STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I noticed the smile - great touch!

Gotta say, Ady, it looks absolutely fantastic. My only quibble - and it is minor - is that it looks a little too "grayscale." The 1980 version had more of a clear "flesh tone" to the face, and you can clearly see color in the officers' holograms before you get to the Emperor scene.

Other than that, I'm stunned. It actually looks like (gasp!) the Emperor now!

Saw Kill Bill 1 & 2 for the first time this weekend
Time

Personally, I make three distinctions with movies:

- Liked it/it was good
- Didn't like it/it was bad
- Couldn't finish it

I won't say I did or didn't like a movie unless I've watched the whole thing, regardless of how good or bad the first half hour/hour/whatever was.

For example, I've never finished Lost in Translation. I don't have much desire to, either. But I don't know if it's a bad movie or not, because I haven't seen the whole thing.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

The Conquest Blu-Ray has both the PG-rated theatrical cut, and an "unrated" extended cut, which has the alternate ending, much more blood and violence during the "uprising" scenes, and the proper score during said scenes (as, when they had to cut the violence, they had to scrap the score and track the main theme throughout the battle).

The ending is better, mainly because it leads into the original Planet of the Apes better and makes Battle redundant and unnecessary (which is good, because Battle is a terrible movie).

In case you're curious about the specific differences:

I just quit smoking!

So, Ash. How are you holding up?

Pretty good. It's been about 3 and a half days, I've only asked for a drag off of someone's smoke once (they refused, since they knew I'd quit), and there's only been one time when it's "gotten" to me (in my Documentary Editing class, where my professor is the most pretentious douche on the planet. Seriously, he's the only instructor at my school who has ever insisted on us calling him "Professor." And he looks like V. I. Lenin, goatee, bald head, and everything. Sorry, I'm ranting now...)

I've found it helps not to think of it as "I'm trying to quit," or "I'm quitting," the way I always used to when I tried to quit. No, this time, I have quit. I'm a non-smoker. I don't smoke. Not "I quit smoking a week ago," or "I used to smoke, but I'm quitting," or anything like that. Making it sound more "final" really helps a lot.

I stopped using a Mac!

Apple's overpriced, blah, blah, blah.

You know what? My MacBook Pro does everything I need it to do, and it's lasted longer than any other computer I've had. Not to mention the two times it has had issues, Apple has fixed it FOR FREE, even when it was out of warranty.

And as Frink said, we already have an Apple-bashing thread on this forum, thank you very much.

You know, you don't have to start a thread every time you see a movie. Why not just post in the Last Movie Seen thread?

Also, how can you say you don't like a movie when you won't even sit through it? Of course Pulp Fiction confused you if you didn't watch the whole thing, it jumps around the timeline so much you have to see the whole thing! Same thing with Reservoir Dogs.

EBAY HAS THE 5 STAR DVDS UP FOR SALE!!!!!!
Time

Well, for one, it's gonna be hard as hell to even find the 1997 SE's up for download anywhere. The only versions officially available on DVD are the 2004 SE's and the '77-'83 original theatrical cuts.

Dark_Jedi is working on a 1997 SE set, but it hasn't been released yet. When it is, it'll be made known on this site. And it'll almost certainly be better quality than the "Five Star" bootleg.

I'd advise you to check out the Preservations section of the forum for information on DJ's upcoming 1997 SE set, and his other upcoming restoration of the '77-'83 theatrical cuts (the official DVDs of those are atrocious).

Typically, these projects are made available via torrents, usenet, or Rapidshare. Many are also willing to mail you physical copies, as long as you either A) send them the blank discs, or B) promise to "pay it forward" - as in, someone sends you the discs, then you copy them and mail them to others who are looking for them.

Downloading a DVD copy of the 1997 Special Edition when you own VHS tapes of the '97 SE is okay. (Well, maybe not okay by Lucasfilm's standards, but it's enough of a gray area that it's okay by this site's standards.)

Posting a link to someone illegally selling a bootleg for profit is absolutely not okay, and will get you banned from this site.

Directly quoted from this website's rules:

Do not post links to websites selling bootlegs/silvers, or eBay auctions for non-official media.

You can find these rules here.

I just quit smoking!
Time

My mother and stepdad (who I lived with) never smoked. Well, I've caught my mom smoking on occasion, but only in "social" situations (at a wedding, or at a 4th of July party, et cetera).

My father and stepmother, on the other hand, did, and still do, quite often. I used to go stay with them every other weekend, and my grandpa (father's father) always picked me up - he would always smoke in the car on the 45-minute drive there, with the window open maybe an inch. When I was building a model train set as a kid, I had a model factory thing, and he would blow cigarette smoke in the smoke-stacks to make it look more "realistic" (yes, my grandpa, father, and stepmom smoked in the house all the time, and I think they still do).

My other grandpa (mother's father) smoked regularly, too, also indoors, and also when I was around, as did his wife (my stepgrandma?). They, however, no longer smoke indoors, and don't usually smoke around us kids.

It always surprises me to hear people say that they don't smoke because their parents/grandparents/whatever smoked around them, because that was always one of the reasons I never had any problem with it. I was used to the smell, the feeling of smoke in my lungs, all that stuff from a very young age.

The first time I smoked anything, it was pot, from a joint. I smoked it like I imagined one would, from witnessing my family members smoking cigarettes for sixteen years. I smoked that joint properly without anyone having to explain to me how it was done, I got super high, and I never coughed once. Everyone that was with me was either very impressed, or didn't believe that I'd never smoked before.

The next year, when I started smoking cigarettes, I somehow just knew how to inhale tobacco smoke properly (as anyone who does both knows, hitting a joint and smoking a square require different types of inhalation) without being taught, and I never coughed from that, either.

Both of these things I attribute to my father, stepmom, and various grandparents smoking around me as often as they did.

(In case anyone was wondering from reading this post, pot is not included in my "quitting smoking" thing. They're two entirely different things. Besides, if I ever get up to smoking 20 joints a day, I'll quit that, too.)
