Sounds good to me, too 😃
Sounds good to me, too 😃
Bummer, because i think it works really great, too

I’m not sure about removing the fades - I’d be interested in others’ opinions on this. Subjectively I quite like them - they feel like a little reset or breather to me. I’m using them here as an alternative to wipes (which tend to be same time/different place, which there’s a fair amount of in this episode), to subtly allow a little time to pass in transit (since both follow a drop into or out of hyperspace). To me it feels OK, but as I say, interested in other opinions here.
I took a look at this again: They don´t bother me, but i would advocate for hard cuts and wipes or fade in/out only, for the sake of concistency. Either in a episode itself or the series.
Something strange happend As i started episode 2 via plex (no plex pass), it detected HDR for the episode 😄 But you didn´t add any didn´t you?
But i didn´t occur a secound time though.

Hmm, so you’re saying you just don’t like the original shots/vfx work from Disney and want the whole scene not to be included? I also think the original production looks pretty bad, but as a storytelling device for the plot there’s really no way out of it. How else would you explain why Leia is in a coma the majority of the movie?
Yeah, i didn´t liked it at all. I know it´s necessary for your edit. Perhps it would be possible to cut the shot at 32:53-33:06
Not entirely sure what you’re saying here. You’re saying you don’t like the original dialogue in the film? I’m not understanding what you think doesn’t make sense.
Luke: “I can’t save him.” (Ben)
Leia: “I held out hope for so long, but I know my son is gone.” (Ben)
Luke: “No one is ever really gone.” (Mainly a callback line to how Luke saved Vader and even though Luke couldn’t ultimately save him, there’s still hope for change at the end, so he’s referencing Ben’s fate as well. And then he gives Leia Han’s dice as memento of hope to hammer home the point)I think that’s one of the greatest exchanges of dialogue in the whole film and I didn’t edit anything here. What is confusing to you in this?
Sorry i was in a rush, so my explanation isn´t really sufficient. Yes, i think the original dialogue is at least flawed. Luke says he can´t safe ben, but also tells lea no one is ever really gone? Feels like a paradox to me if he´s also referring to ben.
I didn’t change any of the music as he is walking outside. It’s all the normal theatrical version. In fact there isn’t a single cut from the time Luke kisses Leia until after the AT-AT’s stop shooting so it’s not from me. What are you saying isn’t smooth?
The music transition from lukes mandalorian theme to the original music at 1:55:49/50. I like that you integrated the force theme from mandalorian. they are both so different, that it´s kind of bumby.
Nope, as above there isn’t a single change to theatrical here. It’s just a copy-paste over from the real movie. I’m happy to try to attempt to correct a mistake the actual movie made, but I didn’t notice any. Where exactly are you saying something is different?
1:57:19, that´s music from the original movie? There is also the first dialogue from kylo which feels drowned in the upmix. As 1:57:42 Huxes line “that´s enough”,
Sorry, it’s kind of hard to understand what you’re saying here too. What do you mean “music could come in sooner”? There’s regular music playing underneath the scene the entire time. And which image of Luke are you saying is unnecessary? Timestamps would be helpful so I can review
Still of Luke 2:04:42/43; music transition from 2:05:42/43, feels a bit abrupt. But maybe i´m to sensitive.
Also 2:06:11/12, maybe let the music when kylo enters the mine come in a little bit earlier but quieter
The camera shot is on Kylo, and Palpatine says, “My boy…” What made you think that was in Rey’s head?
I didn´t got the impression that palps is in kylo´s head, because he´s looking in specific direction and i know rey feels kylo in the original, here it feels she can witness what kylo is experiencing (palps talking). Therefore it wouldn´t fit for me afterwards when she´s not thinking of it any further.
You mean the shot of the Sith fleet moving towards the planet? It’s there as Palpatine’s message plays to show that his fleets have arrived and are looming over the galaxy. I feel like most of the shots of Exegol here would be more confusing than anything. It’s too specific of a reference to make any sense as a final scene in the last 10 seconds. Is there a certain scene from Exegol you think would get the point across better than the Star Destroyers over the generic world?
Yes that shot. At least it feels like that this generic planet is something important as three tie-fighter and the star destroyer are flying to it and we´ll see it again. That´s why i thought you want to show exogol. Which wouldn´t make any sense because kylo doesn´t know yet where palps is? Perhaps it could end with kylo staring out f the window? But the ending with palps meassage is great, carries far more weight.
2:08:33 feels also abrupt music-wise.
So have watched your recent 3.1 version of this and overall i liked it. Of course your excerpt in the first post is going much deeper, that couldn´t be established in the movie. But as far as working with the source material, it´s a welcome edition to poppa´s edit. I liked it.
Although i have some minor points mosty audio transitions):

