Truly, this is probably the first movie I remember seeing in the theater, and it really does hold a soft spot in my heart.

It’s a little before my “theater age” time, but I wore out our VHS copy almost as badly as Empire and Jedi.

Yep. I owned this set and remember being disappointed that it was the SE. They came out after TPM on VHS, with the box art designed to match the TPM (and later AOTC) art, episode numbers and all.

Too much screentime, and screentime is at a premium when you’re editing 6 seasons down into three 2-hour movies.

Look, the Umbara arc is great, possibly the best of the series, but it doesn’t fit if you’re trying to make a trilogy between II and III that sets up Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship, Anakin’s distrust of the Jedi and jealousy around Padme, and explains important things not elaborated on in the films like Sifo-Dyas and Force ghosts.

If the idea were to do more than three movies? Sure, Umbara would be a good choice. But there’s just not enough time to include something that’s just a distraction from the primary goals of the edit(s).

The trick is not picking arcs just because you like them or because they’re good (then you’ll end up with 9 films like smudger9), but picking arcs that develop Anakin and Obi-Wan as characters and enhance or add to things already present in AOTC and ROTS.

I remember the skyscraper being much taller. Then again, I’m probably remembering tons of nested quotes of it in a row…

If the mkv video and audio are already Blu-Ray spec compatible, download tsmuxer and use that to remux the MKV to either a BDMV folder or a Blu-Ray ISO. No reencoding or anything required.

Yeah, as much as everyone loves the Thrawn Trilogy, those were military sci-fi, not space opera. You can thank Zahn for Star Wars books since then continuing this trend.

I was thinking that it could be dependant on final release format. Maybe an NJVC-style full BD50 as the “primary” release with soft subs, and a movie-only MKV with hard subs for those of us that’ll be watching on media players that don’t like forced soft subs?
