Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Thoughts on third viewing:

I love this movie. I really do. When I saw it in the theater, I took three major issues though. Some of the comedy, the casino, and I thought Yoda looked a little funny. Seeing it at home:

 1. I don’t mind the humor so much anymore; though a lot of this probably has to do with it no longer being new. I see it coming and just take it.
 2. Though I enjoy it visually, a lot of the casino sequence still feels like a waste of time. Them being chased around by that rich guy who was mad they parked on the beach was really dumb.
 3. Yoda looked fine. In fact, he looked great. I think for me it must’ve been the effect of seeing him (properly) for the first time on the big screen. Scrutinizing every detail. On my home screen, he looked about right. I think the camera angles are a little different than we’re used to from ROTJ and ESB, so maybe that makes him look a little different. Also, his color looks a little darker. But he’s also being filmed in the dead of night and it’s raining and he has an aura around him, so of course he won’t looked exactly as he did on Dagobah.

The plot of course isn’t without its contrivances. But nor are any of the other movies. All in all really enjoyable ride.

per a suggestion on the blu-ray.com forums, I turned off 24p output on the BD player. Now it works.

That you have to turn that off is ridiculous in the first place. They probably instituted some new copy protection scheme that isn’t compatible with older players.

Probably. But what doesn’t make sense to me is that 24p settings have anything to do with copy protection schemes.

Though I don’t care enough to see if those studies were conclusive.

They aren’t. But to the larger point, what kind of world would that be? I think it’s great that we can all like different things and lead our lives.

For instance, I despise light beer, but I’ve never ended a friendship because someone ordered a pitcher of Miller Lite at happy hour.
