I figured you’d started doing that, and that’s where regressions slipped in like the R2 freakout on the latest ROTJ workprint. If you were sticking with your previous 720p despecialization, I’m not sure how that could have happened. Anyway, we should probably consult doubleofive’s gallery religiously when it comes time.

That will put an end to that perennial topic. So I’m assuming this means re-despecializing, with risks of regressions in the process? Or is the assumption that a lot of the previously despecialized shots would be replaced with 35mm?

Also, the plan is that with the next version, I’ll be moving to a distribution method that doesn’t rely on MySpleen and PM’s, since the current MySpleen invite situation makes that effectively mean “PM’s only”. So this thread might get a little quieter then–not that I won’t still appreciate questions and kudos and whatnot, but this PM thing is just not sustainable, not at this rate at least.

“Because it makes good business sense” has been a valid argument since 1997. If anything, that argument is actually becoming less valid as time goes on, as the proportion of the Star Wars fanbase that has actually seen the Star Wars trilogy that started it all decreases.

Looking at that, I think it’s clear quite a bit of DNA is shared. A non-trivial question, though, is who may have, in turn, influenced Mézières, Moebius und Druillet. Star Wars designs may have been influenced by the French artists directly, but could also easily have been influenced by the same older designs that inspired the French artists. Sci-fi art goes way back, as with all art & literature, there’s rarely a simple straight line in the tangled web of relationships. The only certainty is that it would be quite improbable for Star Wars (or the French artists) to feature entirely new designs with no influences from anywhere else.

That actually sounds great to me. I’ve been worried Star Wars was going to end up the worst-looking of the bunch. I love it, mind you, but I know you haven’t been entirely satisfied with the colors for a while now, and we have some great new tools you can use…

You’ve previously reserved the 3.x numbering for 1080p releases. Is this a change to that plan, or is that still on the table?

Also, I’d be delighted to have some of the dubbing and subtitle issues fixed for Star Wars. Between the problems with the Castillian and German dubs, to the old and problematic subtitles, a new release would help everyone.

EDIT: Also, are you taking lists of recommended improvements? I don’t want to post in the thread without your okay because so many people are downloading these for the first time now and I don’t want to spoil the magic.

Actually, it does have them, just not in SRT format – look in the SUP-720p folder and you’ll find them. I’ll PM you a link if you need it.
