Why Leia remembers Padme but Luke doesn't
Time
There are so many ways we could fix that glaring pot hole concerning Luke and Leia.

1) Anakin be responsible for his wife's death (not this "he broke my heart" crap). He could have picked her up with the force, choked her in mid-air, and then threw her against a wall/floor in anger. She goes down and is unconsious. The fall damaged her and now she is bleeding internally.

2) Padme had a chance at surviving her injuries with the help of the medical team, but she lost the will to live. Medically, the droids could save her, but she's giving up. She's lost the strength to save her self and the droids can only so much. They have to operate quickly in order to save the babies before it is too late.

3) Leia is born first. Obi-Wan bring her to Padme's side and she reaches out and touches her baby's face while naming her "Leia..." She screams and pushes out Luke and she reaches out for her baby and gives him the name of "Luke..." but she never touches him. She tells Obi-Wan that there is still good in Anakin, but dies in mid-sentance. Luke is still at Padme's feet crying, while Obi-Wan hold's Leia in his arms.

There. Problem solved. Damn you Lucas.

Yes, but there is one problem why Lucas couldn't do it that way, you didn't mention in any of that writing, "Faster and more intense!"

A plot to destroy Supershadow
Time
To: George Lucas, c/o Lucasfilm, Ltd.
There is a member of the online Star Wars community who, for years now, has been lying, defrauding, and manipulating his way into the minds, and even pocketbooks at times, of decent honest Star Wars fans. This person is Mickey Suttle, otherwise known as Supershadow. His website, www.supershadow.com, is a known source of misleading, fraudulent, and altogether B.S. information pertaining to the Star Wars universe, Star Wars, and even to George Lucas himself. He is hurting the community, scamming fans, and making a mockery of Mr. Lucas. I have started this petition as a means to convince George Lucas to take necessary steps to put an end to this nonsense. Thank you.

Kevin Cornett

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

P.S.- George, when are going to release the O-OT on DVD? Remember us, the fans who supported you from 1977-83? We're still here, and waiting.....

His response was a snied, "So certain are you?" The guy is a Star Wars fanatic, but he just happens to like EVERYTHING star wars. He has very little taste in movies. And having him in Theory 348 was painful. He wouldn't shut up. It was like he was fighting with the teacher so he could talk. Hey, buddy I came to this class to learn, not to hear you blather on about stuff that isn't realevant to the subject.

Sorry, got a little side-tracked there.

I look at it this way, and this is where the PT will not pass the test of time. There will always be some fans who love the PT, and SW, and the EU, and everything about it. But overall, all the fans of the PT now, will they LOVE it 20 years from now like we do? We love the OT, it is near and dear to our heart, and it is the story and the characters, cause it sure isn't the effects, because we want the supposed old & outdated editions!

The OT is timeless, hence we are all here 22 years after the last OT movie came out, and still pretty much have the same views on the saga as we did then. The PT, is new, and that newness will wear off, and the effects will be eclipsed by something in the next decade which will blow the PT movies away, and then make them outdated. Does Lucas then update those 3 movies now to keep up?

Alot of fans love the visuals of the PT, and I agree that they are great to look at in certain scenes, but that won't keep their love many years down the road. Alot of them talk how much they like the PT, but understand its faults, the bad love story, etc. You watch these movies for twenty years and the faults will really start to bother you. The OT, with Jedi having some faults, is almost perfect to me. Star Wars & ESB are just perfect films, and quality always passes the test of time.

I did the SW test with my 7 year old nephew, there is hope!
Time
I was watching my 7 year old nephew yesterday, and he is a big SW fan. So I put all 6 movies on the floor and told him I wanted to ask a couple of questions on why he loves SW. First, he sees them as six episodes, as he doesn't know the names of the movies by heart, just Episode I, Episode II, etc.

I first asked him what are your favorites?

-He pointed, "I like Episode 4 & 5."

What which ones are your least favorite?

