That would be boring.

That would be boring.
I can be specific.
Everything BESIDES most of Ian McDiarmid’s acting and the Order 66 scene.
Could you imagine how good the movie (in fact, the trilogy) could have been if Ian McDiarmid was truly taken advantage of with great dialogue and a palatable plot?
The Rebellion was just a rebellion, not even remotely affiliated with any government, which was clearly established. In TFA, they mention that there is a relationship between the Republic and the Resistance, but don’t establish what that relationship is.
So what you’re saying is that TFA actually provides more information than the OT concerning it’s respective military unit?
I mean, how clearly established was it that the rebellion wasn’t a spawn of the old republic for example?
Another thing that bothers me. The whole “map to Luke” thing.
It’s amazing how certain films can “get away” with stuff if the overall experience is viewed as a positive.
Independence Day is a perfect example. You can pick at the flaws all day long, and the flaws are most certainly there—but in the end, it’s almost as if none of the flaws really matter. The set-ups, the payoffs, the editing, the action, the pacing, the rhythm of the story—these things work in spite of other things that don’t. Things that would take one out of the story if the overall experience were weaker. We all know Independence Day sucked on some level—it’s kind of like a report card with a “C-“ in spelling while all the other grades are “A’s.”
As much as I love TFA, the “map to Luke” thing drives me insane.
So there’s a missing piece to a map to Luke that the “resistance” is trying to piece together. So let’s say they get it pieced together. Great. Now they have a map that may or may not lead them to Luke, who is undoubtedly a powerful Jedi. But Luke hasn’t been seen in years, and given the circumstances of his “walking away,” his motivations, state of mind, and attitudes toward the “resistance” are far from a sure thing.
Besides that, Luke’s only human. He’s not Superman. Let’s go find Luke! And then do…what, exactly?
Let’s waste valuable resources on finding one man when we have a solar-system destroying behemoth breathing down our necks.
The “map to Luke” thing is just as stupid as anything in the prequels, but it doesn’t matter because TFA is great in spite of it.
I’m betting the whole map thing was an elaborate and intentional design to locate Rey and bring her to Luke at the right time. We’ll see if they answer these questions in VIII.
Best part of that picture is that they obviously put two slices of Wonder Bread in the slot to make it look fuller.
(is the gif working?)
Yes
Is this guy for real?

Lol. And look at his other browser tabs. The only Wikipedia page that begins with “Home bir” is “Home birth.” That’s a really odd porn fetish. Next to that is probably something to do with genetic recombination, a cloning method, and further down “ascension,” which would either be an island of the British Commonwealth or the ascension of Jesus.

it will make the marketing campaign for the spin off movies a lot more easier.
How so? I’d think if anything it would complicate differentiating them slightly. Though I fully support the numerals’ removal from the marketing.
I’m actually really glad that Lucas removed the scream from Luke’s fall. It’s one of Luke’s most brave and profound moments, him screaming just makes it silly. Even Lucas realizability that and removed it in the newer SE versions.
The scream wasn’t in the original, it was added in '97 (not sure if removed in '04 or '11). I’m sure we are all glad its gone now.
I always thought it was confusing that Luke was silent while falling in Cloud City. I wish he would have screamed bloody murder while falling. Preferably with a terribly out of place left over scream from Return of the Jedi.
While many of the changes were “worse,” this was the dumbest in the sense that it was almost childish.
The DVD cover is the only one I really like.
The Amazon listing now shows that the blu ray will have the theatrical poster art under the slip cover, as well as a black snap case instead of the usual blue.

See first page. Wow. Lucas modified the re inserted jabba scene to remove reference to the fact Greedo was ordered not to shoot!

I was mad when I read the rumor, but I would have waited. I’ve never bought a digital movie. They usually cost the same as BDs, are lower quality, and I actually find them less convenient than physical media (i.e, it’s easier to take to a friend’s place, lend, and even play in your own home).
So no 3D Blu-ray until later this year. It’s lame that they’re delaying it, but at least they confirmed it’s coming.
They want you to buy it twice. And if you can’t wait four extra days but also want a physical copy, thrice.
Just out of curiosity (I would never buy this in a million years…), is there going to be a 3D BD release? If this movie doesn’t get one, I can’t imagine what would anymore. It’s really amazing what a dud the 3D-push was.
And while I’m here:
ESB
SW
ROTJ (throne room’s pros > Ewok’s cons)
TFA
TPM (only b/c of duel of the fates)
AOTC
ROTS
That is a very
interesting[convoluted] list.
Also, love VC on its own, but it just doesn’t fit the scene. I do listen to it on the soundtrack from time to time, though.

Sooooo “etc.” means non pertinent stuff or?
I think it was something about “making of the costumes and weapons” or something.
Deleted scenes and bonus content only come with the Target one? Good thing I pre ordered it from them since I had a gift card.
No, just a couple exclusive interviews etc. Most of the features are on all of them.
My thoughts on the packaging:
Standard Blu-Ray/DVD covers: great.
Walmart: obviously for kids (not a knock, just not what I will buy).
Target: Really awful, far too busy.
Best Buy: Also bad, and I don’t understand the appeal of steelbooks. It seems like they only exist to keep people buying things from Best Buy instead of Amazon.
Also, I wonder–will the differences be the actual case art, or just the slipcovers. It would be neat if the standard Blur Ray had the theatrical poster underneath the slipcover. They go well together.
Do we know that the rest of the planet wasn’t also surrounded? They called it a blockade if I’m not mistaken, and in this context that would require surrounding the whole planet.
And to answer your question, nothing
It’s not the term itself, it’s how it’s used. And it’s sexist because no one ever accuses male characters of being a Mary Sue, or a Gary Stu, or Harry Flu, or whatever.
Wesley Crusher (a man… sort of) is quite possibly the most referenced Mary Sue character in the history of fiction. He is even mentioned in the Wiki page!
Mary Sue is not sexist, this is language police gone mad and I guarantee it is not offensive to 99% of human beings on the planet earth. Pretending that it is sexist is a disservice to people who have experienced legitimate sexism. When at a restaurant while visiting Turkey, a relative of mine witnessed a woman get kicked by her husband for merely making eye contact with a male server. That is sexism. Uttering the term Mary Sue is not.
What we’re getting at is the way it was used is sexist. If a character is legitimately a Mary Sue or the male equivalent, sure. We’re just saying that in this context, no one in their right mind would assume this of Rey, so her sex must be contributing to OP’s conception. That’s all.
My first “nitpick” during opening night was that the Star Wars theme sounded different. Of course, this is due to another orchestra taking over for the LSO.
I had no idea they re-recorded that for every score. Makes sense, I guess, so the tone of the orchestra is consistent for the entire score.

Me too—I actually also cried when I saw the trailer on the big screen before Spectre. No shame.

Right. Obviously the author of that serial didn’t mean for it to be an offensive term. So the “a woman invented it so it’s not offensive” argument, in this case, is stupid. For the author, it was the name of a character in a satirical story that made fun of outlandish fiction by creating a hyperbolic example, who happened to be a girl named Mary Sue, and now society has turned the name into a one-sided (gender-wise) concept that is offensive, as is how a great deal of offensive terms “originate.”
Decided to poke around Mayhew’s site to find any hints, came up with this:

The timeline would probably correspond to around the end of the script, but England? Sounds like he’s shooting his scenes for VIII… and how could there by an announcement about the specifics of that without spoilage? Perhaps they’re unrelated, but it’s mysterious.
