How are you planning for the Oppocalypse?

I could never own an LED TV for my main setup. I’m glad I have one of the last plasmas made, and I’m seriously glad OLED is becoming a real option now. It definitely wasn’t when plasma was still around.

It’s a pretty low-end LED too. Bought originally for college. I’m wary to buy a new TV now b/c 4K OLED is still quite expensive, and I don’t want to buy a set, only to move in a few years and have space for something bigger. Will probably just stick with what I have until I move again, even though the current space could probably justify a set in low-mid 40s inches.

I’ve seen nothing to indicate he’s anything but a good father to his girls.

Except that they watch Star Wars on TV after school when they should be doing their homework 😉

I was surprised to see TFA airing on TNT this evening. I would think they would have promoted the heck out of it. I’m old enough to recall when it took a feature film three years to reach network tv.

I came home and my girls were watching it. 😃

Shouldn’t they have been doing their homework?

No.

Though it can be argued that that’s a positive trait.

Ugh. I’m about 40 pounds heavier than I should be and I know that eating less and exercising more is the key. Every night I think to myself “Tomorrow is the day that I eat a healthy amount of food and go for a run”. This never happens! I get about halfway through the day just fine, then walk over to the pantry and stuff myself with pop tarts till I hate myself. Has anybody discovered the secrets?

All of this compounded on top of my sexuality presenting itself to me recently. I’m very conflicted on that front, too.

EDIT: Hope everything gets better Ash. You too Handman.

Honestly? Don’t buy Pop Tarts. I’ve reduced my snacking simply by replacing a lot of the carby/sugary snack food in my cupboard with fruit. I can easily walk through the store without buying Oreos. But if they’re open and in my cupboard, they’re not lasting long.

I finished a 40-lb weight loss about a year ago. I just committed to exercising every day after work and made myself go even if I didn’t feel like it. It quickly became habit. Also severely restricted my calorie intake using a counting app.

Now I eat as I used to, except for the new snacking habits, and subbing a meal or two a week with salad, and get to the gym about 3 times a week for intense cardio, and I’ve managed to keep it off.

Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17)

Since this thread is about Fox being bought by Disney I think on a related note I’d like to ask: Why hasn’t Time Warner bought Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer? It would make perfect sense since Warner owns MGM’s pre-1984 movie library save for the ones produced by United Artists through Turner. It would mean having all MGM movies under one roof, plus recently the only thing that’s keeping MGM afloat is the James Bond franchise. Warner would also be acquiring Orion Pictures movie library which is currently owned by MGM.

You say why it would make sense for us, the consumer. But why would it make sense for Time Warner, as a business decision?

Things that you would like to see in Star Wars that have not happened

I’d love to see a Star Wars story, which doesn’t include or even reference

 • any Skywalker
 • any Kenobi
 • Darth Vader or any cheap imitation like Kylo Ren
 • Emperor Palpatine or any cheap imitation like Snoke
 • Death Star or Death Star II or any cheap imitation like the Starkiller base

So a Star Wars movie that isn’t a Star Wars movie. Okay.

 • any left wing or right wing agenda, make it just a good old “good vs evil” story

lol

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Thoughts on third viewing:

I love this movie. I really do. When I saw it in the theater, I took three major issues though. Some of the comedy, the casino, and I thought Yoda looked a little funny. Seeing it at home:

 1. I don’t mind the humor so much anymore; though a lot of this probably has to do with it no longer being new. I see it coming and just take it.
 2. Though I enjoy it visually, a lot of the casino sequence still feels like a waste of time. Them being chased around by that rich guy who was mad they parked on the beach was really dumb.
 3. Yoda looked fine. In fact, he looked great. I think for me it must’ve been the effect of seeing him (properly) for the first time on the big screen. Scrutinizing every detail. On my home screen, he looked about right. I think the camera angles are a little different than we’re used to from ROTJ and ESB, so maybe that makes him look a little different. Also, his color looks a little darker. But he’s also being filmed in the dead of night and it’s raining and he has an aura around him, so of course he won’t looked exactly as he did on Dagobah.

The plot of course isn’t without its contrivances. But nor are any of the other movies. All in all really enjoyable ride.

per a suggestion on the blu-ray.com forums, I turned off 24p output on the BD player. Now it works.

That you have to turn that off is ridiculous in the first place. They probably instituted some new copy protection scheme that isn’t compatible with older players.

Probably. But what doesn’t make sense to me is that 24p settings have anything to do with copy protection schemes.