And here’s what it looks like when I added a DCI-P3 Fujifilm 3513DI D55 LUT using the technique described in the video above:
Although I do have my opinions, I’m curious to hear what others think about it. Keep in mind that the bottom example is the LUT itself. I haven’t done any color corrections to it at all, with the exception of adding a broadcast safe node and a node containing the Cineon film log Color Space Transform, as described in the YouTube video. So naturally, I’m not expecting it to be perfect.
I think, despite missing cc, it´s way to blown in the highlights and to bright overall. The light source in the upper region and the entry on the right of this scene wouldn´t accumulate this much brightness. Hence, i don´t think this LUT works.
Version 2 is now completed and will be rendered this weekend. Anyone still wishing to download Version 1 will be able to until Wednesday. Then the links will be replaced with this version.
In short version 2 is an update that fits in better with my Episode 2 movie and hopefully The Book of Boba when released. Main changes are:
- Tatooine has replaced Sjorgen as the “middle act” of the movie.
- Moff Gideon climbing out of the wrecked Tie Fighter is now in the movie itself, rather than being a post credits scene.
- I have removed a lot of the “Mando gets shot” scenes which were just too many in number.
Great news and thank you for your work.
Same here, sorry for not being as collaborative as before. I´m trying to catch up with the polished episodes. But as far as i´m concerned my critique was always more technical nature (transisitions, glitches). For the narrative we already had good critique from vranir, Burbin, Cabijista, where i mostly didn´t have anything to add as they´re already cover in depth analysis narrative-wise for the polish.
I think due to your great base work there is very less to critisize, even more so with later epsiodes/seasons and your structure. So i see it as a non-verbal compliment for your work.
NeverarGreat, super excited to see this is completed. Would you be interested in getting it listed over at FE.org on IFDB? I can do the review if you’d like 😃
+2
I was in a hurry looking at Nev’s most recent clip until now. I like the subtle touch of adding lava to the extreme right side of frame for poppasketti’s forest flyover shot!
I agree. Would it be possible to add some lava (small line) in the center of the right frame, so it doesn´t slip under the audiences radar?
I would also say the two shot version is the more cohesive one. Not to discredit the other work, both are good.
Narrative-wise i´ve no addition to make, but i´ll watched it a second time because just wanted to enjoy it first. Perhaps i spot some things.
Colour grading look to-notch, more contrast just great.
People might have one preference over the other but honestly Sherlock’s also sounds super natural. I don’t think people would think anything is off with it.
Second that. I like both versions but thi is more natural. Great work
Another question Nev: Will you releasing both versions (starlight standard and visions) at the same time?
This is all great news 😃 My impatience is growing 😄
If MR gets them to where he’s happy with them and gets me the clips, but he’s technologically out of commission right now. If he can’t though, it’s something I’m considering “welcome but not necessary.”
Still?!? 😧
He needs a new PC and don´t have the necessary money for it right now due to covid.

Rey tricking the stormtrooper: For me this scene really doesn’t work because she speaks as if she knew this jedi mind trick, but she never seen a force user doing this trick before and she’s too new to the force to even think about doing something like that. I thought about a way this scene could work, but would require some edit and a Kylo Ren voice impersonator. If Kylo tried to make the same kind of jedi trick to Rey to gather the information about the map (before he takes off his mask), Rey would have known about this jedi mind trick before using it in the stormtrooper, and her line wouldn’t end being some kind of a deus ex machina.
I always got the impression, that Rey “learned” it from Kylo since he tried to get in her head in the interrogation. So i don´t see your point here.
After seeing the Alderaan Destruction Clip, I became more interested in trying to view the 1080p Regrade Test. Does anyone have it? (I can’t find it…)
Just a little typing in a search engine, like “star wars revisited”
https://swrevisited.wordpress.com/how-to-get-revisited/
I will be a slut for Star Wars again and my inspiration will come back.
Yes.
Had to laugh real hard and a little bit of sobbing, because it´s true. We can´t let go, we are like anakin.

Very insightful, thanks for sharing. Helps someone unversed in this realm like myself get a bit of perspective on what’s involved, both the complexity and monotony it appears that it is.Would you accept volunteers for helping out in some way? Obviously we wouldn’t be able to do skilled tasks that’s probably taken you years/decades to acquire, but perhaps there are some “ground level” tasks to prep frames to a baseline that could be diverted to the lowly peasantry, myself included in that category.
They´re always looking for help regarding cleaning frames from scratches etc.
oh my god, i might be mentally disabled; i can’t see how to private message on this site (new, here). i just heard about your GoT edit from almightycutie, and i am very intrigued. i was very impressed with “redeemed”, and would love to see what you did differently. would you be willing to share it with me?
Click on the username you want to dm and then “Start a private topic”, you can´t miss it 😉
Is there a link to the Blu-ray version yet?
nope
This edit synopsis sounds very intriguing and tempting, but for now i´ll wait on the new UHD release from scream factoy. In hope they deliver as promised (scan from the original negtaive print).
Regarding a potential two movie edit of season 2: I think it all depends on how the ahsoka, kenobi and boba series will interact with mando season 2, but it maybe is worth a shot.
I have to say after watchimg the new version of MALOVELENCE i´m quite happy how it played out. The musical transitions are now flawless, especially the ending, just smooth as it could get.
But your approved suggestions from vranir seem tempting. I would say, you decide if you want to take another edit endevour.
Just a fun fact: everytime, literally eveytime i just watch the whole credits for the sake of the musical composition:)
