That's a bit harsh, I thought the score for ROTS was fairly on-course for the most part (compared with the majority of AOTC).

A bit harsh? What is harsh about the guy saying he loved John William's score?

EDIT: Oh, I think I see the break down in communication here. I am pretty sure Moebius made a minor typo here, I think he means "John William's score of course", as in "obviously" or "it goes without saying". He was not trying to say it was "off-course" as in missing the mark (like AOTC's score did). Amazing what a difference the accidental inclusion of a double letter can do in changing the meaning of something.

I can honestly say that there is nothing I love about ROTS. If I never saw it again I would not mind a bit. For me there are things about the film that I don't mind, and then there are things I hate. I liked the opening battle. It was pretty cool how they panned down from the scroll right into battle. But that scene was really knocked down by silly things like buzz droids, Oddball, and poorly rendered CG clones fighter pilots. I was ready to look past those things, but just a short bit later we were indroduced to General Grevious, got to witness the first bits of McDiarmid's painful over acting, saw who was the best Star Wars villian of the whole PT die in the first few minutes of the film, and we see Obi-Wan sustain an injury that would have likely torn him open and recover from it with not so much as a limp or the loss of a drop of blood (non-violent, I am fine with that, but considering what we see later in the movie...). This is just in the first of the film, as the film progresses more and more little annoyances like this continuously add up, then we reach Anakin's turn and all hell breaks loose, we have the Emporer's face melt to make him look something like he did in ROTJ, we have him murdering children, attempting to choke his wife to death, an over the top fight complete with rope swinging and hovering over a lava river on the backs of droids, not to mention Yoda going nuts with his light saber again, and Padme dying of a broken heart, Anakin having a nice leather suit slapped on him before his burns even have a chance to heal, and to top it all off after all these centuries of Jedi roaming the galaxy Qui-Gon, one of the very last Jedi, turns out to be the one who discovers how to become a force ghost and comes back to teach Yoda and Obi-Wan how to do it too.

I see ROTS as a frame work of crappy moments and plot lines covered with a million little bits of crappiness, in the end producing one overwhelming crap fest. That said, I see nothing wrong with people enjoying the movie and do not look down on them for liking it. I really wish I could enjoy it as much as they do, but no matter how hard I try and how much of a chance I give it, I simply cannot. I really wanted to enjoy it, honest.

The .nfo file is just an information file. Open it with Notpad and you will see information about whatever the thing you downloaded it with was, in this case it will have information about Ady's Star Wars Revisited. It is kind of like the tag on a shirt, it has useful information on it, but if you tear it off, the shirt still functions just the same. So the .nfo file has nothing to do with your audio issues.

As boba feta already suggested, sounds like you need an AC3 codec installed to in order to hear the audio. That should fix the problem. Once you install an AC3 codec (should take more than five minutes to google it and find a link to one someplace) you should be able to hear the audio from whatever media player you like, doesn't matter which one you use. Window Media Player will do just fine. If you were going to get into the habit of watching .avi files often then I would suggest getting a better player like VLC media player, or Media Player Classic (both of which are freeware), but if Adywan's is the only video in this format you are likely ever to watch and you don't feel the need for advanced options then Window Media Player ought to do fine.

Hope you get it working, good luck. Sounds like you are trying to convert the Xvid to DVD? Keep in mind that Xvid is very compressed low quality format, converting it back to DVD won't gain you any of the lost quality back. In other words, in just a few days you could download the 4 gig DVD version with menus, extras, and it will be of considerably better quality. Sure you would have to wait longer for it, and it might be a pain to torrent a 4 gig file and take a few days to finish, but in the long run your blank DVD will be put to a lot better use. Of course if you are just going to play it on your portable DVD player and not on a full sized TV screen, then you might not even be able to tell the difference.

Ady, you seem to have not figured out how this whole things works yet. You ought to learn from the pros. When something like this goes wrong, you simply say that it was a deliberate creative decision and that the movie is not suppose to play right, the menu and the subtitles are suppose to be messed up. This way you don't have to admit your mistake and go through the time and cost of a recall.

Don't worry about it man, like I said above, even the professionals make these kinds of mistakes. We shall eagerly and patiently await the reuploaded version. Please do not shoot yourself.

It is really interesting to hear people say things like this all the time. Star Wars Revisited was a huge hit, but a TON of things where changed in that that really did not need to be changed. Many of the edits in that seemed like changes that were just fun to see. That is what I liked about it. I have seen Darth and Obi-Wan fight each other like old men time and time again, it was fun to see them fighting at a faster pace. I might be wrong but that, and many of the other changes in Star Wars Revisited seemed like they were just things that were fun to see. The thing I liked about Star Wars Revisited is that it is fun to watch because of these things. I liked seeing the mass of Tie Fighters joining in at the battle of Yavin, but surely they were not ncessary.

