Cutting just The Phantom Menace

My feelings on the matter of which is worse, AOTC or ROTS goes like this. AOTC is by far the worst quality of the three, filled with the worst ideas, and the weakest plot. It is a really, really awful movie. I feel that ROTS stands slightly above it on a quality scale, but it is also the home of some of the most pivitol and important parts of the entire SW saga, and all these things, and I mean absolutely every one of them, was pulled off incredibly poorly. To me, this ultimately makes it worse than AOTC. There was more at stake with it, and the loss was greater. Despite the fact that the Clone Wars are suppose to be a huge historical event in the SW universe, the entire movie was essentially filler (as was TPM). Revenge of the Sith was the main event, it was what the previous two films were building up to, and it fell incredibly flat. Beyond flat, actually, I feel it left quite a crater.

Could be wrong, but when Ash mentioned Order 66 being the only good part of the film, I think he was probably referring to the quality of the montage. It was rather nicely done. If I had actually cared the least bit for any of those retards in heavy makeup, it probably would have been a very powerful moment in the film.

So what happened to the reboot of the first evil dead film?

Does Raimi still have what it takes?

Well, I think I read that they discovered there really wasn't that much interest in a remake of the first one. The modern horror movie fans will suck up absolutely anything with very little standards, and Evil Dead fans had no interest in a remake without Ash/Bruce Campbell.

I think Raimi still has a lot of tricks in him. Not all of his stuff has always been good in the past either. I still think the first two Spidey films are near perfect comic book movies. Something went horribly wrong with three (and I mean HORRIBLY!) but it doesn't mean he has lost it, or no longer has what it takes.

I am sorry to hear another two Spidey films are on the way. I think that is unfortunate. Even if three had been fantastic, a fourth and fifth this soon just doesn't sound like it could possibly be a good idea.

And despite the awfulness of "Attack of the Clones" or "Revenge of the Sith", it's the only one of the prequels that got a fan re-edit.

You are very poorly misinformed. All three films have received more fanedits than I could even count.

You and I think very differently on this matter. I for one, absolutely cannot stand AOTC or ROTS. To me they define the words "awful" and "worthless". Yet, I like The Phantom Menace. It feels the most Star Wars-esque to me. Even though I was disappointed with TPM, it left me with hopes for a truly great sequel, and what I got was something unbearable. Perhaps the Phantom Menace did have some of the most offending parts of the trilogy, but it also had some of the greatest. Darth Maul was a pretty cool villian, though horribly underused, and Qui-gon made a fantastic Jedi Master. II and III had really worthless villians, and even more worthless Jedi. At least TPM got that bit right. The space battle, while quite lackluster was, unfortunately, ten times the battle we'd see in any other SW prequel (George got the bright idea to turn battle scenes into toy advertisements, and that kind of closed the deal on making any dogfights that were actually enjoyable to watch).

Duel of the Fates lightsaber fight, say what you will about it seeming very choreographed, certainly it was, but it was also a lot of fun to watch, something I could not honestly say about any other prequel lightsaber duel.

Even for a ground battle, the completely CG Gungan/Battle Droid fight was way ahead of the chaotic video game cutscene that was the battle on the Wookie homeworld, or the unmentionably painful to watch Geonosis Area Battle (love that the Clone Wars were kicked off in a sporting area! Be kind of like WWII having its first battle in Yankee Stadium. Would be brilliant for a comedy! Which I am pretty sure George thought he was writing with the whole ending to AOTC, what with all the humor that ensues once they enter the droid factory, especially with Threepio's head swap, the goofy looking monsters, and Hayden and Natelie's preformance as they are expressing their love to each other right before going to certain death, only for them to turn around and make a huge joke of the whole thing in how easily they escape.

So for me, just thinking of George somehow having lost so much money on TPM, going bankrupt, and never having made the later two prequels makes me feel a whole ot better...

