Hey, who ya calling creepy? I resent that. I personally find white Star Wars fans much less creepy than those of other races. I mean, those other races have their own little quirks and things, the nerdy science fiction fan (I mean "White and Nerdy"? Says it all doesn't it?) belongs to the white race. Not saying other races can't be fans of science fiction or Star Wars, but just saying that for a black guy to take being a nerd to the level whites guys do, would be just as silly as the white guy who thinks he is a rapper.

Now that I have probably offended just about everybody I think it is about time I stopped typing.

EDIT: Hey, what do you know, my 800th post.

I am not sure what it is we have read. And I am not sure what advice we should listen to, I am not sure why we care if you get the hell out, it is your choice man. I think this may very well be the first post I have read of yours and it is an "I'm leaving" thread, so I am not sure how much I would miss you if you did go. Also I think the only connection to the MPAA anyone needs is 1-800-stoppiracy. How does this doom us exactly???

I still have a hard time imagining anybody playing Kirk and Spock. Also Ferris, I am not sure how merrit I would give to this because it has the blessing of Shatner and Nimoy, have you seen them in any good priceline commercials lately?? Or any of the books they have written? Not the highest standards. Oh well. Anyway, yeah, I have a hard time imagining anybody else playing those to characters. This isn't like Superman or Batman or Bond who have been played by countless (yes, I exaggerate) different actors. As far as I have always been concerned Shatner IS James T. Kirk and Nimoy IS Spock. Any other actor playing them just isn't them. Just like any other actor playing Luke or Han just wouldn't be right. A reboot of the series I ldo like the idea, but this is still in a way be a prequel as it is about Kirk and Spocks past.

What I think would have been really cool for a reboot of the series would have been to go with Captain Christopher Pike. He is already an established character, but so little is known about him it doesn't matter. They could do pretty much anything they wanted with him. He doesn't even have a reputation as a Captain (i.e. Kirk being a flirtatious sleaze, or Capt. "I am going to go listen to some Mozart, read some Charles Dickens, and sip some Earl Grey tea" Picard) so they could still develope his character as they wanted. And whatever actor you get to play him would fit because there isn't a set standard to live up to. Even inventing a new capt. and crew could be interesting.

If they are truly trying to appeal to a wider audience as they claim, then why use old favorites when they won't be the old favorites of that wider audience? Star Trek fans are going to go see this one way or another, so you know it is not for their sake. Most ST fan will probably hate the new actors portraying these legendary characters anyway, so even more evidence it is not for their benefit.

What? They killed off a comic book super hero! I cannot believe this. This is as shocking as if they were to kill off Superman. Or if they were to have Bane break Batman's back! Just unimaginable. Isn't Civil War kind of an alternative marvel universe (like House of M)? Probably I am wrong on this. I guess I got that impression from the fact that Spidey is still really young when he does his reveal and he was 15 years old way back in the 60s. That would make him a pretty aged by the Civil War comic era.

Not sure if there was already a thread for this or not, but this new info from IGN today I figured why not start a new one anyway.

http://movies.ign.com/articles/771/771425p1.html

So, it is going to be a reboot rather than a prequel. I am not sure what to think about it. I have always had a slight fondness for Star Trek, wouldn't consider myself a real "fan" though. My thoughts is that with Star Trek there really isn't a way to ruin it. It is already such a tangled mess. It would be like ruining the EU of Star Wars. Just isn't possible. When I heard it would be a prequel I groaned. Now it is a reboot... interesting. A reboot featuring Kirk and Spock... I fill the urge to groan again. However, either way it has me curious. I was very skeptical about the Bond "reboot" and I ended up loving it. Of course on the other hand I was very excited about the Superman reboot and... well, I am still not ready to talk about that yet.

I watched it too. It got me more excited about the movie. So excited I went to recheck the release date so I could start counting down, I had thought it was not coming until July and was happy to see it comes two whole months sooner than I thought.

That goblin scene did look a little odd. I think it is the special effects that give it that feel. I was surprised they gave away what seems like such an important scene in the movie. However if what they lead us to believe happens at the end of that fight really happens and if this is the first and last goblin scene in the movie, then they really seem to be just trying to get the whole goblin story line out the way.

There was one cool C64 game called Nightmare Park. It was a mixture of text adventure and action. There is a part where you get chanced by a stampede of rhinos (I think, might have been unicorns though) and all these ? "Y" come pracing down the screen and you have to dodge them.

Good stuff. It is funny to look at the games that use to be the latest and greatest and see how they look by todays standards. I still have a commodore 64 in my garage and it still works, but it doesn't have any thing with it. It is just a keyboard/CPU with a TV jack, pretty useless when you can't load anything on it. I keep it for historical reasons.

She doesn't go to the "other sight" any more? Or has that gone to pants since Dayv left?

EDIT: I wish this thing would get to be another page long so that fat woman in the swimmingsuit wouldn't be the first thing on that page. That sly look on her face really wigs me out. I would edit my post and delete her, but then this would be sort of a Special Edition of the hot.like.C3PX thread and not the unaltered version.

