Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Revisited [Ultimate Edition] by Anjohan

Dark secrets are revealed in the penultimate instalment of Anjohan’s “Harry Potter: Revisited” series. Half-Blood Prince is the second most-edited movie in the franchise and Anjohan has officially stepped up to the plate with his long-awaited update of HBP: Revisited!

Visual Editing: To start off, the colour grading. As much care as possible has been taken to reduce the diarrhoea-tinted filter from the picture, allowing Bruno Delbonnel’s cinematography to truly shine. If only JJPotter’s colour corrected version of his HBP Extended Edition was still available so I can compare it to this. Marvellous work! Not too crazy about the yellow tinge in certain scenes, though. The cuts and transitions, as per usual, are beautifully crafted. It amazes me how Anjohan is now able to closely mimic the editing style of Mark Day with these new editions! Some of the changes actually caught me by surprise. I’ll refrain from going into detail here so as not to spoil them for those who wish to check out the edit themselves. All I can say is, this is now the PERFECT set-up for Deathly Hallows. And last but not least, the Pensieve memories. Anjohan has gone all out to make these scenes as unnerving as possible. I absolutely LOVE the way young Tom Riddle morphs into Ralph Fiennes’ Lord Voldemort! An all-around magnificent job!

Audio Editing: Do I need to say it? Fantastic job on the audio as always! John Williams’ themes have been carefully edited to blend in with Nicholas Hooper’s wonderfully chilling score. And just like OotP, new themes from Deathly Hallows are introduced. The horror ambience is a nice cherry on top and it really helps give the Pensieve memories a much more sinister atmosphere.

Nitpicks: I must, again, point out the absence of a proposed change. If you’ve been following the thread, you’ll know what I’m talking about. I’m still curious as to why it’s been left out: a change of mind, perhaps? Or maybe this could be a stylistic decision. Nothing that’ll mar my enjoyment of this edit, of course.

Another home run for the goat Anjohan! This has been an incredible journey so far. I can’t believe we’re nearly at the end now. Special thanks go out to Chloe of Fanedit.org as well! Here’s to another great HBP edit! 🥂

Roll on Deathly Hallows: Revisited! ✊

Absolutely love the new colour grade, bro! The cinematography is finally allowed to shine, not to mention the retouched colours look a tad more enriching than the original HBP Revisited. And you’re getting there with the deepfake on young Tom Riddle. Just a few more tries to go. 😉

I’m excited to see how you handle the new horror-esque tone you’re going for with this instalment. Should be exciting! 😄

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Revisited [Ultimate Edition] by Anjohan

Another banger by the maestro! The rebellion begins at Hogwarts in this exciting fifth instalment in Anjohan’s “Harry Potter: Revisited” series. As Order of the Phoenix is my #1 favourite Potter movie (Deathly Hallows being the second, Half-Blood Prince third), Andreas has succeeded in making it even better by giving it the tonal shift he desires!

Audio Editing: The additional SFX and foley help enhance the overall feel of the movie and elevate the dark, foreboding tone to heights the theatrical cut wasn’t quite able to reach (despite coming close, particularly towards the end!). Musical continuity is on point, as per usual. Nicholas Hooper’s score remains mostly intact in this new edition, interspersed with some classic John Williams and traces of upcoming themes from HBP and DH, and it really works! The music is a little loud at points, but nothing too distracting. As for Voldemort… holy shit. If you thought he was frightening in GoF:R, you haven’t seen anything yet. Once you see (and hear) the Dark Lord this time, you’ll never want to go back to your regular Blu-ray again. Prepare to feel a chill through your bones.

Visual Editing: The cuts and transitions are seamless as always. The custom-made establishing shots of Azkaban, for example, are just superb. I especially love the new aerial shots of the Hogwarts Express and London Bridge in the snow. And I have no idea how Andreas was able to expertly mimic Mark Day’s editing style with the second Occlumency sequence, but he did it! Like GoF, three key deleted scenes have been restored, and Anjohan has chosen them wisely. The last two have been placed in their proper order as per the screenplay, and also to match up with Harry’s facial wounds, so bonus points for maintaining visual continuity!

If there is one change I’m feeling a bit iffy on, it would be the removal of Grawp. I was surprised to see him gone on my first viewing. Not that I mind, of course, but the scene where the Centaurs kidnap Umbridge feels a tad choppy. It’s less obvious on my second viewing, so I’ll happily let it slide.

Another nitpick is the absence of a flashback to Neville’s parents being tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange. Andreas shared a clip of that last year, which I really loved. He even expressed his lament last month at how quickly Neville’s parents’ deaths are glossed over in the theatrical cut, so it boggles me that it’s been left out of the version I saw. Right now, I can assume he’s had second thoughts about its inclusion.

Other than that, this edition is truly FANTASTIC! OotP is indeed the best edited Potter movie by far, and this will certainly be the lightest of the HP Revisited series. HBP and DH are for sure going to be extensively reworked, and for the better, and I absolutely cannot wait to see how they turn out, especially Deathly Hallows!

Rock on, bro! 🤘

Thank you for that video, Cam. I’m already done color grading half the movie and agree with almost everything the YouTuber said. But I think he went a little too bright in the midtones.

Like I said, not exactly as he did it. But I’m glad to hear you’re deep into HBP! 😄

I’ll give the new Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets a watch later on. 😃
