Anyone want to over-analyze their choice of thumbnail art for SW77 with me?
Anyone want to over-analyze their choice of thumbnail art for SW77 with me?
Only two more days till an answer might arrive.
Any reason you’ve chosen Saturday in particular of all days of the convention?
I will accept my punishment with grace and gratitude.

Meh. I prefer to place my hope in things that matter.
Like grammar? 😛
Exactly. Implications for the viewer as in ruining suspense of the grand reveal in Jedi.
My dad, who is hardly a SW fan, recalls how the reveal of Jabba was such a big deal and everyone was talking about Jabba when ROTJ came out (he was in college in 83).
IIRC, they were only shown at Celebration. A couple other shots were slightly altered, like a view of the Trade Federation ships over Naboo.
The OT has yet to be screened, if their conversions were finished at all. Some of the changes seen on Blu-Ray, (like all the new gizmos popping out of Artoo when he’s shot in ROTJ) were apparently to enhance the 3D effect.
Don’t forget about the rocks.
TLJ, Solo, RO, and TFA have all been on Netflix at one point or another.
The only Star Wars content on Netflix are The Clone Wars (both the movie and show), The Last Jedi and Rogue One. They’re going to be leaving Netflix very soon since Disney+ is launching this Fall.
Just saying it is not necessarily true that they can’t be on streaming and cable simultaneously.

If we’re counting the SEs then I guess the worst moment in all of the Star Wars movies that I’ve seen is the dance number in Jabba’s palace. Not including the SEs I’d probably say the CGI Peter Cushing stuff in Rogue One. Either that or my initial choice of the droid assembly line in Clones.
Worse than Jabba in Star Wars? The new song and dance number might be more cringe inducing, but Jabba in Star Wars has implications for the viewer that stretch beyond the single scene and even movie.
In 1997 in theaters, did the SE films open with the original Fox and Lucasfilm logos, or had they already been replaced by the CG versions seen on the DVD?
Moot, eh?
Sounds a good name for a film… 😉
Wow, you’re so clever! 😉
Moot. Misread last post
Samsung’s departure is being overblown. It’s a crowded market, and they’re better known for their tv sets anyway.
Not everyone can stream to their heart’s content even if they wanted to. Conversation I had with the phone company guy installing my new DSL said it would take an act of Congress to get high speed fiber optic cables installed in areas like where I live. Physical media isn’t going anywhere.
Wake me when they stop making Compact Discs. 😉
And as I understand it, Sony’s, Panasonic’s, Pioneer’s, etc. repossess to Oppo’s and Samsung’s exit from the market was to step up their game.
Also worth noting that Samsung didn’t just quit 4K, they quit optical media players outright. So it looks more of a shift to focus on TV sets than a statement about any particular format.
Lucas announced the Blu-Ray Saga at Celebration. The OT in 4K would be a big deal for a lot of folks, regardless of whether the OUT is included.
Should be a big week even for non-convention people. IX title and trailer for sure, probably a home video announcement for TFA and RO at least if not the original trilogy as well. Excited for IX news and nervous to see what the future holds for Star Wars on home video.
I was able to get around the TLJ lockup by turning off some setting. I don’t remember which one. Some Frame rate conversion setting IIRC.
I seriously considered running to Walmart that night to get a new player!
Separate occasions. 2001 was the 70mm road show last summer. A local art house theater showed a DCP of Lolita a few months ago. Should’ve saved some cash and rented it at home.
Continuing my western kick with Stagecoach. Really fun!
The John Ford/John Wayne one?
Duh…
I am tempted to watch the Bing Crosby remake now. Should I?
2001
Lolita
…that’s it

Watched One Eyed Jacks last night. First time. Really good movie. Even more stunning transfer that makes the impressive vistas that much more stunning.
Look a few posts up. They’ve already published the first month’s listings!
When I watch a movie on Blu-Ray, I sometimes find myself wondering how much better 4k could really be. I mean, I can make out the individual stubble hairs on Marlon Brando’s chin for gods sake (One-Eyed Jacks). How much better could it be?
I get the potential benefits of HDR for certain movies, particular flashy sci fi flicks. But beyond that, am really missing anything?
I had the pillarboxed DVDs of both trilogies (I know…) when I was a kid. And I have all the movies on Blu (TLJ on 4k) except Solo.
Next weekend: porg and waffles
