damned.

Last movie seen
Time

I've heard very good things from everybody I've talked to that's seen it.  I myself haven't had the chance, unfortunately.

Every time one of the new movies comes out, my mom re-reads all 7 books just before seeing the new movie.  I always tell her not to because every time, without fail, she walks out hating the movie because of how different it was compared to the book.  Usually she warms up to it later, but she still doesn't understand how Half-Blood Prince can be my favorite of all the movies, or how Order of the Phoenix can be my second favorite.

Anyway, she re-read all 7 before seeing Deathly Hallows Part 1, as per usual.  She called me after seeing it, and she didn't have a single bad word to say about it - it instantly became her favorite of the series, which says to me that it's pretty damn faithful to the book.

She did say that the scene with the Horcrux showing Ron the vision of Harry and Hermione kissing was "too intense" - apparently Harry and Hermione are naked in the scene.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Stop making fun of GL Adywan and stop saying the prequels are bad films they are not just episode 1 is.

This I find funny, as Episode I is the best of the prequels by a mile, and easily the closest in feel to the OT (which isn't saying much, as it's still lightyears away).

But seriously, dude, you're on the wrong site.

And I'll continue to bash George Lucas until he gets his head out of his ass and starts allowing the theatrical versions of his films (Star Wars, THX 1138, and American Graffiti) to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in acceptable quality.

Oh, also, the "just be happy with the films" thing - I am happy with the films.  The ones he released in 1977, 1980, and 1983.

What I'm not happy with is the 1997 or 2004 versions - and even those I wouldn't mind if he allowed the original versions to coexist alongside them.

I'm also not happy with his 1999, 2002, and 2005 films, and I don't see why I should be.  They weren't good, and I shouldn't have to "be happy with them" just because Lucas made them.

Then you disagree with what skyjedi said.  He said that the Blu-Ray will be the 2004 master, but at a higher bitrate, which would mean it would have less compression issues than the HD broadcasts do.  That's common sense.  Yes, it will be better than the 2004 HD broadcasts simply because it won't be compressed as much.

That does not mean the colors or audio will be fixed.

And I would be absolutely shocked if they do new HD masters - it would mean they'd have to re-do all the new CG work they did for the 2004 master.  I highly doubt they'll do that.

Good to know about the lack of an ESB '85 mix.

I wasn't sure and had no way of knowing, which is why I did my best to identify what LDs could have had a 1985 remix on them.  At least we now have it straightened out, so there won't be dupe mixes on the V3 DVDs.

And ABC/Leguman, those labels are perfect to go with those covers.  Easily my favorite trilogy set I've ever seen (definitely better than my '90s VHS set).  Very well done, sir!

Seriously, though, why would they remix Jedi in 1985 anyway?  The movie only came out two years prior.  It makes much more sense for them to remix Star Wars and Empire to bring them closer to the quality level of Jedi's 1983 mix.

It's my gut feeling that both the 1986 and 1987 laserdiscs carry the original 1983 audio mix.

Well, the 1986 laserdisc is the only possible source for the 1983 theatrical mix.  And if there's no difference between that and the 1987 LD, maybe there never was a 1985 remix for Jedi?

Either way, if there really is no difference, that means it would be either:

1983 Theatrical Stereo
Dolby Digital 5.1 Remix
1993 Home Video Stereo Remix

OR

1985 Home Video Stereo Remix
Dolby Digital 5.1 Remix
1993 Home Video Stereo Remix

If there truly is no difference between the two, I'd venture a guess that there was no 1985 remix for Jedi, and that Star Wars and ESB were remixed in order to bring them up to the quality level of Jedi's mix.

Oh, and ABC - I liked the first back cover you had for Star Wars better.  It fits better with the ESB and ROTJ teaser posters, IMO.

I agree CA, definitely needs to be PG.

If you've seen something else, it because it was not finished.

The SW poster has no PG rating though...

...except for the one underneath George Lucas' name, you mean?

Oh, and the white ESB logo works better in the context of all three, so I change my preference to the white logo.

ATTENTION: Dayv needs our help
Time

Wow.  I don't know what to say.  This shit would never happen with a single-payer health insurance system.  Too bad our government is so fucked we can't get something as simple and obvious as that to pass.

I wish I could help, Dayv - unfortunately I'm struggling to pay my own bills myself, so there's little I can do.  Hell, I can't even say I'll pray for you since I'm an atheist.

I'm sure there are many members on here who can offer more help than I can.  All I can say is good luck, and I sincerely hope things start to turn around for you.

I vote blue Empire logo on the back.

Also, and I know I sound like a broken record here, PG on the back instead of G.  The G rating simply makes no sense at all - it's inconsistent with the front, and it's inaccurate to boot.

Other than that, these may be my favorite Star Wars covers I've ever seen!

Oh, and for Jedi, I'd definitely prefer the lightsaber poster to be on the back, with the standard poster on the front, the way you had it before.

Well, that's because saving as jpeg from Photoshop will always recompress the image.  Saving from the Web to your computer just copies all the information, with no recompression at all.

Also, I recommend TIF or PNG files (both lossless) as opposed to BMP (lossless, but larger file sizes).  I tend to use PNG files the majority of the time.
