Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread
Time

From what I got, the idea was that since John jumped forward in time, he jumped over growing up and being there to lead in the war against the machines. Whether it is before or after Kyle got sent back doesn't matter, since in a future without John, Kyle would never be sent back to start with.

I fail to see the paradox here. I think this show has done rather well with the time travel concept actually. I like the idea of new timelines being created, rather than the Back to the Future changing timeline (i.e. Marty starts to disappear when events take place that prevent his parents from hooking up).

Now we have the T2 timeline that goes onto T3

The Sarah Connor Chronicle timeline where they branch off after T2 and time jump past T3. Which was confirmed in the show when we discovered that Jesse came from an alternative future from Derek (perhaps the only good thing the show gained from her character).

Derek was likely from the timeline following T3, and by his returing and altering things, mixed with the many adventure of John and the gang, we ended up with Jesse's timeline.

Now, with John skipping over Judgment Day and not being there to lead, we ultimately end up with a timeline where he never exists (since he cannot send his father back in time to sire him).

For a franchise whose first major plot twist was a HUGE paradox, I think it is doing pretty well with the concept of time travel at this time.

I really hope we get a third season. I don't care who picks it up, I'd be a shame to loose it now, but belonging to Fox, I am pretty sure it is doomed.

Government rarely never gives up power, they usually always just slowly claim more and more.

Fixed.

People are becoming so frightened to death of the evil rich people in the corporate world, they're ready to hand it all over to a much more dangerous entity. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. I am perfectly happy with the evil rich doing as they please, just so long as I am allowed to do as I please. If I decide the gov. should regulate them, then I am saying the gov. should regulate me. It is as simple as that.

Besides, the rich evil people in the corporate world are in bed with the government.

Any time you hear your leader say, Only the government can save us now* and the people agree, you know you're in for one hell of a painful ass raping.

*exact quote, "At this particular moment, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe" which is pure BS. Government is exactly what got us here, and by the looks of things, government is what is going to keep us here. Soooo, lube up, bend over, and try to relax.

The Obama Deception - MUST SEE!

It is my feeling that America has reached her crossroads. Not saying this is the beginning of the decline, but this is the part where we take an exit on the highway without any means of turning back, at least not for a very, very long time.

We are turning down an old road that has been trodden on many times before, and just so long as we are allowed our televisions and our ball games undisturbed, we really don't give a shit where it takes us.

Wow, this stuff sounds retarded. Glad I have never been subjected to any of the prequel EU (beyond the Brooks, Salvatore, and Stover novelizations, if you want to count those as EU).

Jackson did totally suck as Mace Windu. A shame too, he could have made a pretty cool Jedi. If I am not mistaken, he begged George to find him a part in the prequels, in that case, it is not that he was miscast, it is that he was given a part that didn't work for him. Sam is good at the laid back cool badass kind of characters, and George gave him the part of a tight assed authority figure. Whole thing felt forced for him.

Yeah, I also felt the casting on the X-Men films was fantastic. With the exception of Hallie Berry as Storm. They could have done better. I thought the first film was great, but the second one was bent to much in Wolverine's favor, and the third was awful in many ways.

Deadpool seems like a pretty cool character, ashame they didn't treat him right with this film.

I've been reading a few of comic books lately, not any monthly series, but some of the more accessable limited series. Read Origin, the six part series on Wolverine's orgin, I really enjoyed it. House of M and Marvel Zombies are a few others on my reading list. Since we are half way on that subject right now, anybody have any suggestions of stuff that absolutely should not be missed? Deadpool actually sounds kind of interesting.

In defense of Matthew Stover's ROTSs novelization, it is the only form I care to experience that story in. Far better than the film. I don't even remember that line from the book, so it clearly didn't have a big impact on me or bother me that much. I like Stover's Anakin far, far, better than Hayden's Anakin. I don't have a problem with trying to keep up with all the different Anakin personalities, I don't care about the movie, and I don;t care about CW, so Stover's Anakin is really the only Anakin I give a hoot about.

For anyone who hasn't read the ROTS novel yet but plans on it, do yourself a favor and mentally purge your mind of everything you know about the prequels before doing so. Imagine Anakin as someone other than Hayden (like Christian Bale for example), and you may actually find yourself enjoying the story for once. Far from flawless, but as good as ROTS is going to get IMHO, especially if you distance what you are reading from what you have seen on film in every way possible.