-He pointed, "Episode 1 & 2"

How come you don't like Episode 1 & 2?

-Episode 3 tells you everything you need to know about Anakin turning to Darth Vader, Episode 1 & 2 are just alright I guess.

Do you like anything about Episode 1?

-He kinda nodded, I like Darth Maul, but he dies at the end.

What do you like better Episode 3 or 6?

-I like Episode 3 better

Why do like Episode 4 & 5 the best?

-Because they are the coolest movies out of all 6, I like Episode 5 the most.

Why do you like Episode 5 the most?

-He just looked at me and said, "I am your father!" That is the best part of all the movies.

That was our exact conversation. Being 7 years old, he has grown up with the prequels on DVD, and like I said, he sees them as 6 episodes, which annoys me, but there is nothing I can do about that, but the fact that my nephew feels The Original Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back are the two best SW movies, made me feel pretty damn good.

Now this is just one youngling of many SW fans, but there still is hope that as times passes even the younglings will realize which are the best SW movies.

Clone Wars (2003 animated series by Genndy Tartakovsky) - a general discussion thread
Time
Luke: Leia, do you remember the Clone Wars, the animated Clone Wars.

Leia: Visions, they were on Cartoon Network but I was very young

Luke: I have no memory of the Clone Wars

I noticed that if you are into EU, you are more apt to like the Clone Wars Series. Personally I could never get into them, because I hate when Lucas has to include something interesting that he didn't have time to put in the prequel movies. But he can spend the first hour of TPM developing Jar Jar. It is one more reason why the prequels get my blood boiling when I think about them.

To me, it would have been if Lucas made a cartoon of Luke training on Dagoabah cause he didn't have time to put it in ESB.

Jedi Temple In ROTJ!?
Time
I heard that they converted it to a dome football stadium with Luxury Suites and everything owned by The Emperor.

Remember Palpatine was a good business man, I mean he didn't care that his face got electrocuted for 20 seconds and is now deformed, but he still had his wits.

Inside they had Dex, from Dex's Diner, who took care of all the food & drinks for the fans, plus if you had any secret questions on any missing planets, why not ask a fat alien with four arms instead of a jedi.

They had the two headed announcer from the pod race in TPM, why pay 2 announcers when you get 2 for the price of 1!

During the game there is always a marriage proposal in the crowd on the jumbotron, wait, here we go on opening night, some gawky blond-haired jedi who can't act worth a lick is asking this senator for marriage. She said yes, but he keeps mentioning how doesn't like sand for some reason. Take this off the screen, I am cringing everytime they talk to each other!

If you need something to drink quick, R2-D2 will fly and give it to you for an extra fee, but he only will do this for the first 3 movies, for some reason in the next 3 movies he can't fly anymore? Shouldn't have been the other way around?

Then the halftime show for all the kids, the mascot Jar Jar Binks, but beware, if your kid is over the age of 4, he probably won't think this gungan is funny. (If there is a backlash of Jar Jar, we may only use him in the first game, and then reduce his role for the rest of the season.)

And finally we have an indoor drug store with General Grevious selling cough syrup if your kid has a cold

Tickets $9.50

I kinda feel for some who didnt experience it at its peak then, so they could experience it without crap that surrounds it these days...........

It is such a different mindset now for fans who werent there at the beginning. They watch The Original Star Wars as Episode IV, and many put it at the bottom of their lists, because it seems so foreign to the other 5 movies! They have no context of the original whatsoever, they are watching it for the struggle of Anakin Skywalker and the whole movie has no context for it cause Lucas didn't think it up til ESB!

The PT generation continually makes excuses for the newer films, saying I love them but... AOTC is really great, but I agree the romance is pretty bad. What? The romance is the what the whole movie is about?

TPM is really great, but Jar Jar is annoying at times, but you just have to put up with him. What? He is in your face in every scene for the first hour!

