My Cowclops v2 transfers, which I used to play ALL THE TIME, haven't been watched in months. Somehow, knowing that it isn't as accurate (in terms of color, etc) as the GOUT makes me actually consider laying down good money for that most recent boxset, but then I remember a) I don't have money to blow right now and b) the blu-ray, which will hit with some version of the movie on it sometime in the next few years, could very well include the original version in 1080p.

The blu-ray could hit in a few years, but look how long it took it to hit DVD. It could contain a 1080p version of the original versions, but given George's track record and how stubborn he is, it very well may not include anymore than a barebones transfer of each film. Regardless what it contains, people will eat them up, love every second of it, and defend George to the death for having made them the way he did. Since that is the case, why should he go through any kind of trouble going out of his way to put more on them than needs be?

Not trying to stomp on your hope, just putting it out there. The fact is you don't have to spend good money on the newest boxset to get the GOUT, in fact I think that would be a mistake, as long as they can rerelease these every year and still have people buy them, there is no reason for them every to come out with anything new. I got my GOUT late last year used for $9, all three movies. The market is flooded with these stupid things! Just check ebay, half, amazon, or any of the other online places that carry used discs, and you should be able to snag all three for less than $20. Even better is if you find a place like Game Exchange that carries used DVDs, I noticed they often have them on sale two for ten bucks. If you happen to stumble across the GOUT there you can get them and one other movie for $20.

When you buy the GOUT, you essentially have two sets of movies on your hands, the originals, and the '04 movies. If you want to minimize your cost as much as possible, you can take the '04 discs, find a few empty DVD cases, print off '04 covers for them, and sell them on ebay (just specify in your listing that the original cases are missing and that replacements have been printed off so the buyer doesn't get disappointed when they see they were printed and not original). Not sure how much you'd get for them, but even if you only get five bucks or so, it'll still take a chunk out of your cost, and some other SE SW fan will be happy to get a cheap set of the movies they love. This was what I intended to do, but since I got lucky and only payed $9 for the things, I didn't bother.

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. Anyone Here read it yet? (Spoilers Warning) Not Much to Spoil it sucks
Time

I have always heard people call the first Star Wars movie "Lord of the Rings in space" for as long as I can remember. It is almost the same basic story, though in an extremely abridged form; the reluctant hero leaving home, mentored by an old wizard who is separated from him pre-maturely, leaving him alone and uncertain, finding himself way over his head, and saving the world from an object of great evil and certain doom, nearly failing at the last minute but succeeding thanks to an old friend saving the day.

Not sure, but I think George has talked about being inspired in part by LOTR before.

I'd definitely recommend starting on Fallout 3 next. Once you get out of the shelter and get going in the wastelands you'll love it.

I have no freakin idea what kthxbye stands for, but I certainly didn't post any spoilers whatsoever. Hell, I haven't even played the GNR level yet, as I said, I talked my way out of it. Since you are out of the shelter, it is no secret to you that your dad ran off and your mission is to track him down, so it should be no spoiler that eventually somebody tells you where he is. The fact that some dude needs you to repair something should be no spoiler either, since there are about a million people in the game that ask you to do favors for them by fixing something they are too lazy to deal with themselves. I guess the mutants in Jefferson Memorial could be a spoiler (comes much later than GNR though), but the fact that Mutants pretty much occupy every above ground building in that area should come as no surprise that a few of them hang out there. That would be about as big of a spoiler as me saying there are ghouls in the subways.

Wow, you are at level 13 and you haven't done any of the story missions beyond the shelter? This game is going to be damn easy for you.

My first post about being annoyed at getting killed while wandering the wastes was made around my second day of playing. I think I was about level 5 or 6 at the time. At that point I was working my way through the main story missions and trying to make my way to the radio station from Megaton, which is the point I kept getting killed at, that is a long ways to travel at a low level. I talked my way out of helping Three Dog with his broadcast problems and got him to tell me where Liam Neeson was anyway, which I did not know at the time robbed me of being forced to gain precious experience points. By the time I finished clearing mutants out of the Jefferson Memorial, my level had reached a decent point where I am able to travel just about anywhere without dying too much.

Some exploration prior to beginning the story missions in order to build experience would have been wise and saved me a lot of frustration. At that point the game just felt overwhelmingly huge, and the story missions where the only sense of direction I had.

Now I am throughly enjoying the game, and can't see myself getting tired of it anytime soon. Now that I have discovered enough locations, it is easy to travel from place to place without trudging through the wasteland for hours. Biggest complaint now is that while playing the things hours just fly by, I'll start playing it sometime early in the evening with the intention of buring just a little bit of time, and before I know it it is dark outside and nearly bedtime.

