The Phantom Menace - Theatrical version scanned in 4K (a WIP)

I always thought that TPM was in 2K at best, as a result of its CGI and digital composition being only done in 2K. Wouldn’t the whole film need to be re-rendered to be truly in 4K or am I mistaken?

They don’t do that for the 90% of current movies that have all their CGI and the final master done at 2K (like every Marvel movie).

WAAAAAYYYYY more 4K BR’s are upscaled 2K than you think.

If you want the theatrical versions
The Phantom Menace: 2000 Widescreen Video Collector’s Edition (VHS)

Also laserdisc.

Attack of the Clones: 2002 widescreen DVD is identical to the digital projection version

This is probably false (as far as we know the garage scene was extended for the DVD) but we don’t know for certain since we have no bootleg of the digital theatrical cut.

Revenge of the Sith: Theatrical version never released, but the Blu-ray and 2005 widescreen DVD are almost identical (Disney+ version is the Blu-ray version upscaled to 4K)

Literally the only difference between the HDTV/DVD and the theatrical cut is a wipe that accidentally got changed to a hard cut.

As for the BR, the wipe was fixed, but moss was added to Kashyyyk rooftops and some sound effects added when the clones attack on Utapau. That’s it. Other than that, the BR is the theatrical cut.

Original trilogy: 1992 Special Letterbox Collector’s Edition or 1995 THX Widescreen Edition (VHS)

Also laserdiscs and 2006 GOUT DVD release.

Perfect! 😄

As for the “pulsing” effect, if it’s possible to give Anakin’s saber a blue version of the same effect Kylo’s red saber has, I think that would work both logically (she had to use a cracked Crystal much like Kylo did) and thematically (she’s inching closer to falling to the dark side, much like Kylo did).

Only problem there is if Anakin’s lightsaber works like that with no crossguard, it begs the question of why Kylo added a crossguard when he turned his saber from blue to red if it wasn’t to contain the energy of a cracked crystal…

With respect, I honestly can’t understand why so many people think it’s perfectly okay to have “Rey Nobody.”

TFA established, and TLJ continued, the notion that this “nobody” is vastly overpowered with the Force compared to anyone else, without any training. That needed an explanation.

Um…was the Dyad thing not the explanation?

Also, the idea that a “nobody” can have such innate talent with the Force was kind of the whole point/message, wasn’t it? Bloodlines don’t matter, anyone can be the most important person in the galaxy?

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)

Oh, I was just talking about altering the end of ROTJ, not TROS. I think Victory Celebration is a better track to end on, especially if you intend to follow it up with the ST, but I’ve never liked the planet cutaway celebrations in ROTJ.

But something like what I want to do certainly would mesh with a TROS edit where someone used ROTJ:SE Bespin/Coruscant/Tatooine/Naboo celebration shots. But I don’t intend to do a TROS edit.

…yet.

Yub Nub!

Nah, I prefer Victory Celebration instead.

I’d say this edit is a perfect place to try out using Victory Celebration without cutting away to the SE planet celebrations, since that ending is now redundant with TROS and you could then reuse some of them, like Coruscant, for TROS Ascendant.
