This is not a photoshop job, this is the actual official Topps C-3PO trading card from 1977. Not sure exactly what happened here, but it doesn't take more than one look at this thing to realize something is... uh... yeah. I was reading about it the other day and it turns out that so many people made a fuss about it that Topps actually reissued the card with the offending, uh, object airbrushed out. This thing is almost on par with the 3PO tape despenser.
Any first time visitors to this thread, be sure to check out the first couple of links on page one, they are worth paying a quick visit.

Hmm, that just isn't right. The Last Starfighter gets a nice HD release, remastered no doubt, and the best proper version of Star Wars available in a non-anamorphic special feature... yeah, I shouldn't have brought this up, just struck me that is all...

When replying to a thread there is a "Subscribe to this Thread" check box under the "Reply to Thread" "Preview" "Attach Code" and "Cancel" buttons. Are the emails you are recieveing about thread subscriptions? If that is the case then every time somebody replies to a thread you are subscribed to you will recieve an email about it. I am guessing this is the problem.
I am sure there is a simple way to unsubscribe to everything, which would be a better way to fix this, but if you cannot figure out how to do that, and I do not know how to either, you could click on the "Customize" button (located under the Navigation bar), and find the option that says "I want my thread subscriptions to be delivered to my private message box instead of by E-mail." and check the bullet labeled "Yes" under this.
In this way all your thread subscriptions should flood your PM box instead of your email inbox. Hope that helps.

I also agree. I was expecting that to be a Duel of the Fates, silver lining sort of moment for ROTS, I couldn't have been more wrong. I didn't find it exciting at all, and the cuts to the lame Yoda fight didn't help anything. Hovering over the lava was pretty dumb too.

I don't think there was any insinuation that Ben has "special powers" that makes him able to pull 3.2 million out of magic box or something, I think Miles just knows more about Ben than we do, including the fact that 3.2 million might not be a whole lot of money for Ben. The passports from various countries with various aliases tells us that Ben might get around more than we think he does. Not to mention the photograph Miles had of Ben. This is all heading in some very interesting directions. As for next weeks episode, I am very much looking forward to it, I am thinking it will be one of the better ones this season.
@ Tiptup, yeah, the idea was that it was the same Aaron that Claire gave birth to on the island, and that somehow he came under the care of Kate.
I wonder if the fact that Kate has Aaron (or Turniphead, whichever name you prefer) is any indication that Claire might not be with us much longer. I guess her story arc has pretty much been exhusted... I had always thought that Claire was pretty safe from death simply because she had the baby, but with this recent revelation that just might change.

Yup same for me. I went to see the first week. I was really enjoying it, Star Wars was back! The minute the crawl hit the screen I could hardly believe it. I did think the color of the crawl was a little off though, but that would only be the beginning of the problems that film had. The Nemoidians suck, but I was ready to over look them. It was still awesome. Two Jedi bouncing around and slicing up droids. Then all of a sudden this odd CGI creature pops up on the screen, maybe I could look past it. Then the odd CGI creature opened him mouth and began to speak... and I suddenly felt incredibly disapointed. It was at that moment I realized this wasn't going to be the film I was looking for. Just about the time I was adjusting to Jar Jar enough to think maybe I could look past him, suddenly were are in an underwater city filled with Jar Jars, and in an odd twist of events we meet Boss Nas, and fatter, dumber looking, and equaly annoying version of Jar Jar... d'oh! More and more awful things like this pop up along the way, but in the end there was a fantastic lightsaber duel. Say what you will about it, but I really like the fight. And the music just hit home, it wasn't any Star Wars tune we had heard before, but yet it rang fresh and new and still 100% Star Wars. That lightsaber fight reignited the flame of excitment the whole idea of three new Star Wars had always lit in me. There were still two more to films to go, the first one was a bit of a miss, but it had some excellent moments. As the story progressed, and Anakin became an adult and the clone wars began, there was no way it wasn't going to be awesome, no amount of ridiculous CG characters was going to ruin this... it was Star Wars... as Jimmy Fallon had put it on SNL a couple of weeks before (sung to the tune of "Every Morning" by Sugar Ray), "I just can't believe it, George Lucas is a genius,
Star Wars is back again... first I'm gonna see it, and then I'm gonna see it again..."
Little did I know, I was in for one hell of a disapointment...
I definitly fit into the camp that thinks The Phantom Menace was the most authentically Star Wars of all of them. It just had its moments. Qui-gon was cool and IMHO Obi-Wan was spot on, Maul was a great villian, and seeing Darth Sidious, who we all knew was Palpatine played by the same actor from ROTJ, really gave it a nostaligic feel. And the score throughout (with the exception of the scoreless and over long Podrace sequence) just couldn't let you forget to be excited about the fact that you were watching a NEW Star Wars movie. Though now that the other two suck as bad as they do, the prologue that is The Phantom Menace just isn't worth watching by itself.

NOW we have a character who truly gets to transform in the course of the trilogy, and it's also impossible to miss.
I know it's late, Adywan, but surely --- for the sake of character growth --- you can fit this tiny improvement in?

