In a classic sense, you are confusing "average mean" with "average mode."  Do it again, and I will put you on ignore.  Again.  And don't think I won't do it.

Ah, thank you for explaining. That makes sense now. I will do my best not to repeat this mistake, and I am very grateful to you for having removed me from your ignore list after my previous offenses.

Heheh, this is pretty funny Xhonzi. I was just checking who has me on their ignore list for kicks, and discovered Darth Lars put me on ignore. :D

My misunderstanding of his statment, or my dissing of the precious "canon" (if he happens to be one of those types) must have offended him. Glad you didn't ignore me too, or I would have earned a place on two user's ignore list with one post.

Irregular sequels and spiritual sequels?
Time

Also of use here would be the Evil Dead --> Army of Darkness movies.  Evil Dead 1 was a fairly straight, if a little quirky, horror flick.  Evil Dead 2 was a reboot with a lot more silly thrown in.  And Army of Darkness was pretty much a comedy first and a horror (?  Mideavil fantasy?) film last.

Can you help me come up with others?

Irregular
----------------
Alien -> Aliens
Evil Dead -> Army of Darkness
Flash Back -> Fade to Black (video game)

Spiritual Sequels
-----------------------
Final Fantasy Series
System Shock -> BioShock
Blade Runner -> Soldier (screenwriters called it a "Sidequel")

Evil Dead II was more of a full on sequel with a very long recap, than it was an actual reboot. They didn't have rights to footage from the first film, so they refilmed the whole story in extremely abridged form and with fewer actors to save money. In one of the commentaries, Sam Raimi said that you could technically cut the recaps out of each film and edit them together into one long unbroken story. I have often thought about doing this, the only jarring thing would be how quickly Ash would age over that one night that takes place before he gets sent back in time. But yeah, the genre definitely changes.

Another one to add to the video games part are the PS2 games Ico and The Shadow of the Colossus, the later being a spiritual sequel of the former.

Why does it matter if it is considered canon or not? If you enjoyed it, then it wasn't a waste of time and brain space.

Sometimes I think some of you guys forget that NONE of this stuff EVER happened. It is all made up anyway. What difference does it make if Lucas' lackeys tell you it did or didn't happen? All that matters is what you enjoy it.

I do find the idea that if something is 'real' has some bearing on its quality to be confusing.

Then perhaps you misunderstood the point of my post? Or perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say now? Either way, I will try to clarify.

I was merely stating that this whole "canon" business is more than just a little bit silly, considering it is all just a bunch of made up stories anyway. I think it makes more sense to enjoy what you enjoy, and don't give a bother about the rest or what other people, whether they be fellow fans or GL himself, have to say about the matter.

This was in response to the previous poster bemoaning the fact that they wasted "time" and "brain space" reading all this EU, only to later be told that it never really took place in this fictional universe.

I guess I just really have a hard time seeing the significance of whether or not a fictional story is considered "canon" of a fictional universe or not. Though Zombie made a good point about it making it hard to suspend disbelieve with things like Boba Fett's backstory and other aspects of the galaxy constantly changing; for some reason I just really have a hard time caring about it at all. All that matters to me is my own enjoyment of the book I am reading.

Sometimes I think some of you guys forget that NONE of this stuff EVER happened. It is all made up anyway. What difference does it make if Lucas' lackeys tell you it did or didn't happen? All that matters is what you enjoy it. No one should feel obligated to read, watch, or play anything that they don't enjoy just because, by golly, it is Star Wars! Who cares what the Lucas machine says is or isn't canon. Why does it matter? It is all such a silly tangled mess anyway. The EU has always been about making money, and excluding things from canon isn't really a very good way to sell them, is it? So of course they will do whatever they have to in order to include it all. Notice how all the stuff that isn't canon has been long out of print? It is no longer making money, and it is so far out of line with everything else it isn't worth their effort to figure out ways to try to convince the average TF.N or SW.com frequenter that it really happened in their beloved fantasy universe.

I was relatively young when the 90's EU flood hit, and there is some of it I enjoyed then and look back on nostalgically that I probably wouldn't have liked at all if I read it for the first time now.

I couldn't care less about anything that has come out bearing the Star Wars name over the last ten years, but I did appreciate having EU back in the days when I was young and couldn't quite get my fill of the series. Even back then I realized that much of it was silly and understood that it was nowhere near the quality of the films, but I had a good time reading it and enjoyed exploring other corners of that galaxy that would have otherwise only have been possible by means of my own imagination.

dark angels second season was garbage

Dark Angel's second season was considerably better than season 1.

Season one was pretty worthless, but at least somewhat interesting; I liked the setting and plot, and Jessica Alba was kind of fun to look at regardless of the fact that she couldn't act. Season two was just a ridiculous waste of time. Genetically enhanced escaped children is one thing, but streets filled with retarded looking animal people was just plain lame... not to mention the introduction of a character so pointless and obnoxious that he actually rivals Jar Jar Binks.

Hehe, thought it was kind of funny Dances with Wolves got mentioned in this thread; with South Park's Avatar parody being titled Dances with Smurfs.

Very true Zombie, I have never felt the mission of this site was completed. I guess enough people were satisfied with the LD transfer bonus feature that Jay decided not to mess with it anymore. And I guess maybe there was fear that after having this petition out for years and years, and finally receiving a response (even though it was in the twilight of the DVD), that turning around and saying "Okay, now that we got that... NEW PETITION! We want it on BLU-RAY now!" would have made us sound like a bunch of discontent brats, which is what we often seem considered to be throughout SW internet fandom.