For those that don't want the "just for fun" changes or don't want to see the OT "modified", then you do realize that you still have the 2004 Georgie versions and the GOUT, right? There are other de special editioned version of the 04 DVDs out there, as well as version that correct the "deliberate creative decisions". Why not go after those and not sweat about whatever Ady wants to do with his?

How different in quality will the PAL version be from the NTSC?

Will there be any point in NTSC users converting the PAL version to their format to watch (rather than waiting for you to do it)?

PAL DVDs won't play in most NTSC rack DVD players, there are region free DVD players but most people in NTSC land don't have those.

Actually, the DVD regions are different from the NTSC PAL differences. The regions are put in place to unethically (IMHO) keep people from playing discs they bought from regions other than their own. For example, Battlestar Galactica season 3 was released in the UK before it was in the US. The DVD companies don't want someone buying it in the UK and bringing it home to US, where they will not buy it when it is finally released locally. Any DVD you burn yourself will be region free, but the format of the video itself will still either follow PAL or NTSC standards. With my Philips DVD player, and my Emerson TV (both bought from Wal-Mart here in the USA, no modifications made) I have absolutely no problems watching my PAL DVDs.

I lived in DVD Region 2 land for a while so many of my movies are PAL, my player will not play my commercially purchased movies because they are region encoded to R2 but my DVD player is an R1 player. In the past my solution to this was to make a DVD-R copy of the disc, effectively removing the region encoding. While they are still in PAL format they play just fine on my American DVD player. However, I loaned a couple to my parents one time and their DVD player could play it, but their TV screen couldn't display the PAL signal. My cousins Sony DVD player will just outright say that the disc is in the wrong format.

Some DVD players, like the old Apex units used to have an option in the menu for changing the signal to NTSC or PAL. Back before my Apex died it seemed to be able to play PAL format discs on any TV I have ever hooked it up too.

So, as far as being able to watch the PAL version of Revisited on your DVD player, it really depends on whether or not your both your DVD player and TV can handle it. If they are a cheap TV and DVD player, I wouldn't be surprised if it worked just fine. If they are top of the line, Sony brand, or anything like that, I'd say your chances are slim. If you can get it from a.b.star.wars and don't have a limit on how much you can pull off of news groups, why not get the PAL version, and try it out. At the very least you can watch it on your computer, then you can just download the NTSC version when it comes out and toss the PAL one away.

Hope this gives a more detailed answer to those who are feeling a bit confused about this.

Why do PT defenders and such keep claiming the OT was badly written as well ?!
Time
Yeah, I remember the defense for the Phantom Menace was that, it is a Star Wars movie and so the plot isn't suppose to make sense. Then later after episode two came out, acting, come on, it is a Star Wars movie, it is suppose to be bad acting. Lame dialogue, come on it is a Star Wars movie, it is suppose to have lame dialogue.

Maybe having grown up with the movies I am a little biased, but I have always found the plot of the OT to be very tangible, the acting to be decent enough, and the dialogue has never seemed lame to me.

As far as films go, I would say Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are about as near perfect as you get. The reason why they are so popular and elements of them have become popular culture, is because so many people went to see them. Why? Because they were great films. They were not summer blockbusters that were forgotton a short time later. Do you think we will be quoting lines such as "This is Sparta!" 30 years from now? Not likely. But I have no doubt people will still be quoting the OT 30 years from now.

At anyrate, the OT was very well written. People who claim the PT is just as well written as the OT have no idea what they are talking about.

How much longer will the format war last?
Time
^ Absolutely to all the above. In this day and age of double dipping you can expect them to hesitate getting their releases on a living format. Though I'd say the likelihood of those releases being remastered to Blu-ray standards is pretty slim. When they do release them, I suppose they will just use the same HD-DVD masters and make the necessary changes to turn it into Blu-ray.

If I had a whole lot of time on my hands, and even more patience, it would be cool to recut each season of Lost into condensed form. Maybe 10 - 14 episodes a season, removing all the filler and meandering while being sure to include everything of value. It would be a mammoth task though, and editing a TV show can't be anything like editing a movie.

leaked x files 2 trailer anybody seen it and opinions?
Time
You know, even though I am an X-Files fan, I just wasn't at all interested in this thing. But now that I have seen the trailer, even though like lj said, it wasn't much of a trailer, I am kind of feeling excited for this now.

I felt the show went on too long for its own good, and my opinion of this movie was that it was simply a way of cashing and milking out a few more drops from an old success, which it obviously is, but now the idea of having a brand new story featuring everybody's favorite FBI duo is starting to sound like fun. If this is decent, I wouldn't mind it if X-Files got a second life as a series of movies with a new sequel every so many years. Maybe the movies can be a bit of a restart to the franchise and introduce it to a whole new audience, especially since it wont be connected to the mythology of the series (right? This is what I heard, I might be wrong though).