TPM is a setup for the whole trilogy, you can't just get the ball rolling in the first movie. My response, did you ever see the Original Star Wars? Besides it being filmed as a standalone movie, it still works well as a setup that got the ball rolling pretty damn quick.

ROTS is really great, but you look too much into plot holes, I not going to worry about Leia remembering her mom, or Padme losing the will to live. What? Why don't we just delete the whole Luke/Leia talk on Endor Scene all together just to get continuity.

The PT settles for mediocrity sometimes, and that is the difference. Star Wars & ESB for most of us are perfect films, that we defend as classics. I never say ESB is great, but...... I say ESB is great, now watch it and you'll understand. We are all honest that ROTJ has its faults, and we all talk about the Ewoks, Luke/Leia being siblings, and Han & Leia could have turned in better performances, but we are hard on Jedi cause we want perfection, that is what the first two movies gave us.

ESB (OOT version) - My thoughts
Time
I still contend if Lucas just updated effects of each movie, probably most from the original SW, there would have been not as much a huge backlash.

I think there is one scene for everyone that has touched a nerve, and that was the final straw of our hatred for the SE. For me it was Hayden inserted into ROTJ. I absolutely hate it, it is such an insult to every fan who grew up with it, cause it makes the PT infest the OT, when Lucas should have written the stories the other way around.

If these changes for never made, for me, I would probably be fine with the SE:

Star Wars-

Greedo shooting first
When they approach Mos Eisley, the jawa hanging and swinging (it is so childish)
Jabba insertion scene
When Han is running after the stormtroopers and before he saw 5 of them as he suprised, now there is a whole room of them!

ESB

The Wampa screaming after his arm got cut off
Vader going to his shuttle in Cloud City
The new Emperor scene with Ian McDiarmid

ROTJ

The new song in Jabbas Palace that sounds like an MTV Video from the 80's
Boba Fett flirting with the women aliens, come on now George!
Putting the gungans and every city in at the end of the celebration, taken focus away from the characters
Hayden as Anakins Ghost

If they were purely cosmetic changes, I probably wouldn't be complaining too much.

And, lo and behold, it turns out that the TV series is going to be a convenient little loop hole for them to rectify all the plot holes they should have dealt with in the movies. "What about Ben and Owen?" "Um, we'll deal with it in the TV series." How much you want to bet that there'll be an episode where a 4 year old Leia has a Force-induced dream of Padme, waking up to say, "My mother is very kind, but sad."

Pathetic.

It is funny cause McCallum first instinct was right about the hardcore fans not buying 'doing it all for love'

It is so funny how times have changed for me, 5 years ago, if this article was posted I would be salivating about some SW news, I would always enjoy reading McCallums & Lucas' quotes about the saga, now everytime I read it I just get annoyed and could care less about the TV show and their revisionism on the last 6 movies. The biggest insult was when McCallum said, "The TV shows will be more character driven." Huh, wasn't the prequels about a character who falls from grace to become the 2nd most evil person in the galaxy?

I will be honest the only reason I read this article was maybe the slightest hint of talk about the O-OT. I think Lucas knows if he releases it, every older fan from the OT won't care about SW anymore, so he has to keep our interest that anytime he talks we waiting for those special words, "I am please to announce the O-OT on DVD....."

We will reply, Thank you George, now put a nail in the coffin.

Who hear thinks Jedi would have been more dramatic if Han Solo died?
Time
Lucas could have balanced it out with a nice sadistic mature ending, like the Death Star exploding,
part of it falls to Endor and lands on the entire tribe of Ewoks....and for the SE another chunk flies across the galaxy and smashes into the Gungans standing on the Naboo buildings...(and no i'm not serious).

Text

As the chunks of the death star are flying toward Jar Jar and the gungans he should yell:

"Weesa in deep dodo!"

BAM, the end of Jar Jar! All of the other Gungans live.

Now that would get me to buy the super duper SE of Return of the Jedi.