There is nothing quite like beating an arcade game with your friends when you are a kid. It is more than just a challenge, it is your savings. The feeling of victory when you reach the end is unexplainable. And that disheartening feeling of defeat as the "continue?" timer counts down and none of you have any quarters left...

You are never going get a good sample. There are a good deal of members who only show up once in a while, and there are a good number who never even come to the off topic.

You know it is going to be a huge pool of white males ranging from early teen years to their 50s with a few others thrown in. Even with a bigger pool, I am not sure how accurate we could be. Also you have to rely on the honesty of the posters, and that is not a sure thing.

I know it isn't an "over there" problem, I wrote the last post quickly and was refering to where it is most focused. It is "over there" that you have leaders and groups who try to fulfull Islamic end time prophecy. I know this seaps out into all parts of the world, don't misunderstand the point of my post. I just meant to say it is not so much a matter of hate, or rather that the hate has a purpose. Some people have a hard time believeing that a group could hate another group so much for no reason, I think it would be good for them to know that there IS a reason. Even if there are large quantities of peace loving Muslims, the fact remains that the Qur'an teaches some not so peace loving things. It blantantly says that Jews and believers in Christ deserve to sword.

Poor guy, he is like that compulsive liar we all knew as a kid. He is always telling you he has these super cool idems, but something always comes up which prevents you from laying eyes on them. Everytime you say, "Oh, I would love to have that game" they tell you they have it, when you say wow, I want to see it, they say sure, next time you come over. Inevitably the next time you go to their house they will say their older brother lost it or something equally lame.

George Lucas reminds me of an adult version of this. "So do you plan on any more sequels?"
"Yes, I have a treatment written for a nine episode saga"
"You misunderstood me, I only ever intended to do six film, three really good one and three really crappy ones."
"So, about those original movies, you know the ones that are not the special editions?"
"Oh, those, I am sorry my brother lost them so they don't exist anymore."
"I see those original films are on DVD now, I thought you lost them?"
"Oh, yeah I found them, but this LD is the best quality they will ever be in, but nobody wants them anyway. They suck. LD quality is plenty for people who like to watch films with crappy quality 70s special effects. Those kind of people don't really have eyes."

Some say the one that crashed in PA was shot down by the government. That is an interesting thought and perhaps the most possible of any conspiracies I have heard, but I think there would have been glaring evidence of this at the crash sight. I certianly have not looked at the evidence for this and I definately don't believe this was the case, but it is interesting to think that if the government knew the plan was heading for an important target, would they find it neccessary to take down a passenger plan.

"9/11 happened for one reason, and one reason only. Radical Islamic Fundamentalists hate Americans with a seething passion."

More than hate really, most people would be amazed how much it has to do with Muslim eschatology. As much as we want to consider religion as merely a side activity and not a deeper part of our lives, this is not the case over there. Over there religion is an aspect that is very active in their lives and dictates the way their lives play out. So much more than hate is in the picture, or perhaps it is better to say that hate is based on something deeper, their religion. You can get free Korans sent right to your door, I wish more people would do that. It is a very interesting read, very enlightening.

Huh, I wonder if we really have a black female around. Out of all the SW fans I have known, I am pretty sure I have never known a black female one. It is a fanbase that seems to be pretty much occupied by nerdy white males. Especially with the general type of conversation that goes on here I cannot help but think perhaps somebody clicked that one for fun.

Why do so many people think there has to be some sort of conspiracy? Is it so hard for us to believe people from another part of the world would do something like this, yet it is expected from our own government? I was hoping this topic would take off a little more, I would have liked to have heard some more opinions on this. Anybody else think there was a conspiracy invovled? Or at least that there was more going on that we know about?

The riff for The Fellowship of the Ring is much better structured than TPM. I consider FOTR a good movie, much better than TPM and I enjoyed all three hours of the riff. I did finally finish TPM, it did pick up towards the end. It was mostly from the end of the race to the point they headed back to Naboo that was boring. Followship of the Ring feels much more like an episode of MST3K.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed?
Time
Okay then, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Dark Forces. Pretty much all games that were made during the span of time between 1983 and 1995 were worth playing. Those all fit the "rock" category better than they fit the "suck" category. There were a few let downs like Rebel Assault but even that one had its moments. I enjoyed when it first came out. Back then the Star Wars name was not as big of a selling point as it is now, not to say it was not a selling point. The big SW revival started in the mid nineties, before that you did not have hoards of EU books or a million choices between what version of SW you would like to watch today. There were three of them. Back then if a game came out with "Star Wars" printed above the title it was definitely worth checking out. Those were also the days when LucasArts made more than just SW games. In fact, back in those days if it had "LucasGames" or "LucasArts" printed on the box it was worth checking out. They use to be a great gaming company that didn't release games that suck, their games were mediocre at the absolute worse and outright brilliant more often than not. It is sad to see the current state of things. But as long as people buy games for the "wow" factor, which will be the selling point for Force Unleashed, I don't see things changing much.