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread
Time
I just went back and reread all my earlier comments on page one. It is funny how different I felt about the show just that short time ago. Since then I have given it a chance and now I am completely caught up. I didn't like the first few episodes, but it seems to get progressively better with each episode. Just thought to look up how many episodes there are left in the season only to discover that now that I am enjoying the show there are only two more episodes left and that Fox has yet to commit to picking it up for another season. It would kind of suck if this ends on a cliff hanger then never gets resolved. Rating are not doing so well, you'd think since there is not a whole lot else on due to the dry up from the writer's strike that more people would be watching this. Dumb rating system is a joke anyway. It would be cool if they could get a system that accurately took into account each and every household that watches/records a certian show, I bet in reality the numbers they come up with are nowhere close to the real things. Oh well. If the show does go on I think it would be nice if they stuck with short season, nine episodes feels just about right for this thing. It is not the kind of story you can stretch over too long of a season without resorting to a lot of filler. At its current pace every episode serves to move the story along, and it doesn't feel like too much time is wasted.

I wouldn't say total crap, I'd say 95% crap. The bit with Locke and Ben at the beginning was cool. But all the Kate and Swayer stuff was just too much. Show us around the others camp more or something, there are so many cool things to be seen on the island, yet we are stuck in the bedroom with Swayer and Kate talking about their future together.

It is episodes like "The Constant" that make it worth sticking with this show through soap operaesque crap like "Eggtown". The theme this season so far has been mostly boring or slow moving episodes with big revelations at the end. This was a truely excellent episode, it ranks of there among the finest of Lost episodes. Is it too much to ask for something even half this good each week?

Does it bother anyone else how happy go lucky everyone in New Othersville were in Eggtown? Here is Clare whos boyfriend just died while trying to get them off the island, so she decides to stay on the island and a mere two days later the loss is forgotten and now she is smily and giggly playing with her baby and having chitchats with her new roomate. Lost has never handled grivences very well, but this is by far the worst.

Oh, yeah. To this day I consider the Christmas I received the Death Star playset to be the best Xmas ever. I lost that little "rope" early on, but my friend's playset still had it. Also, my trash compactor was entirely dark blue, although my friend's was orange as seen in the link. Indeed the trash compactor and swinging-over-the-non-functioning-bridge were iconic scenes from the movie, and it was great to re-enact those. Although getting Leia to hang on was a bit tricky!

I lost my swing too, but I just replaced it by tying a bit of string to the place where the plastic rope attached, and then tying a loop in the other end. It was a little harder to get the arm through, but worked just as well. It is very interesting to hear that your trash compactor was dark blue. Mine was orange just like the one on the box. My friends was also orange, and I am sure I have seen several of these sets out of the box in various collections and at comic shops, and I have never encountered a blue compactor before. It makes a lot more sense than bright orange and better matches the colors of the rest of the set.

Actually, the boulder-on-a-rope at the Ewok Village comes in handy for swinging at a speeder bike and "smashing" it apart.

I forgot to mention the boulder! That boulder was another one of the things that made that set great.

After ROTJ, my friend and I would remove that big gun from the top floor of the Death Star (which my friend still had) and that chair would be the Emperor's throne.

Haha, I did that too. The exploding mechanism of the gun on mine broke somehow and the gun would always automatically sping out, so I never bothered put it on. It was a lot cooler as a Throne room anyway.

This was probably my absolute favorite toy when I was a kid. I've spent hours playing with this thing. The trash compactor was brilliant with the dianoga and the foam bits of trash and the fact that it really compacted, and I loved the retractable bridge and rope swing. The trash compactor and the bridge had always been my favorite moments in the movie, so having them both depicted in the same toy where my figures could relive those moments again and again was fantastic. The elevator was pretty well designed too.

The Ewok Village was also pretty cool. It had the net trap at the bottom, which was really cool, and then spit for roasting guests over the fire, a throne to honor whoever the latest visitor to be mistaken for a diety is, and then a few more drop traps for the unsuspecting Stormtrooper prowling around in the poor little Ewoks huts (I would alway imagine there to be spikes at the bottom).

Most SW playsets were kind of pointless (see, Droid Factory, Cloud City, Rebel Command Center, Cantina Adventure, Jabba's Dungeon, etc.), but the Death Star and the Ewok Village went above and beyond what a playset should be. If my parents are going to throw alot of money away on something, it ought to at least be able to keep me occupied for a decent amount of time.

Another cool one was the exploding speederbike. Blowing that thing up and watching the rider go flying never got old.