I can't help but feel I have just finished watching what will be another sci-fi show ending on a permanent cliff hanger...

Poor show has barely been showing a pulse for the last months, the middle of the season sucked so badly nobody even cared about it. As it was thrown to the depths of Friday nights, things looked pretty grim. Wish they could have just tied it up and ended it. I'd like to be optimistic and think there is a chance for a season three (a season three in the settings of where they left the show could be really cool, actually. I am anxiously awaiting it in that delusional part of my mind), but nomatter how much I stretch my imagination, I just can't imagine it getting renewed. :(

The curse of the sci-fi fan I suppose...

If only I were gay and liked shows like Gray's Anatomy or the typical CW tripe, I'd never have to worry about this sort of thing.

Howard the Duck is finally coming to DVD
Time

Probably because this thread is months out, the DVD has been out for sometime now, and the original topic is no longer relevent.

Why are some people such stricklers that they can't cope with a topic wandering off slightly for a couple of posts?

Anyway, they were talking about other movies by Lucas and their DVD/Blu-ray releases, not their favorite snake foods, so it really isn't that off topic. However, counting in your post and mine, it is pretty far off topic now.

I'd be kind of silly for "standard time" to be based out of a planet that doesn't even exist in their galaxy, wouldn't it?

Ultimately, "basic" would be whatever language YOU speak. The idea is that there is a basic language used throughout the galaxy, obviously it isn't intended to be English, since that is an earth language and therefore from an entirely different galaxy, and developed much, much later (since SW is a long time ago), but as with most sci-fi, it is the convenience of storytelling that makes this language be English. If you were Russian and watching a Russian dub of the films, or translation of the novels, then basic would be Russian.

In other words, even though the story teller doesn't intend for the language to actually be your language, it would be unreasonable for him to invent a fake language, and make you read subtitles for the duration of the film.

Again, we are made to assume.

No matter what, anyone giving a defense to the prequels for anything is forced to read between the lines.

Even if he did give them communicate before hand, which I have no doubt is intended to be the case, it is still kind of dumb they'd just take the baby and say, "Be on your way then." Rather than saying, come on in, would you like a glass a blue milk? Need a place to stay for the night? What ever happen to good ol' Tantooinian hospitality?

I know they were going for brevity, which they accomplished well enough, but the whole thing comes off as rather staged. Reminds me of those reenactments done for documentaries. To me that scene just doesn't work in any kind of way.

Time

I see you point about that clip also being out of context, but it is still really dumb. At least the creators of the trailer for the Voyage home didn't feel the need to use Scotty's "There be whales" and "Hello computer" lines in the trailer. The Voyage Home was a pretty farcical and ridiculous movie to begin with. So was The Final Frontier. Row, Row, Row your boat in that film doesn't bother me too much, because the film as a whole is pretty worthless IMHO. I enjoy The Voyage Home actually, I find it amusing, but it is also one of first ST movies I remember seeing. Had I not been a kid the first times I watched it, and had I been a bigger ST fan by that time, I probably would have felt insulted by it.

"Hello computer" has got to be one of my favorite lines ever from any film (I'm exaggerating a bit). It is one of those things so deeply embedded in my brain that I quote it all the time without even thinking about it. I find myself saying it in a Scottish accent anytime my computer freezes or is going slowly.

Obviously the guy would have never seen an old computer with a mouse in his life, so it stands to reason he wouldn't have a clue how to use it. We are talking about technology that went obsolete a few hundred years before he was born. But that whole scene does come off as rather silly, expecially considering the fact that he finds his way around a qwerty keyboard, clocking in what looks like about 1,000 words per minute, just a few seconds later.

Ah, you are right, TMBTM. Owen's dislike of Jedi, Obi-Wan, etc., was clearly explained in that single abstract gesture.