Interesting little story, I was at the store the other day picking up some last minute things for Thanksgiving and decided to swing by the movie section to see if there were any decent pre-Black Friday deals. "Excuse me sir." said an older woman who was standing nearby, "did you ever get into that Star Wars stuff?" Suppressing a grin and wondering how out of all the other customers around she had managed to pick me for this quesion, I responded "Yeah, I loved it when I was a kid."

"Ah good. I have a grandson who is only eight, he is a bit of a jock and has never really been into this kind of thing, but lately he has been showing a bit of interest. I know there is some newer stuff made more recently but it just doesn't look all that interesting to me. What I am looking for are those older movies, are these them?" She held out a copy of the most recently released box set containing episodes IV, V, and VI.

"Yeah, those are the ones made in the 70's and 80's, they're definitely the ones you want, the newer ones really aren't even worth bothering about."

She asked me a few more questions, including whether or not they were on Blu-ray yet. Kind of a funny random encounter. To me this really helps indicate what a higher status the original trilogy holds over all this new garbage that bares the same name. Even this 60 year old grandma who didn't even know enough about the movies to recognize them by their title was concerned with making sure she got the good ones for her grandson.

The best remedy for scratched discs I have discovered, is to rip the disc to your computer (PC DVD-ROM drives, from my experience, seem to handle scratches better than regular DVD players and usually have no problem copying an entire disc that a regular DVD player might have a hard time with.) and burn it to a blank DVD-/+R. I've been using this method since the I got my first CD burner with regular old music CDs. I usually just toss the recorded DVD into a white sleeve and tuck it in behind the DVD's booklet/chapter listing sheet. Of course, that is far less than ideal.

Have you perhaps tried contacting the actual manufacturer of the product to compain about their retail packaging failing to protect the discs and resulting in damaging your product? There is a chance they'll offer to send you a replacement disc, especially if it is happening in large numbers and they are recieveing numerous complants.

When Halo 3 came out the fancy special edition packaging proved faulty and allowed the discs to come dislodged during shipping resulting in many discs scratched beyond use, so the manufacturer set up a replacement program. It is worth at least trying to zip them an email. You have nothing to lose at any rate.

Depends on the job. I'd have no problem leaving out the fact that I have an Associates degree if I were applying at a place like Wal-Mart or some other store clerk or lower level type job. They probably never would find out, they process so much paper work I can't imagine they'd bother to check. If they do find out and ask about it, playing dumb goes a long ways in this world. A simple, "Oh, did I not fill that information in? I'm sorry, yeah I have an Associates in..." should be more than enough to save face. If they somehow find out after they hire you, I highly doubt they'd see it as a reason to fire you. It really isn't at all fair to turn someone down for a job simply because they have a degree. If they are willing to work below their abilities for less money then they ought to have just as much chances of scoring that job as anyone else.

I am not talking about one year experience kind of overqualified, I don't think that would do it, seems like they would appreciate that. But it seems a lot of employeers looking to hire employees with a high school diploma seem to shy away from applicants who have their Bachelors or Masters degrees; even though there are plenty of guys out there that do have their degrees who are desperate for work and more than willing to work at those kind of low level jobs.

hmm, perhaps it was the fact that they were looking for people with a high school diploma and I have an associates degree?

Yeah, if you are applying for a job that only requires a high school diploma, try not mentioning your associates and see what happens. I bet you'll get more call backs.

This is one of the greatest and most amusing things I have ever read! I am now more proud than ever to be a member of originaltrilogy.com!

"The site is also notorious for its handful of extremely vulgar and disrespectful members, who enjoy tormenting sensitive people and people who disagree with them and running them off the site, and its corrupt moderator, Moth3r, who abuses his power and encourages all the offensive behavior on the site. Such victims of these actions are Warbler, Adamwankenobi, ZigFried, and many others.

Several complaints about Originaltrilogy.com were sent to the Internet Police Corporation known as ICANN, and they are currently looking into either cleaning up the site's dirty act, or simply shutting it down."

I am very curious as to who wrote this. Seems like it was written by the very sort who would put me on their ignore list. Or maybe is was one of those damn orcs from a few years back...

So, just out of curiousity, can someone please explain to me how these ICANN jokers would have the ability to clean up our "dirty act" (makes it sound like we are in the porn business) or shut us down? Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

I am happily employed at the moment, but during my short two month or so long stint of unemployment earlier this year, where I found myself desperate for any job whatsoever, I discovered being over qualified seems to be just as bad, if not worse, than being under qualified. I made it into an interview for a low level job I was hoping would tide me over until something real came along, only to be told flat out that they wont hire me because they had no assurance they wouldn't go through the trouble of training me only to have me find a better job and quit shortly after.

One of my buddies is currently having that same problem. Even Burger King, at which he had previous manager experience, wouldn't hire him despite the "help wanted" sign still being on their door a month and a half after they turned him down.

Fun job climate we are currently experiencing, eh?

Guess I am not all that big into vampiric fiction, so I haven't run across any of what you are talking about. Other than anthropological works containing deep studies into vampirism and its origins, the last time I read or watched anything having to do with vampires was back in high school when the first seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all of its Sarah Michelle Gellar goodness where airing on TV; and most vampire lore strictlers tend to shun that show. I guess those vimpire romance/porn novels (Twilight and its hoards of clones) are a pretty big thing these days, but I personally think all that is a sad waste of the vampire mythos (not to say that Buffy wasn't).

Was Yoda crazy?
Time

I think it is made very clear in that scene that he was testing Luke. As SilverWook pointed out, as soon as Luke lost his patience, Yoda straightened up and announces that he is unteachable.

If Luke had known the silly little green muppet in the swamp was the great Jedi master Yoda he had been searching for all along, then he would have treated him very differently. By pretending to be a crazy lowlife, Yoda was able to learn a lot more about Luke's true character.