It wasn't Lucas' original intention for the character, he originally had Han shoot first, when he very easily had the technology to have Greedo shoot first at the time, had that really been his original intention. For twenty years Han had been the one to shoot first, Greedo has only shot first for the last ten years.
At anyrate, I certainly don't think Han going trigger happy on Greedo would be an improvement by any stretch of the imagination. I always had in movies when somebody empties a whole clip into someone in order to kill them. Real life is not like a video game, you don't have to wear down their life bar. One well placed bullet is enough to kill someone and blaster bolts seem to work much the same way. A man who is skilled with his gun, like Han is, would know this. His character comes off a lot smoother by simply pulling the trigger once, getting up and walking out. Job done. Problem solved. Sorry about the mess. Cooly walks away. Why would shooting him three times made him any more of a "changed man" as the trilogy progresses? If Greedo is dead he is dead. Han already kills him, he doesn't kill him anymore than he already has by wasting more ammo/energy on his corpse. Han is not an uptight character, he is much more of a calm and cool laid back one hit one kill kind of guy.

That's exactly the type I am talking about, fake drawers and all. Those things were awesome. 70s technology felt much more futuristic than modern technology. Thin and flat is boring. I miss bulky electronics and curved computer/TV screens.

I think most of us have moved on already. I have. This site is the only thing I have had to do with Star Wars for a long time. Other than checking out the occasional above and beyond effort fanedits (like adywan's) there is nothing with SW in the title that I look forward too. I don't care a thing about this new animated movie, and I don't care a thing about the live action show. I am pretty happy with the LD transfers I currently have, they look fine enough on my TV. The next penny I spend or minute I waste on SW (apart from posting here) will be purchasing the original unaltered trilogy on Blu-ray if that ever happens.

Now that KITT is portrayed by a different type of car, I have been thinking of how they might change around other cool vehicles of the past to lame modern day counter parts. I'm thinking a PT Cruser to be Dr. Brown's new time traveling car of choice in an as of yet unplanned Back to the Future remake.

You know, I had always felt that Star Trek suffered from some pretty harsh over milking, but one thing that can certainly be said about Star Trek is that even through all the various TV series they managed to spread it out and keep some degree of variety. Star Wars on the other hand seems bent on forever staying in and reliving the clone wars. Over, and over, and over...

As for the passing off of Luke. It wasn't even that well done, and I still agree with you that it was one of the better parts of the entire PT. He rides up to their home. Breu runs up to him and he hands her the baby, no explaination, no thank you, no oh my goodness what a horrible thing that has happened. It doen't even seem like they are waiting for the kid, they are just out in their yard watching the suns set when this guy they never met before and for some reason will come to dislike (he is just a crazy old man) rides up on a retarded looking animal and hand her a baby. And now without saying anything to the man giving her the baby, she goes back to her husband and judging by the scene I would imagine if you could hear what they were saying it would go something like this,
"What's that dear?"
"Oh, just a baby some crazy guy just gave to me"
"Huh, that was nice of him. Beautiful sunset eh?
Own doesn't even leave the sunset to go meet the guy. If you really think about, the scene absolutely sucks from a story telling standpoint. From a touching moment, good way to end the trilogy standpoint it works, but could have been better. Also I am not sure if Obi-Wan even really needed to know Yoda was still alive, he could have found out after he died and this is why his ghost told Luke to go there. You might say that he would not have let himself die at Vader's hand had he been the only chance for Luke to learn the ways of the Jedi, but at that time Lucas didn't know Yoda either nor did any of the people in the audience and it still worked. Obi-Wan might have intended to continue instruction via force ghost. Maybe Obi-Wan could have been wondering all these year who of the Jedi remained, but never knew. Or perhaps Yoda's survival was not a surprise to Obi-Wan, and that he had been in communication with him some how. A lot can happen in 20 years. Could have been a network of surviving Jedi for a while as they slowly got picked off, and at one point one of them had met up with Obi-Wan to let him know the current status of things and he had found out about the survival of Yoda this way. Surprises in movies are a good thing. Even little one. The PT was a pretty surpriseless mess. Almost nudging us and winking at us all the way saying, "you already know whats going to happen next."

Yeah, me too. Just about every spoken word in that trailer was a joke of some sort or another. Hopefully they just put the funniest parts in the trailer and the whole movie isn't like that. Hopefully. Maybe since they couldn't have Jar Jar in the film (until the big alien reveal at he end anyway), they had to make Indy a lot funnier to compensate.

Maybe we are becoming afraid of guns in the US though. Or maybe it is only guns in mass quantities but a pistol or two is okay. Seems like there are a lot less toy guns around these days too. When I was a little kid I would go around with my cap gun in a holster slug on my hip. I would go to the park like this, I'd play in the backyard like this, jump on the neighbor's trampoline like this, ride my bike around the neighborhood like this. It was made out of metal and looked decently real to the untrained eye. You can't find very real looking toy guns anymore for understandable reasons. Give us twenty years and the idea of a seven year old carrying around a toy of something so "evil" will be unheard of and the mere thought of it shocking.
But even then, I can't imagine that we will be cutting down on the quantity of movies with guns in them or the amount of guns appearing in movie. I think cartoons probably suffer more because so many parents are so sensitive of what their children watch. So when somebody says, "wow! Aladdin said that nice kids take off their clothes!" even though you have to stretch your imagination to come to that, parents freak out about it and Disney responeds by giving them what they want. You would think instead of going through the trouble to erase the preist's knnes, Disney would just say, "uh, those are his KNEES genius!" But I guess the customer is always right.

I wonder what that was edited on. It reminds me of the things I used to make when I was a kid by plugging to VCRs together which would cause every scene change to jump. What is really funny about this video is the text is like the text of a TV's, VCR's or camcorder's menu text. Can you insert text like this onto a video with certian camcorders then?
