Actors/Characters Who Destroyed OR Helped a Franchise

Sylar or Claire on Heroes. I don't know which of these two asinine characters outdoes the other when it came to destroying this show. Suffice it to say, they had no story past the first season and were the weak links that brought the show to its knees.

I've only seen the first season of Heroes, and kind of liked it. I started season two and decided I'd continue to appreciate season one a lot more if I were to just stop right there and try to forget a second season was every made. And that is what I did.

As far as season one goes, I rather liked Claire. Sylar on the other hand, he was a good villian, but even by the end of the first season I was feeling a little burnt out on him. I can imagine any number of ways they could drag these two characters out over the next couple of seasons for something really awful.

However, from what I remember of season two, it was so unbelievably terrible, it really didn't need any help being destroyed from any of the characters, the writers seemed pretty hell-bent dedicated to bury it in the mud.

I loved that movie while watching it, thought it was shaping up to be a great little mystery thriller, especially when he met the woman in the cave. It was getting really exciting with all the conspiracy stuff. Then all the twists kicked in... and I was pretty disappointed. Feels like everything goes for the "WHAT A TWIST!!!" shock reaction these days. Comes off as a lame gimmick to me. Tired of it. Very disappointed by Shutter Island in the end, felt it could have been so much more.

I thought the same thing upon seeing it the first time, but the movie really stands up to multiple viewings.  Once you know what is actually going on you can pay more attention to the subtleties of the characters and the mystery, and to Scorsese's great directing.

I've seen Shutter Island twice more since I wrote the above post. I have to agree with RedFive (I miss him) about it standing up well to multiple viewings. I still think I might have really liked to see the film I initially thought it was halfway through my first viewing prior to the big twist, but I really have come to enjoy and appreciate it as it is.

Haven't posted much due to a pain in my lower left side. Just been using my internet time for sleep. It just feels like abdomen pain. I think I sprained it somehow. My birthday's on the 9th a.k.a. tomorrow. . . I might get a pet bird.

This girl knows how to post random thoughts!

Happy Birthday, Twist!

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Cracked out the old NES to play some Zelda a couple of days ago. After changing the connector inside my system several years back, I haven't had to deal with the blinking red light. It's been great. Sadly, after spending two years in storage, unused and unloved, I pull it out only to discover the blinking read light is back... :(

Not sure why this would happen. The new connectors are suppose to be a lot better quality than the old ones, and it worked fine last time I used it. I didn't leave a game in it while it was being stored, and probably clocked in less than 50 hours of play time since replacing the connector. Maybe it just took on some dirt while being stored, maybe if I take it apart and clean it out it won't do it anymore.

Lucas: Big pics are doomed
Time

Yes, Lucas of that quote would have died seeing the cash Avatar raked in. Of course, by that time, Lucas had changed his mind and denied ever saying that.

I mean, back in 2006 we hit a point where they were releasing some really painful to watch films and passing them off as exciting blockbusters. I fell asleep during the Incredible Hulk, I can't ever remember falling asleep during a film I paid money to see in the theater before or after that point. And King Kong was absolutely awful.

The studios blamed the Hulk's failure on piracy. Apparently George Lucas blamed King Kong's failure on the decline of the blockbuster. Seems nobody was stopping to take into consideration the slight possibility that both films just weren't worth going to see. Transformers, G.I. Joe, Avatar, and plenty of other blockbusters have done extremely well in recent years. Regardless of rampant piracy and the economy.

I disliked Guy Ritchie's "take" on Holmes, now I despise it. This is Sherlock Holmes for a new era.

In recent years I have often felt that with more and more ridiculous campy movies flooding the market and being well loved by the majority of the population, it seems that tv shows have become the place for fresh ideas and bold steps in storytelling.

The contrast between the Moffat and the Guy Richie Sherlocks is the perfect example of this.

Chuck [The final episode has aired. Chuck is concluded.]

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!!!! I can't believe it is over! *sob*.

Actually, Chuck was a show I was kind of enjoying for a while, then I took a break midway through last season, and now I just can't get myself back into it.

Maybe when the dust settles and I get my life back into a normal routine I'll give it a shot again.
