I'd say the chance of pregnancy is pretty high when alcohol is involved. When your totally pissed and going at it, getting up and grabbing a condom is usually the last thing on your mind.

Fink, have you watched any of Tim's videos with him in them? If not I think you should do so, then lay off of him. After all, you seem to be one who is rather sensitive about that sort of thing. You gave Chaz Solo quite the what for over his use of a certain word that could be used to describe Tim, which I agreed with you for.

I love the idea of continually getting new levels through DLC for the L4Ds, but I also hate feeling like I am being nickle and dimed to death. They are only $7 a piece so far, but seeing as how they are given away for free to PC users, I'd think 400 ms points ($5) or less would be more appropriate. It is already bad enough that we have to pay for them, but I can look passed that because I think they are worth it and I'd rather be playing on my xbox than a PC. But what really rubs me the wrong way is not only having to pay for what PC users get for free, but that they also make them an odd price and only sell msp in even numbers (400, 800, 1200, etc. And most games you can purchase on arcade and most DLC are priced to match these numbers, except for L4D's. In order to dish out the 540 msp (I think that is how much they are) you have to buy 800 msp ($10) leaving an orphaned 260 points you didn't even want to spend money on that are now just floating around on your account, tempting you to spend it on crap you don't need... like eye patches for your avatar, or Lando's administrative outfit.

Well, Leonardo, I guess it is time you and I had a talk. You see, when a man loves a woman and he... well, what I mean to say is that when they get together and they... um... he puts his... err... and they... well... uh...

Well, let's put it this way, you remember all that business your mother told you about storks and babies? Well, it is time for you to unlearn all you have learned...

Perhaps I am attributing some of Mr. and Mrs. 005's excitement to you.  My local friend who also bought a copy of L4D2 said he played a little more on his own and is starting to be of the opinion that 2 is "orders of magnitude" better, just like a lot of those people on the internet.

Maybe I just need to play more.  And to stop attributing things to C3PX that he didn't say.

Well, don't get me wrong, I expressed a lot of excitement for L4D2. And I remember putting quite a lot of pressure on you to buy it. I excitedly bought it on day one, and have clocked more hours on it this year than any other game by far, I am sure. I absolutely love that game, and still feel all tingly inside when I think about it... err, so yeah... it is an awesome game. I am not putting it down so much as I am building up the first one.

The fact is the first one is a really, really good game. And the second on is a really, really good game, with some really neat features the first one didn't have. Kind of weird, seems like since Valve decided to make L4D so soon after the release of the first one, there has been a bit of a rift in the L4D community. On one side you have fans who whined about the second game coming out too soon and what a terrible thing it was Valve was doing to them and that they felt cheated and screwed over and so on; then on the other side you had guys who had played a lot of the first one and loved it to death and were really excited about the sequel. Ultimately, you ended up with one side standing firm in putting down the second and saying, "See, it is pointless and just like the first!" and the other side touting that the second one is light years better than the original. I really don't fall into either group. I was excited about the sequel and never for a second felt cheated by its announcement, and I never felt the sequel to be justification for tossing out the first one and never playing it again.

As for playing L4D on Friday or Saturday evening, I think one day will work as well for me as another for me. However, my plans are subject to change at the last minute. I'll plan to be there, but there is probably about a 50% chance that something else will come up on either night.

What the frink, man?  I thought getting together soon was you're idea?!?!?

I know, I know, I just can't help it if I am THAT cool and have so many people demanding my attention on a regular basis. But whatever day we decide, I am going to try my best to blow off all offers and spend my weekend at home playing video games with you guys. See, I love you guys that much! However, there are a few people in the world, one in particular (no, sadly, not Gaffer) who I love just slightly more... and they get first dibs on my weekend evenings.

One of the reasons I hunkered down and bought L4D2 was on your recommendation that it was, and I loosely quote from my faulty memory, "So much better."  So I'm a little upset to see you reverse your opinion here.  But maybe I'm just remembering wrong...

Hmm, I am pretty sure I never said it was "so much better". Even from the beginning, I felt the first game was still way worth going back to. I feel things like the melee weapons and many of the new maps made the second game well worth getting. I did highly recommend it to you, and stand by that recommendation, but I have not ever flip flopped or reversed my opinion on this matter. I have felt this same way from the first week L4D2 was released.

never used the mic before, so im a bit nervous about talking to complete strangers! but you said it was good so gotta find out!

I am not all that chatty of a person, so I usually just leave my mic on mute. That way I can still remain part of a group and hear what the plans are and people calling for help. If I get into trouble and my teams seems oblivious, I'll just switch the mute button off, say "Smoker" or "I'm down" or announce whatever mess I am in, then click the mute back on.

Sometimes I will feel more like interacting and will join in on the strategical process, just depends on the mood I am in and the people I am playing with. Sometimes you find some really interesting people who are a lot of fun to talk to. Others will be absolutely determined to have a conversation and in order not to seem rude I will join them for some idle chit chat. It is a pretty mixed bag, which is what makes it so much fun. It is kind of fun being thrown in with total stangers and being forced to work together to survive.

