Why bother? I thought this looked pretty good:

Well, if they released them officially, and you kept watching Harmy without purchasing the official release, you’d be a pirate.
Star Wars: The Last Jab
Nah, there’s plenty more sequels.
That’s why it’s unlikely.
(One reason Jabba gives him more time to pay him back in the bastardized version of original film.)
FTFY
That’s an important thing to remember. I don’t think GL intentionally erased the OUT, he just didn’t care enough about it to prevent its effective erasure.
Besides what has already been said (making the SE and PT), I’d say his worst decision was replacing Gary Kurtz. Return of the Jedi could’ve been a lot better if Lucas didn’t have as much of a say in it.
He supposedly wanted Spielberg, who couldn’t do it and maintain membership in the directors guild because there were no opening credits.

I wonder if the color timing didn’t fuck one of them up, and instead of fixing the timing, they just made both match (because the fucked up color timing was actually a deliberate creative decision).
I just someone point out on the Legacy forum that the “Star Wars Show” confirmed that this panel is entirely about A New Hope specifically and that there will be surprises. Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it:
So they italicize A New Hope for “A New Hope turns 40!”, but then they more importantly italicize Star Wars in “Star Wars 40th Anniversary Panel”. I see what they are doing there…me like.
They also italicized SW in “untitled Han Solo Star Wars story”
Despite everything else that has come out on both sides of this, the Landis quote still remains to me the most convincing evidence that it will happen soon. It is incomprehensible why a director of his stature and respectability in the industry would lie about such a thing, and it is equally unbelievable that he would have misheard or misinterpreted any personal communication with George on the matter.
A little somthin’ I just threw together…
“some jackass punk stole my wheels. Didn’t even have the courtesy to leave it on cinderblocks.”
Landis, and the fact it was Lucas’ staff who convinced him to release the GOUT.
My dad, who’s only seen the movie less than 5 times, even complained when I showed the SE to him a few years back. He goes “what, jabbas‽ I remember what a big deal he was when ROTJ came out. Ruins the reveal”
The Renpire Strikes Back
Huh. I hadn’t even considered the possibility of this becoming a series.
People get so crazy for those steelbooks, it’s like a license to print money. (I confess I was tempted by the one for Guardians Of The Galaxy.) Meanwhile, regular editions of movies often come in those damned flimsy eco cases.
I know, right? Can’t we just average it out and get regular sturdy plastic cases for everything?
My local Target has a bargain aisle with older Blu Ray titles ten bucks and under these days.
Is that a good deal in the US? You can get BDs less than 5€ here and movies like Bond you can get 3 for 10€ etc. and newer titles go for 9,90€ or less after 6 to 12 months from the release. For example you can get a 3D BD of Batman v. Superman for about 6-7€ now. I haven’t boought a DVD for almost 10 years now.
Lots of old titles you can get for $5 on amazon or bargain bins.
I think it’s happening, but yeah I’ll keep my all caps hype posts till it actually gets announced officially at Celebration.
The SE’s only leave a really bad taste for me given the status of the original versions…
That, but also Greedo shooting, Jabba in SW, and Jedi Rocks. Other than that, yeah, go all out on an SE so long as you provide the OUT.
Don’t forget ghost Haydn.
Ugh how could I forget? Pretty much have tried to purge that from my memory altogether.
A lot of those trailer shots are just glamour shots. For instance Jyn vs Tie Fighter, Jyn in tunnel, etc
Sure but the missing beach narrative and the larger Forrest Whitaker plot were in most of the trailers. The latter being something that might actually still fit what they ended up with.
Huh? All we got were one liners from Whitaker in the trailers. Beach narrative was probably just a more complicated setup for the complex, which was probably deemed to add nothing to the story but time and complication.

I’m honestly confused as to why there’s even a DVD-only release these days.
I really don’t think that Making Star Wars would post this rumor if they didn’t believe that it would most likely happen, and so far I don’t feel like I’ve seen any convincing reasons as to why it’s not true; Digital Bits, for example didn’t exactly reveal anything new, so I’d say that unless Making Star Wars redacts the story, there’s some legitimacy to it.
Well they said to expect updates. So let’s wait and see.

One thing Bill Hunt disregards in his latest post is that an OOT restoration might not be based on the o-neg.
It could be that, like Blade Runner, the o-neg will be used for the current version but other sources (like interpositives and separation masters) could be used for the unaltered versions. This would still produce something much better looking than any fan-restoration could hope to achieve with a 35mm print.
I’m certainly no expert on this. But couldnt they just scan all of the original elements that were cut out of the negatives separately and then digitally reassemble the original cut? I’m just trying to understand why the current state of the o-negs would rule out that an OOT restoration has taken place, as Bill firmly believes.
