wrong thread
This thread just got too real.
Gotten into this album lately
Good one. Have you listened to their other stuff?
Yes,
I’ve had Eponymous (compilation of their pre-Warner stuff)
and have listened to New Adventures in Hi-Fi, Automatic for the People, and Monster since hearing Out of Time
I like them all. New Adventures is great too
Solaris (2002)
Pretty lame
I just signed up for the charter membership earlier today. I’ll test out the trial then decide.

My LD comment was sarcasm…
And yes, all the major studios are putting new releases on DVD. I figured the old combo pack was a strategy towards eventually ceasing DVD-only packages, but now many new release BD don’t have DVDs in the package, but DVD-only is still strong. Have these people even watched a Blu-Ray? I’m sure most of them would be upset if their Netflix stream shot down to 480 due to a bad connection.
Was shocked to see this on Bill Hunt’s site the other week. If anything, I’d have expected the physical media market left to videophiles, with everyone else going to streaming over DVD.
LOL!
I find it surprising that enough of the kind of people who buy Criterion discs are still buying DVDs that it’s still worthwhile for Criterion to press them.
I mean, why don’t they keep selling Laserdisc while they’re at it?
Choosing to depict the lightsaber as anything more than a rarely used ceremonial weapon was an unwise decision.
What would you consider the limits of rare usage?
One-on-one combat with a lone gunman or another lightsaber wielder. Never in the battlefield against multiple gun-wielding combatants.
I agree with you then. Except when tearing up hoards of killer robots. That’s badass /s

Harold and Maude
It’s really difficult to articulate why this film is so wonderful. It just is.
Moonraker sucks
It does if you expect nothing but the utmost realism from your James Bond movies, which seems to be your case.
I don’t think any Bond movie meets that standard.
E.g., I’m quite fond of the Sky Who Loved Me as well
If the sky really loved me then the sun wouldn’t be so goddamned bright all the time.
Hence past tense
It just takes Cameron a lot of time to personally scrub off the grain.
How did that one end? Lol
They tried to blow Vader out an airlock, but he Force walked his way back in.
You mean like Mary Poppins???

The Third Man
I’m a bit confused why it’s so highly regarded. I feel like we don’t get to know any of the characters well enough for the ending to have the emotional impact it’s striving for.
Haven’t watched the Moore films as recently, but they’re too over the top too.
For Your Eyes Only is the major exception.
Absolutely. Love For Your Eyes Only.
Awesome. You won’t regret the trip!
Mark should have got an Oscar nomination at least. He’s always had the acting chops. If not for the shadow of Luke hanging over him in the 80’s, he could have been cast in the Amadeus film after doing the role on Broadway.
It’s easily the best performance I’ve seen from him. Kinda weird that he still has sour grapes about the direction considering how great the role was, but then I guess if you look at the full quote he understands how lucky he is to have gotten another crack it at all. Another trilogy with the old cast as the stars was never gonna happen at this point, and if it did, it would have probably sucked.
I think most critics recognize Mark’s great performance, while still not liking the direction the saga has taken. I think it’s his best performance in the saga, but I just don’t buy the change in Luke’s character. It’s a great character, just not Luke Skywalker in my mind.
Do you really not buy it because it’s not believable? Or do you just not want to buy it out of stubbornness because you would have preferred something different? We’re talking a 30 year gap and a lot of experience and development in the interim for Luke. Frankly, it would’ve been less believable if he hadn’t changed.
Four of the six titles I ordered sold out during the sale. I feel kind of accomplished lol
Was that a 70mm print? Regardless, sounds incredible. This was the first time I saw an IMAX screening. Blown away.