For those that have played both, how does the second L4D compare to the first? - I'm considering getting them since they've suddenly become very cheap.

Had that discussion just one page back, look for posts by me and xhonzi.

We talked about the differences and what we liked about each, but for me the bottom line was that I would highly recommend both. The first one pulled off some things better than the second, and the second added some really nifty stuff. Really, by owning both it just means you have more levels to choose from.

If you do buy both, I'd recommend starting in the first level of the first campaign of the first game, and working yourself through the whole thing in order.* I'd also recommend playing it online with stranger or with friends, playing with live players is where the game really shines. I originally tried to get into the thing with a typical story based FPS in mind, and was really disappointed with what seemed like a really shallow and short game. Since I gave it a second chance and decided to buy a mic and play online with real people, it has quickly became one of my all time favorite games, and what once seemed to me as a short and fairly unenjoyable game suddenly became the game I find with the most replay value out of any game I have ever played in my life.

*I recommend playing it in order not for story line reasons, as there really isn't much in the game by way of story (it is more about setting and atmosphere), but rather so that you are introduced to and become adjusted to the game play mechanics in a natural order. I would be afraid that if you played part two first, it may rob you of some enjoyment of the first game on account of certain features being missing. Once you get use to those features it can be slightly irksome to do without them. If you begin with part two and become used to utilizing those new features from the start, it may be hard to step back and learn how to get by without them. However, if you start out without them and play through One, then go onto Two, and eventually revisit one, you will still have the proper skills to play and enjoy the game without those new additions found in Two.

Just remember, excuses will never get you anywhere. Progress takes action. Even short fat guys find women, but like ever other guy, they have to actually put out a bit of effort.

I've hijacked this poor topic for far too many posts.

Watched Army of Darkness the other night, been a while since I had seen it. Ridgeshark's Primitive Screwhead edit is fantastic, forgotten what a great job he had done.

Insanely insensitive and irritating, but yes, it's a stretch to compare them to people who are (presumably) guilty of an executable crime.

Hmm...

While I know neither of you are actually really suggesting Fred Phelps or his likes be given the death penalty, this subject is something I find interesting and is a road of thought I wouldn't mind exploring... unfortunately, things have been rather volatile when it comes to any sort of opinions on damn near anything lately (I swear this place is about to collapse on itself), so I am hesitant to even attempt to do so.

But, telling my hesitations to take a hike, I do find it interesting that, in general not specifically here, it seems the very sort who strongly oppose the death penalty for, say, serial rapist and murderers, are often the very sort who are quick to say that we'd be better off if guys like Fred Phelps, or various other "Christian bigots" or "hate mongers" were to be executed.

Seems that the deep seated belief that all people are inherantly good and capable of rehabilitation (even when their kicks are getting off inside of someones disembodied neck cavity...) only goes as deep as their judgments on others. i.e. it almost (almost) seems as if I would be considered a person more worthy of death and less worthy of rehabilitation if I went around telling people (to be unnessecarily graphic) that my imaginary entity hated them because they liked to stick their penis in other men's anuses (or have penises stuck in their anus) than I would be if I myself had a fondness for killing people and then sticking my penis in all sorts of crazy places.

One of those two above examples makes me a sick individual in serious need of help (and love and the opportunity to be a better person), while the other makes me a very hateful individual whom the world would be a better place without.

Does anyone here actually have the set and looked at it while watching it?I have it and will be watching it soon,I just have a hard time buying that it looks like crap and that the DVD's and HD broadcasts are better, but again I have the set, bought it on release day,but have NOT watched it yet.

I am just curious if this whole thread is about you guys speculating on something you don't even have or watched.

This is why DNR will continue to be applied liberally to all BD releases, because the general masses have this sort of opinion and find those who actually give a damn to be needlessly complaining. After all, who cares, they still look good enough. Yeah, maybe they do look good enough, but the fact remains that what is being done to "ruin" them is being done intentionally by studios. Why should we sit back and accept it for the sake of the happiness of those who don't really give a shit about how the studios tinker with them anyway?

But don't mind me, I am just spewing hatred. ;)

he maybe right, but right now I think finding a job needs to be the first priority.  I also need to diet and exercise.   Once I have job and am in shape, then I will pursue a girlfriend.

I have always been a hopeless procrastinator. Absolutely awful. Has made my life difficult and gotten me into trouble on so many things. My mom use to always tell me, "Tomorrow never comes, and later is never here" everytime I told her something like "Don't worry I'll do it tomorrow" or "I'll take care of it in a few minutes". She was usually right, I'd forget to do it tomorrow, then I'd get in trouble.

Anyway, with that list of things to do before you even attempt to start dating, all I can say is good luck. But in all honesty, that list of yours tells me that you are not going to be going on any dates anytime soon, or likely ever. There will always be some excuse. Some buffer protecting you from what you are scared to do.