I would say to every PT gusher, hey it is Lucas vision, we have to respect that.

I read an interview the other day, where Harrison Ford asked Lucas to be killed off in ROTJ, but Lucas refused.

How would have felt about that?

I am split, part of me thinks it would have been a powerful moment, and maybe elevated ROTJ up to Star Wars & ESB status, but I love the ending (pre-Hayden Christenson Ghost), when they are hugging and finally beaten the Empire. In a sense it was great closure to a great trilogy, having Han Solo die maybe would have been anti-climatic.

What do you guys think?

I actually hadn't thought about the senario in detail...it's pretty funny actually.

It boils down to Lucas trying to fill plot holes, but made more in the process.

I think the initial idea was distorted in the prequels, In the ROTJ novel it's kind of expanded on (which Lucas approved, but has since been abandoned).

From ROTJ Novel

"When your father left, he didn't know your mother was pregnant. Your mother and I knew he would find out eventually, but we wanted to keep you both as safe as possible, for as long as possible."

Instead Lucas changed it so Anakin did know about her being pregnant, he ends up turning because he has visions of her dying during childbirth, the unborn child may have something to do with the turn, but you're given the impression it has more to do with learning the power to save his wife from death.

and

"When I saw what had become of him,I tried to dissuade him, to draw him back from the dark side. We fought...your father fell into a molten pit, when your father clawed his way out of that fiery pool, the change had been burned into him forever".

Again more changes, Anakin catches on fire at the bank of a molten river instead of falling into a pit, how he burned up isn't really that important, but the fact that Kenobi never sticks around to see him climb up the bank of the river, or pit as it was...adds more confusion to the logic of their thinking.

And the Leia "remembering" thing:

""...and your mother took Leia to live as the daughter of Senator Organa, on Alderaan".

You can tell it was the plan to have Anakin's wife survive and go live on Alderaan, then die from some unknown cause like a broken heart or some nonsense, when Leia is little (since Leia remembers some details in ROTJ) ..... I guess Lucas didn't feel like he could let Padme survive Episode 3, and leave her death unexplained between the movies, which is understandable I guess...He could have painted himself out of the corner with Anakin causing life threatening injuries to Padme, and having her die after spending some time with Leia or something....blech.

But basically he changed so much stuff around on these prequels, all it did was make Kenobi and Yoda look like illogical cowards, he turned Anakin into a desperate idiot ..instead of being obsessed with gaining power, and Padme' a melodramatic depressive.

Text

Even though it is in the novel, and not in the movie, it shows Lucas did not have this 'master' plan even on how Anakins unamed wife survived or died at time of filming the OT, or how Anakin turned either. Also in ROTJ novel, Uncle Owen is Kenobis brother, which would make more sense, cause it would make it so Anakin would never know where they live, when in the PT, Luke lives in the same exact place his half-brother still does, under the same last name, SKYWALKER! How stupid is that!

This is where Lucas didn't plan out the PT, so it hurts the consistency with the OT: Anakin is born on Tatooine, and creates C-3PO, who is owned by Owen Lars, his half-brother, who never moves after Anakin becomes Darth Vader, and keeps this special boy Lukes last name of Skywalker, only to encounted the same droid twenty years later, who is along with the same droid Anakin & Padme brought with them when they came in AOTC, what one big coincidence!

Oh yeah, and also, if Palpatine created Anakin through the Midiclorians, then now the end scene in ROTJ is Grandpa Palpatine electrocuting Grandson Skywalker as Father Skywalker watches, and then Father Skywalker kills Grandpa Palpatine to save Grandson Skywalker two movies removed of Father Skywalker blowing up Daughter Leia's planet, and then freezing in carbonite her boyfriend! Geez, just don't let her date him if you don't approve Darth!

What the Prequels have done, is make me realize how stupid these characters are for the choices they made, Thanks George!