What about EVIL DEAD: A Fistful of Boomstick and EVIL DEAD: Regeneration? Two very great games of which I own on XBOX but play on my 360. I've played alot of Regeneration, barely purchased AFoB, have the EVIL DEAD: Ultimate Edition 3-Disc and Army of Darkness MGM Region 3 NTSC DVD. I'm only missing EVIL DEAD II: Dead by Dawn, baby.

You know, until now, I have only heard negative things about those two games. I am always drawn to them when seeing them on the shelf at Gamespot, but the words of my friends telling me how much they suck echo in my head turning me away from them. Checking online reviews, seems most reviews were not pleased either. I still think I might check them out sometime. So they are both backwards compatible on the 360 then, right?

Gryphon, you know you can pick up copies of Dead by Dawn pretty cheap these days? I saw a used copy for just $8 the other day. If you don't have any decent used DVD stores in your area, I am sure ebay, amazon, or your prefered online vendor of first and second hand goods carries it at a reasonable price. Seem a shame to leave the collection incomplete. ;) Personally, I still feel Dead by Dawn is by far the best of the series.

@Dayv, alright! Sounds like you and I are on the same page with this one. I really hope this gets made.

Not that I speak a word of french but based on that somewhat garbled english translation, I would say that Laurent seems to have mistaken you for Ady.

Well, it wasn't that he mistook his for Ady (or if he did it wasn't without reason). Notice that in doubleofive's sig he is the man responsible for getting collecting all the names (and getting people's real names if they wish to be credited that way) for Ady's credits.

I feel kind of bad for this guy. He obviously doesn't know too much English since he PMed you in French, but seems to be a big SW fan and really impressed with Adywan. I suppose it would be hard to contribute or encourage or even participate in discussion in a language you don't know too well (okay, never mind, I have been in those exact shoes. No supposing here, it sucks).

Hopefully he will be able to participate a bit in the ROTJ:R thread and get his credit in on that one. If you respond to him, you might explain that to him. He can probably read English well enough, he figured out about the credits and that dobleofive was the man to talk to about it.

Wow, I had never actually seen the new opening shot before. It looks absolutely awful. Far, far worse than I imagined it.

The old one has that old time feel to it. The new one looks like something done on photoshop. And again, I must pose the question: Why? It does absolutely nothing to improve the shot. Even the whole "well it is to show that the sun is going down since the film takes place during the course of one night night" explanation doesn't fly. The original shot still looks like it is just a short while before dark.

Nice!

Anyways, I am afraid you will now need to change this,

it is no longer accurate, since some kid in a very cold state is now also Doubleofive. You could change it to something like, "The First of Two" or "The Original" But I am afraid as long as you claim to be "The One and Only", even after admitting yourself that it is no longer true, I will have to write you off as a very dishonest person and never believe another word you say... okay, yeah, I am only kidding.

I had something similar, but yet completely different happen. I have never exclusively used one screen name for everything, but I had an email address I really liked, very official and all that was my first name, followed by my middle and last initial. When gmail came out I immediatly signed up for it and have used it as my exclusive email ever since, but to my complete dismay, my first name, and middle and last initial were already taken, and I had to add a number after it. Very annoying. Numbers are lame. So awkward to have numbers in there. Before I would tell people my email address and they'd get it the first time, now it is like giving out my phone number, "Okay, what were those numbers again? Could you repeat that one last time please. Okay, now let me read it back to you to make sure I got it right. The really bad part is I love gmail so much I could never dream of switching to anything else, but I really hate those damn numbers. If I ever get my hands on the gmail user who share my first name and middle and last initials...

Darth was a brilliant name for a black rabbit. He only lived a few months anyway. He was a really mean bunny, I think my dad might actually have killed him or taken him out into the woods and let him go. I just came home from school one day and they told me Darth was dead. :(

Lol, I have never been huge on pets, I think I said something along the lines of "Awww! What happened to him? Hmmmm... Oh well..." then I probably took off to play on my Nintendo or ride my bike or something and never though of him again for twenty some years, until one fatefull day Shawn of the Deli resurrected this thread. Had I know that one day I'd choose my pornstar name based on the name of that rabbit, I probably would have been more creative. My next rabbit's name was Yoda, he was much friendlier than Darth.