Maybe if you met a girl you really liked, you'd feel more motivated to get a job or get in shape. I am probably wrong, but I have a feeling that you are not even actively trying to get in shape at the moment, and that it is something you intend to get started on really soon. Tomorrow never comes, and really soon is never here.

Just a thought.

Also, on a minor note, you may often notice really big guys married to really gorgeous and in shape women. That is because a lot of women put other qualities above looks in their search for potential mates. Not saying you shouldn't try to look your best, but feel assured the right girl is going to like you regardless of you being out of shape. Also, take a look at the current unemployment rate? Do you think all those people put their lives on hold and stop trying to find love just because they are unemployed? Not trying to be pushy, just trying to encourage you, there is honestly no reason you couldn't/shouldn't be dating right now.

Yes, mistakes (of this sort) are fun. Make them while your young. You'll regret it if you don't. It is worth a shot at least. I like you attitude with the whole, it is about time I did something. Don't be a coward, just go for it. You'll be a happier person.

I'm a little ticked/glad (is that possible?) to hear you say that.  I've only played the first scene and the start of the second in L4D2 (and the demo level) and I have to say that I wasn't blown away in any way by L4D2 when compared to L4D1.

You said it in your post, but I it- I do like the variation in the finales so far... but with all of their variation, they seem to be less epic than the big finales of L4D1.

...

But if I had to choose the 4 in L4D versus the 4 new ones in L4D2, I think I'd stick with the original ones.

I thought you said you bought L4D2? I am surprised to hear you have as of yet still only played the demo. We need to play sometime. I temporarily have a lot more free time now.

I couldn't quite find the words to describe the way the L4D1 finales compared to the L4D2 finales, you used the word "less epic" and that is exactly what I felt about them. The L4D2 finales were just as hard and just as big of a deal, but somehow the first ones felt really climactic, and the second ones not so much.

When you say the 4 in L4D o versus the 4 new ones, I have to assume you either mean levels or survivors. There are actually five levels in L4D2, so I imagine you mean survivor characters. If that is what you meant, I really agree. There is no character I really care that much for in L4D2, and none of them seem likely to be the sort to survive the zombie apocalypse.

In L4D1 we have:

a muscular biker

an old war veteran

a officer worker who happens to be a survival/outdoors enthusiast

and a college age video game fanatic

All the above seem likely enough to survive by their own means long enough to run into other survivors to team up with.

In L4D2 we have:

a dirt stupid mechanic

an overweight football coach

a news reporter

and a con man

I guess the con man is likely enough, the news reporter is believable but unlikely, and the other two just make no sense at all. Especially the mechanic. The group just doesn't work as well to me as the classic group.

Aww my bad! it is the sequel ur talking about :(

No, your question was valid, I was talking about the first game. Yeah, there is a new DLC planned for it. Remember, L4D2 was released exactly one year after L4D1. So L4D1 is still less than two years old, and certainly still worthy of new DLC.

It is fun because the recent L4D2 DLC (well worth the money) featured the characters from the first game assisting you. The new upcoming DLC for the first game will cover the events leading up to the events in the L4D2 DLC. So it is pretty nifty how they tie the two games together.

Now if only they would include a melee update for L4D one with this new DLC...

Completed is probably too strong of a word to use here. I have all the achievements in the game, I am can say I have yet to complete it. There are still a lot of minor quests and storylines I have not done. The DLC add a lot to the game as well. But yeah, if you don't like the whole talking to people thing or the VATs combat style, then it just isn't your thing.

The latest patch was supposed to fix exactly that.

Awww, that sucks... I've had fun with that one.

Good to hear they improved the AI, I haven't tried playing it by myself for a really long time. I am really looking forward to the DLC for the first game, hope it comes out sometime this year.

was gonna get the original Left 4 dead as well but from what i've read 2 is the new improved version.

Hmm, I actually still like the first Left 4 Dead a lot more than the second one. Well, actually, I kind of take the whole thing as a package deal and somewhat consider them one game in my mind. So it just depends on what level I am in the mood to play rather then what game I am in the mood to play that dictates which game I put in my console. The only thing that really sets one apart from the other to me is the lack of melee weapons in the original. It is hard to play the second one, then go back to the first one and not have them anymore.

I actually liked a lot of the dynamics as well as the finales from the first game better than those of the second. The second is nice because they mixed things up a bit more, rather than fighting off an onslaught while waiting for a rescue vehicle to arrive every finale in the first game, you get to do things like collect gas cans to fuel up an escape vehicle in the second, or run across a zombie infested bridge as fast as you can to get to the escape vehicle on the other side. But ultimately, I still find myself going back to the original game's finales and being surprised over and over again how much better they "work" than those of the second game. They just have a certain feel to them and are fun and challenging at once. The L4D2 finales just don't have that same charm to them. To me personally, they often feel more like a chore than a challenge.

I also like the team mate AI far better in the first game, where they are usually quick to come to your aid, in the second the characters have a tendency to stare at you as you are being strangled/mauled by a special infected.
