Idea: Integrating the two trilogies thread

I had a thought that I bet most will disagree with: Vader should refer to Palpatine as Master Sidious at least once in ROTJ.  There, I said it!

I have mixed feelings about that. It would be good for the sake of continuity, I suppose, but I'm personally the type who thinks that we should try our best to make the PT fit the OT and not the other way around. That being said, I AM pretty big on continuity... perhaps it might be better, though, to remove all instances of the name "Darth Sidious" from the PT films and therefore remove any reason for Vader to refer to him as such.

Well done on the video.  It's always good to see a new ROTS edit.  It has the most potential of the prequels.

I really like the edit of the elevator scene.  It's so ridiculous that old man Palpatine somehow managed to latch on after falling and swing out the door without raising serious suspicions.

I remember someone else did a similar edit of this scene (maybe Bob?) and then after they swung out the door, inserted Obi-Wan's line "Did I miss something?"  It was one of the few times I laughed out loud in a prequel.  After he turns around, he has a very confused look on his face.

That actually sounds like it would work pretty well.

maybe the fact that it is also the only time in the saga we see a lightsaber retracting from that close an angle that it looks a little strange?

This could be it.

Yeah, I think that's probably it, too. Ady said that the saber retraction is within the normal range of frames (I think he said it was between 4 and 8 or something like that), but I think what's weirding some people out is that that's the typical number of frames for us to see the WHOLE saber retract, whereas this shot is a close-up and we're only seeing a small part of the blade. As such, the retraction appears slower.

Is the version listed there the one with added shots and sequences, or the "purist" version? (Are there any other versions?)

Seriously, dude, all the info you need is there. As far as different versions go, there are four: the XVID, which what you'll probably find on YouTube if you look, the DVD-5, the DVD-9, AND the Purist.

I'm glad it was cut the way it was. "You could use a good kiss" ended Han and Leia's confrontation perfectly-I personally wouldn't dream of changing it. Plus, I've got to say that Harrison Ford's acting seems a little sub-par in this clip; Carrie Fisher's, on the other hand, is great. It was also nice to see a (slightly) more expansive view of the base's corridors. Overall, nice to see, but I'm glad it's a deleted scene. I doubt this would fit in with Ady's edit.

ADY,

Well, just seen the blurays of the OT. Empire looks to me to have gotten away unscathed. Didnt notice any digital tweaks, although been a year since I saw it last as I was waiting to see the Adywan edit. However I must say, it looked gorgious! Ady, will you be putting some of your fx/edits etc over a bluray version?

I have your New Hope edit, and love it! But its at the low res avi, and its the first release of it you did. So when I compared it to the new bluray the picture quality is a huge step down. Are you planning a higher res release of New Hope? I hate that the bluray didnt even fix the lightsabers, and seeing only 4 tie fighters in the final battle now looks kinda silly.

Ady is already hard at work (and probably closer than not to the final stages of) Empire Revisited. I believe his source is an HD broadcast. Among other, more serious reasons, the delay in its release was partly due to his desire to see what the Blu Rays might offer, but I'm assuming that at this point he won't be taking much of anything from them.

If the AVI is too low-res for you, have you checked out the DVD-5 or DVD-9 versions? Also, Ady WILL be releasing an HD version of ANH:R, but it will be 720p, not 1080p, and it will not be coming out until after he completes his work with ROTJ. If you have any other questions, I suggest you follow the link below. All of your questions could have been answered there in the first place...

With all the recent madness and disappointment with the whole saga of the OT on Blu-ray i though i'd try to cheer everyone up a little. So here is a brand new clip. Now the audio is only a temp track so you will see that effects don't sync up or are missing.

I'm still 50/50 whether i should include the hyperspace jump or not so this may well not make it into the final version.

Looks very good, Ady. Quite similar to the new Fox logo used in their newer films since around late 2009, but I'm sure that was probably your intention =P

The only thing that really bothers me is how static the background is. We can see the clouds moving in the current official version, but in your new version they don't really seem to move at all. Would it be possible to add some movement?

EDIT: Actually, now that I've watched it a few more times, it doesn't seem quite so static after all. Still a bit slower than what we had before, but I guess it's up to you whether you want to change that or not.