Why do they go into exile?
Time
That is what the prequels did, they have opened up more questions than answered them. For every 'plot hole' that I myself have and many other fans who weren't pleased with the PT, there is always an answer, although it may be a ridiculous answer, but there is one for every point.

Example: Leia remembering her mom, to me Lucas just couldn't explain it, so the company line is, "She remembers her mom through the force." I don't buy it, it is such a cop out, but it is an answer.

Another one is Owen remembering C-3PO in Episode IV, when he owned him in Episode II! Everyone who defends this says in the Original Star Wars to see how he questioned C-3PO to see if it was him. He asked him he was a protocol droid and spoke Bocche? Yeah, that was grilling! And he didn't even buy R2-D2 until the other droid blew up!

My whole point if Lucas wanted to make a strong prequel trilogy he would have been real dilligent in his planning, and make sure that everything matched up, but that is why they are average movies overall compared to the OT, because just like his directing, and his dialogue, now his story was not up to par either.

Wasted chance for movie greatness.

The Ghost of Anakin Skywalker
Time
With that in mind, I wonder if the more appropriate ghost of Anakin Skywalker would have been altered if he had been played by an actor who's name bore star recognition similar to that of Alec Guinness. Imagine, for a moment, if the old-man-turned-ghost of Anakin had been played by someone like Burt Lancaster or Charlton Heston (and yes, Heston IS an icon of the old Hollywood machine, whether you like him or not); would George Lucas have dared to replace the ghost of Anakin Skywalker then?

Text

No way would Lucas have changed the scene then. He can get away with it because other than SW fans, who really knows who Sebastan Shaw is? If that was Charlton Heston, the hollywood press, would have exposed Lucas for changing an acting icon in his original movies, and Lucas would look stupid then.

Fondest Memory from the OT Days
Time
I was 5 & 8 years old when I saw Star Wars & ESB, and though I feintly remember seeing Star Wars in the theater that summer, I do remember seeing ESB in the theater in 1980, and it was way too dark for me, have times changed!

But my favorite memory was I remember it came on HBO in February 1983, and finally watching it again after 6 years with my older brother. The next day was a snow day and we were off from school, and I watched in the morning, the afternoon, and at night (Those were the day when the 5 star movies would be shown 3 times a day)

That year I watched it everytime it was on cable, and never got sick it, even to this day. I probably had to watch it atleast hundred times that year. I have to say, being born in 1972, was the perfect age to grow up with Star Wars.

To be honest, I just did a google search "Starlog/Star Wars Articles" and I got hundreds of entries and just kept clicking through it, they had many late 90's prequel rumors, and it is funny because everyone was so hyped about Episode I coming out. If you think back to 1998, all of us probably felt the opposite way we do now going into the prequels, I know I had high hopes. Just to read all of this stuff about Lucas's quotes on the OT, and what the new movies would bring because it is real intersting.

Text

That is one of the biggest failing of the PT is it was never funny. Whenever it tried it just came off as bad lines read by the actor. Remember in AOTC, when ObiWan is chasing Zam Weisel in Coruscant and Anakin goes to find a speeder, and when they finally catch up with each other, ObiWan asks him where he has been? Anakin says, "Oh, yo know, I was........." I don't remember the exact words Anakin said, but it just wasn't funny! Every attempt at humor in the PT was just forced and wasn't funny. The OT was very funny, mostly between Han, Leia, and Luke, it wasn't forced, and it was the first scifi movie that was serious yet hysterical too. That combo is the reason I love those three movies.

The Star Wars Saga - From a newcomer's point of view

I'm sure if they did an experiment of showing someone 4-6,1-3, and they thoroughly enjoyed, we could then say, see this is the way to watch it. Going by one person, whether it is true or false, really doesn't make the case for me.

I have a friend who just liked Star Wars & ESB, but hated ROTJ, should I have posted in 1985, the saga should be watched 4-5, and this person loved it!

It is interesting to see what they say, but one person does not make a science experiment.
