That’s one of the most baffling things about SE revisionism. If Lucas was really troubled by the inconsistency—that is, if it was always his ‘original vision’—why didn’t he film McDiarmid saying the ESB lines then? With him already made up for shooting ROTJ, I doubt it would have added that much expense. And Lucas had already shown a penchant for revising his films by then, having already altered the crawl of Star Wars.

1. Somebody loses a limb–probably,it’s been awhile
2. General Leia funeral?–this one’s tough. Kill her in the crawl, pan to funeral? IDK. hard to do tastefully, but they need to do something
3. A victory celebration? I wouldn’t mind a darker ending. FO destroyed, but massive losses, not much to celebrate
4. Kylo Ren funeral pyre? meh
5. Maz Kanata returns to give more wisdom to Rey. A truth/parents revealed? meh