I just remembered hearing about some big blowout and thought you might have been being sarcastic. I always hate to see people stop talking over stupid things, especially when they were good friends before (though I know, and care to know, absolutely nothing about the aforementioned blowout, and can't really say if it was a "stupid thing" or not).

No kidding! Why is with that? Several girls from my past I treated like shit, and they wouldn't leave me alone. Then when I'd be head over heels for one, she wouldn't give me the time of day. You could say it is karma for me not giving these other girls the time of day, but more likely than not it is just an example of how screwed up women really are.

TPM: A Decade Later

Also, perhaps I am a little strange in this way, but I really like my movies to represent the time in which they were made. I never look at a movie and think "My goodness these effects are dated, wish they'd give it an overhaul." I also like to watch a bunch of movies from the exact same year and in the order in which they were released sometimes. Really gives a cool time travel effect if you know what I mean. It is kind of fun to experience a bunch of movies how original audiences experience them and alongside a few other movies they might have experienced that same year. I am sure I could be explaining this better, but hopefully my meaning is coming across. At any rate, when movies are constantly meddled with, it kind of stomps on my parade for things like this.

I agree Hollywood has grown rather stale. I see this movie as representing exactly what is wrong with Hollywood at the moment. Everything is an adaption or a remake of pre-existing and popular stories. Nothing is original. Not pre-judging this fan film or anything, nor making any statement on its quality, I just feel this film is continuing in the rut Hollywood is in, rather than opposing it.

I would like to see it though.

I see it as just plain silly. Meddling just to be meddling. What was wrong with the opening shot the way it was originally? What was wrong with the ugly building behind the diner?

The whole tinker a little here, tinker a little there thing really gets on my nerves. It is a bit obsessive compulsive, don't you think? It is like, "Hey, your hands are clean already! Stop washing them."

I was referring to myself obviously!  And... of course it's real.  Why wouldn't it be?

I know you were refering to youself. I was simple stating how much better I am than you, and why this chick is obviously mental in not noticing me yet. Makes sense she'd ignore you, that is a given.

I know, I cannot believe it myself, Miss bubalove is not an easy chick to impress either. Even me, the incredible C3PX suave, has yet to receive an invitation for love from here.

Dear Sean,

First off, Sean, ah, forgive me I am quite ignorant when it comes to internetlish. I have very strong personal feelings about the abridgment of books; so you can only imagine how I feel about the abridgment of words. I had no idea that "nvm" meant "never mind" until I looked it up just now. I am slowly learning interweb newspeak, be patient with me. In time I will learn to communicate effectively in this dumbed down bastardization of the English language.

Sincerely,

hot.like.C3PX

Dear Gaffertape,

Until further notice I am refusing to offer you advice. Because quite frankly I am insanely jealous that you got a sex-having invitation in your PMs from someone claiming to be a gorgeous woman and all I got was an awkward proposition from someone claiming to be Biff Tannen.

Sincerely,

hot.like.C3PX

P.S. I am a big ice tea fan myself. I usually refrain from water with lemon at restaurants, because I always imagine the outside of the lemons being covered in bacteria from all the hands they pass through before being inadequately rinsed and plopped in my drink.

Dear Bkev,

Would you kindly fuck off? [Pardon my French] This is hot.like.C3PX's advice column last time I checked. Let me check again... yes, it seem it is still hot.like.C3PX's advice column. Are you C3PX? Wait, don't tell me! I'll look into the matter myself... Oh, I just did some research, and it appears that you are not C3PX! You are in fact Bkev. I find it rather odd a fellow named Bkev should be offering advice in my advice column. If this continues, my lawyers will be in touch.

With love and respect,

hot.like.C3PX

EDIT: Okay, I've recovered.

I am having a hard time believing you Gaffer. After the sex-having has taken place, maybe I will believe you.
