Influence of French 70s comics on Star Wars
Time

Looking at that, I think it’s clear quite a bit of DNA is shared. A non-trivial question, though, is who may have, in turn, influenced Mézières, Moebius und Druillet. Star Wars designs may have been influenced by the French artists directly, but could also easily have been influenced by the same older designs that inspired the French artists. Sci-fi art goes way back, as with all art & literature, there’s rarely a simple straight line in the tangled web of relationships. The only certainty is that it would be quite improbable for Star Wars (or the French artists) to feature entirely new designs with no influences from anywhere else.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

That actually sounds great to me. I’ve been worried Star Wars was going to end up the worst-looking of the bunch. I love it, mind you, but I know you haven’t been entirely satisfied with the colors for a while now, and we have some great new tools you can use…

You’ve previously reserved the 3.x numbering for 1080p releases. Is this a change to that plan, or is that still on the table?

Also, I’d be delighted to have some of the dubbing and subtitle issues fixed for Star Wars. Between the problems with the Castillian and German dubs, to the old and problematic subtitles, a new release would help everyone.

EDIT: Also, are you taking lists of recommended improvements? I don’t want to post in the thread without your okay because so many people are downloading these for the first time now and I don’t want to spoil the magic.

There are now 7 Star Wars movies.

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Holiday Special, Caravan of Courage… uhhh… hell, I give up. What’s the seventh?

EDIT: The Battle for Endor – dang, forgot that one. Yep, it’s seven now.

For just the alien subtitles, it depends which mashup you got, and whether they ported over the subtitles from 1.0 to the 2.0 workprint to replace the missing ones.

No, there were no subtitled Ewok lines. If your mashup includes the lines “I have come for the bounty…” (~14:16), “Bring me Solo and the Wookiee.” (~27:38), and “They will all suffer for this outrage.” (~27:41), you’re good to go. Otherwise you’ll need to download the subtitle file Harmy linked earlier: https://mega.nz/#!Ll03BZyY!3YEdAOXEKXJ4yj-wIfnXgWfnQmf0m5YH4i-bnlYrqSU

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

FWIW, and I think it’s mentioned in the README, none of the subtitles sync with Puggo out-of-the-box. All of the SRT files, even the 16mm one (which refers to the soundtrack variant, not Puggo’s particular release), are GOUT-synced and designed for 23.976 fps. I think I’ll just mark that SRT file simply “mono” in the future, now that it looks like there probably isn’t a different 8mm mono variant.

You have to pass them through a Perl utility to make them sync, and even then, the only ones that’ll work easily are the NTSC DVD ones due to the framerate difference. If you’re using SRT files, post-conversion, you’ll still have to change the framerate from 23.976 to 29.97, or inverse-telecine the video back from 29.97 to 23.976. Oh, and the subtitles assume you leave the trailer in place, but only subtitle the feature.

But I’m glad you got it working a different way. This info is mostly for anyone else who’s curious.

I saw subtitles for Empire! Woo! Oh, and thanks for the review too – and the helpful spoiler-gate. I’m likely to miss the entire theatrical window, which isn’t actually likely to cause me spoiler problems as I don’t know how the Internet works and I never leave the house. Basically I’m Howard Hughes with a cat avatar.

Why would you want to wait in line? I want to see the movie, not wait in line. I’m going to buy my ticket online. A theater near lets you buy your ticket and select what seat in the theater you want.

Hey, man – I’m getting the movie delivered to my house. To my house! None of this get off the couch BS. It should be here in a red envelope in about 9 months or so.

I’ve seen a couple reviews (neither I’d really trust, though) that say TFA is better than ROTJ. I can easily believe it’s better then ROTJ:SE, and am open to the possibility that it may even be better than ANH:SE, but if it actually surpasses any of the actual original trilogy, I’d be very pleasantly surprised and may give it a rental after all.

Then again, one of those reviewers also said ROTS was the best of the prequels, so that’s pretty disqualifying. Still waiting for more reviews to come in (mostly from friends).