It should not be considered the first Star Wars film without Fox, it should be considered the first animated Star Wars spin off to be milk hard enough for a theatrical release. They are smart though, if you consider all the crappy kids movies to hit movie theaters these days, why not attempt a theatrical run of a feature length made for TV pilot that is based on a popular frachise.

You mean Hasbro never made a dead youngling figure? What a missed opportunity. I remember when Hasbro starting making Luke figures where his hand would pop off. Moms everywhere absolutely loved that figure. They could have made a series of youngling figures where various parts of their... oh never mind. Note to George: when making a movie for little kids, don't put scenes in the movie that cannot/should not be portrayed in an action figure. Especially when the toy makers are going to make Wampas with fallaway limbs, and Tauntans with slitopenable bellys for Luke insertions. Wow, if you really dwell on that scene, and imagine what had to have gone on off screen... kind of ruins the whole PT right there.

(Seriously, don't read this part. Skip to the third paragraph)
On second thought, George might be on to something interesting here. I think I will get to work on a screenplay about a sweet little boy who loves his mom and likes to build things. The kid will be a vunderkint, and everyone will love him. He will also be portrayed by some kid who can act worth a dime. The story will show him growing up, and will be really happy and lighthearted. Then eventually sometime near the end he will start to become afraid because he thinks his girlfriend might possibly have a potential risk of maybe getting cancer sometime in the possible distant future, but he can't bear the thought of living without her, so he kills her. Then he goes out and kills a bunch of other people, blows up some orphanages and chilrdens homes, and daycares, and preschools, and maternity hospitals, and maybe there will be some canabalism involved somewhere in there. It would make a great exploitation film. But it will be absolutely important that the first two thirds of the movie have a happy "Magical World of Disney" made for TV family movie quality about it, then in the third act I will release the hounds.

Hmm, yeah, I guess that poptart thing is kind of in bad taste. But really it is nothing when you consider the original idea was to go with the "Charred Limb Chocolate" theme as a way to tie the popular breakfast food in with the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, but many of the people on the poptart's planning board didn't think it was a good idea, so they went with "Lava Berry Explosion" instead. Interestingly enough, "Lava Berry Explosion" is a recycled theme reused from their "Catastrophe at Pompeii" promotion from several years ago.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!

I don't care what anybody says, Superman 2 was one of the greatest films of all time. Between General Zod and the giant cellophane "S", you just can't go wrong with that movie regardless of the director. Oh yeah, and the part where the three of them are blowing and people are being blown over and carried away by the wind is pretty friken sweet too.

EDIT: I would like to take this opportunity to mark this post so it shall never be forgotten that this particular post was my 2222nd post. I won't have another quad-mono-numeral post again for a very long time. How awesome is it that my 2222nd post just happened to be about General Zod? Coincidence? Most certianly not! I think fate has good things planned for me, and those good things might just have something to do with balding, growing a cool beard, dressing in black all the time, and world domination. Oh yeah, and blowing pedestrians around through the streets via the power of my breath. I am not sure how fate will accomplish this, but there is no doubt in my mind that it will find away. Fate always finds away. I really need to get some sleep, I think I am starting to make even less sense than I usually do.

I like that the Episode One figures are now 70% off in that picture.

I am afraid Star Wars themed kids party sets and boxes of Pop Tarts with Vader on them are just not that awful. C-3PO underoos is something entirely different. It is a whole different plane of awfulness. You are always going to have cereial and snack boxes having pictures of popular childrens characters on them, that has been going on for a long time. It is pretty standard to walk down the breakfast asle and be bombarded with depictions of Jack Sparrow, Darth Vader, Pokemon and Mickey Mouse. Kids party sets? I am not sure I have even seen a kids party set that was not themed. They change every year, but you will always be able to go to the store and pick out a party set with some theme of something that your kid is into that year, seaon, month. Nothing surprising there at all. And since it is for pretty small kids, I really can see it as all that awful. Things like the porceline line of SW collectables, and some akwardly planned and poorly executed products like the Threepio tape despenser or the Jar Jar sucker, those things are something that are truely deserving of the word "awful".

"beowulfs mother was supposed to be a hideous troll orgress off the moors not some whore in the form of angelina jolie."

Grendel's mother you mean. But yeah, I agree with all you said. It urks me to see things like Beowulf adapted as lousy action films. And as for the Tolkien estate, I have always been quite disapointed in both Tolkien's estate, and even more so in C. S. Lewis' estate. Lewis' estate is the true shame, but I have a lot of respect for Tolkien's estate, since it is the guys family. I dislike the fact that so many of Tolkien's works that have once been published are being held back. I understand about holding back unpublished works, since someday they may be published and allowing the public to view and photocopy them could reduce their publication value to a degree. But things that have been published before, like Beowulf and other scholarly works by Tolkien, that is a real shame to me.
