The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

We don’t know for 100% sure that Rey is dead dead when Ben heals her. She could just have fallen unconscious and been really weak and on the edge of death or whatever.

You know what? Looking back at the film’s somewhat vague production history, Disney must have really botched this as much as they could. And that doesn’t just regard the mysterious deleted scenes we’ve yet to see.

Someone needs to produce a feature-length documentary surrounding the production troubles, reshoots and re-edits, and the actors’ honest experiences on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That way, we can sleep easy knowing we’ll finally have the true story in our hands and Disney will be held accountable for the final part of the Sequel Trilogy turning out as bad as it did.

Because with all the information we have gathered on the movie so far, I think this is quite a lot to take in. And that usually exhausts me and constitutes as too much info to take in at once, but I am genuinely interested in hearing what really went wrong behind the scenes, and what we can all learn from it. 🤔

But yeah, I am still happy with what Hal is doing for us, the fans. I hope V2 truly lives up to the hype! 😁

Harry Potter Extended Editions (Released)

Trust me, that event continues to plague me, which is why on the preview of this new intro you will find a pretty good-sized watermark on it. I still find references to the guy that took my preview edits. They are still on YouTube and there isn’t much I can do about them. So I choose to move forward. I have enjoyed getting back into editing lately and I’m not going to let someone from the past take that away.

On that note, here is the new intro section that will be used on both Deathly Hallows Part 1 and the combined Deathly Hallows edit. The new intro includes the Dudley Redemption scene with green screens replaced. To accomplish this, I used Topaz Labs Video Enhance AI to upscale the footage to 4K and to smooth out some of the pixelation from the low res footage. This allowed for better masking of the green screen in some parts as well as allowing me to crop some of the green screen areas out completely.

I know that for some the intro will be way too long and the “flow” of it will have been broken by this addition. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, including whether to like this change or not. If you don’t like it, the current versions do not have this added in. To me, this scene is critical and should have never been cut. It had such an impact on me when I read the book the first time, so for v2.0 this scene will be there.

I also added sound effects when Hermione does the Obliviate spell as her pictures are removed from the frames. Some minor color tweaking was also done.

My friend, you just earned yourself a new subscriber. 😃

What’s the cinch on the bridge deleted scene from 7.2? I reckon it’ll take an experienced VFX editor in the field to get it looking just right to fit in the movie.

I’ve been working with the Captain Hux audio a bit. I wanted to try playing up the whole “playground bully” thing that Hux and Kylo have going on, so I tried to focus more on “Captain” being an insult, not just a rank. And then all of the other officers look over at him like, “Oh shoot, Hux was demoted?? That’s some hot gossip, right there.” (Note that the word “Captain” would still need to be added into the surround channels, so it doesn’t sound as echo-y right now.)

I like this version better than the last one. Granted, it’s been a while since I watched the last clip, but aside from the obvious point to make (i.e. the missing echo), the word “captain” sounds very seamlessly edited in, replacing Hux’s former position as “General” in light of his incompetence as leader of the First Order and allowing Kylo to formally assume command from here on out. Well done, Sherlock! Top marks all around! 👏

Well, I still do rather like the three-shot version. (Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Rogue One with TIEs added > TIEs over forest)

In a version using Nev’s new Biomes footage, it would be two shots: Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest.

It might even be all right to go with: Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest. But you’d only have time to see the front or side of the castle. (The music has dictated the pace of the added footage from the beginning. I synced the soundtrack to where the music is when we see Kylo and extended it backward.)

I think I might prefer the third option overall.

Holy shit. Your life sucks balls right now! Even I don’t have it as rough as you, and 2021 hasn’t exactly been smooth sailings for me — although I can say it’s a step up from the shitshow that is 2020, that’s for fucking sure! 😅

I hope this doesn’t mean you’ll be forced into early retirement, because judging by the wording in your post, you sound like you’re finally ready to throw in the towel. That might be because you’ve been through a lot this year, preventing you from releasing The Last Hope on schedule, but should you decide to make it your last project in light of your day-to-day struggles, then I anticipate it being the noblest end in fan editing history. 😌

I had been keeping up with MR’s updates on Youtube and it’s really unfortunate we might not get his shot of the sabers fizzling out on Exegol, it looked really good and I thought it was an ingenious idea. It really helped highlight the “end of the journey” aspect of the film, and gave the burial ending scene a much better context.

I thought it was a perfect fit for this edit since having both sabers “die” at the end feels like a natural conclusion to both the Skywalker saber being crackly and damaged, and to Rey picking Leia’s saber and finishing it’s journey.

I sincerely hope that’s not the case. It would be a shame to have all that hard work go unused.