The scene was ridiculous anyway. This young married couple are out enjoying their favorite past time of starting up at the sky while standing in their backyard, and suddenly out of the darkened desert a strange cloaked and hooded figure riding a retarded looking animal emerges. Instead of the gruff farmer man grabbing his rife and going to see what this cloaked figure wants, he sends his petite and delicate looking little wife to check it out while he continues to stare at the setting suns. The young woman approaches the cloaked and shadowy stranger, and he hands her a bundle of something. Oh! It's a little baby! Mommy was wrong! Babies don't come from storks! They come from shady looking men in cloaks mounted upon stupid looking beast of burden! She turns her back to the shadowy man and runs back to her husband. "Owen, Owen, look! All our efforts in trying various positions has finally paid off! I knew I wasn't barren!" "Beru, what are you talking about? Who was that dangerous looking figure who wandered in from the desert? What's that bundle you're holding?" "Oh... I have no idea who he was... But look! He brought us a baby!" "Oh, that's nice dear. Raise him as soon as you can, I am thinking of letting go of a few of our hired hands and need all the extra help I can get. My word Beru! This sunset is beautiful!"

Howard the Duck is finally coming to DVD
Time

I didn't even realize this was out yet. I was at a friends house examining his extensive Marvel comic movie adaption DVD library, which reminded me of hearing about the official Howard the Duck R1 DVD release. I mentioned it to my friend and he told me it had been out for over a month and that he had already bought it. Sometimes I feel like I live under a rock. :( I need to visit the video store more often and start frequenting some nerdy entertainment news sites.

Ahhhhhhhhh! *C3Px's head explodes*

Reading this whole thing is really annoying. PT information from the OT was pretty scarce. There were only a few plot points scattered throughout the trilogy that had to be taken into consideration while writing the PT, yet most of them were not. Now we seem to rely entirely on the EU and fanboyisms to explain these things. Does that seem right to you?

All Georgie had to do was watch his trilogy of films (or have one of his hired pawns do it for him) with a notebook in hand, and scribble down a quick note of everything that is mentioned about the past. Clearly he didn't do that. This single sheet list of plot points should have been constantly referred to during the writing process, and before the third script was finalized, every point should have had a check mark next to it indicating that it had been addressed or at least unscrewed with.

Just imagine how much different the shape of Star Wars fandom would be today. Even if I still didn't like the movies, even if the acting still sucked and much of the silliness remained intact, it'd be a lot harder to complain about them without any enjoyment hemmoraging plots holes riddling the things.

-Owen thought Obi-Wan was just a crazy old man

-served my father during the clone wars

-father's lightsaber, wanted you to have it when you were old enough

-Anakin was a good friend

etc.

Pretty simple stuff. All it would have taken. As they say, an ounce of prevention...

'Wolverine' takes a leak

Wow, not only is this old news, looks like I am the only one who hasn't seen this.

When I was a kid Spider-Man and Daredevil were the two Marvel characters I'd read. I was never really into X-Men that much, only really knew them through cross-overs. So fortunately, things like Deadpool and Gambit or any other characters that get stomped on won't bother me too badly.

'Wolverine' takes a leak
Time

I guess this is old news by now, but I just heard about it yesterday.

From MSNBC,

LOS ANGELES - “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” isn’t due in theaters until next month, but the prequel has already hacked its way online.

A high-quality, full-length work print of the 20th Century Fox film, which is set for release May 1, appeared online Tuesday. The film focuses on the beginnings of Hugh Jackman’s clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine.

Fox said in a statement Wednesday the version of the film posted online was not complete and vowed that the source would be prosecuted. It said the FBI and MPAA are investigating.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30001026/

Wow, that is really bad. I imagine this might ignite a new spark against filesharing. When the Hulk was released in crap quality a week before its release, I laughed it off. But this! I know it is only a work print, but an entire month in DVD quality! Ouch!

I am fully expecting the film to be considerably worse than X-Men 3, and had no intention of going to see it (where when The Last Stand came out I couldn't wait to go see it opening day. Had that not been the turd it was, I'd probably be excited about this one too), now if this movie bombs at the box office, they have a fantastic excuse for it. :(

LOL, and a guy from Fox News watched the thing and reviewed it on his blog. He even went on and on in amazement about how easier it was, how all the top box office movies were available, and that watching them on the computer was better than getting out in the rain. Idiot.

Ahhh, the internets! Mankind's finest creation.

As Sluggo suggested, the gimer stick must obviously not always been his cane, as it is no refered to.

By unlearning all I have learned, and reading that bit while pretending not to have ever heard the word before, it simply seems to me like Yoda is enjoying a nutritious and possibly delicious little snack while training his new pupil (or as Sluggo suggests, he might be enjoying himself some of the Shire's finest pipeweed).

And Gaffer's post almost caused me to die of suffocation I was laughing so hard.