Resident Evil 5 demo was released officially for the 360 yesterday, so no longer the need of torrenting the Japanese demo and burning it onto a disc. Guess the PS3 version will be out in Feb.

Fallout 3's first add-on, Operation: Anchorage was released today, I went ahead and bought it, and I got to say it was most definitely worth ten bucks. Seems kind of silly in a game bursting at the seams with things to do and side quests to spend money for a single additional side quest and a few additional weapons. But this thing is so different from anything else in the game, it is pretty cool to see what else the engine is able to do. The change of scenery from burnt out wastelands to Alaskan Mountains is pretty nice.

The pills are legit. I take around 8 pills a day for things such as Acid Reflux, ADHD, Allergies, and Depression.

I understand that, but I feel like it is worth the risk. I am not my Father. I don't feel content living in one place my whole life.

This may be crazy to say but I think I feel what Luke Skywalker must have felt when he wanted to leave the planet of Tatooine.

My parents have been trying to dissuade me saying I might be DQ'd because I take medication and stuff like that.

Since they are all prescribed you should be okay for the Peace Corps.

You are not alone in feeling that way. I grew up in a relatively small city, there wasn't a whole lot there and most kids felt like Luke Skywalker. I know very few kids I grew up with who stuck around, they all joined the military, married someone who lived far away, or enrolled in colleges on the other side of the country first chance they got.

I was the same way, I couldn't wait to leave the confines of the city I grew up in. I got my chance and since then I have been fortunate to do quite a lot of traveling and moving around. Oddly, now that I have that out of my system, I feel more than content to anchor down and live in one place for the rest of my life... maybe.

That is one reason Luke's character works so well, his desire to discover what more their is to life than he has known in the box he grew up in is universal. So many people get that feeling, even if they never act on it. IMHO, you only get one life, so it is a real shame not to act on it. If only for a few years.

Not surprising your parents are trying to disuade you. You can imagine how scary it is to hear your son say he wants to join the military during a time where you can barely turn on the TV without hearing about another handful of U.S. soilders being killed. Even outside of times of war we loose troops every now and then. Even if you join in a year's time, after Obama begins extracting troops, your chances of getting shipped to a turbulent area such as Iraq is pretty high. It is not only the issue of getting killed, but there are other things you may have to cope with when placed in such a situation. I have a friend who was in Iraq, he was never in combat, his duty was to fill out paper work and get supplies loaded off of airplanes and on to trucks to send to various camps. Never fired a single bullet or was ever fired at, but suffers from some pretty harsh nightmares from many of the things he has seen there.

Judging by many of your past posts, and how liberally minded you are, I think the Peace Corps. may be your cup of tea. Not to mention it may be a lot easier on your mom and dad, and still provide you the desired outcome of getting to see the world.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time

Speaking of Magnoliafan, I guess he lost interest in doing an ROTS edit long ago? Pretty sure I remember him talking about being in the process of doing one, but being as we are now in the year 2009 and the movie came out on DVD back in 2005, I'm going to go ahead and assume that it is not happening.

I would have liked to have seen someone tackle ROTS in some extreme way, but so far I have not heard of any edit that does more than a little snip here and there.

Actually, I felt Boba Fett's apperance in the Jabba scene in the hanger bay was another mark against that scene. They only put him there because he is such a popular character. But this guy is suppose to be one of the galaxies absolute best bounty hunters, and yet he is just hanging around like one of Jabba's kronies. If Han had a mark on his head, and the great expert Boba Fett was in the area, why would some stupid newbie bounty hunter like Greedo get to him first. Or at the very least, why wouldn't he be off somewhere else capturing and collecting on bigger bounties, rather than playing a lousy hired thug for Jabba. Makes Boba seem like a loser who spends most his life just hanging around some obese giant slug.

The Peace Corps would be good. I am not sure of their about the medication thing, as I have no idea why your taking them, if it is a ligitimate medical need, then I am sure it is not a problem. If you are popping them because you need them in the same way you aspire to go to Las Vegas and do a crap load of drugs, then yeah, I am sure it would be a problem.

Usually with the Peace Corps. they want you to have some kind of experience that you can bring with you. And I heard that a lot more kids are joining up right out of college because it is getting hard to find jobs. Go to their website and give them your address and they will send you a ton of information, as well as a list of upcoming recruiting events you can attend in your area.

Pitch an Original Idea!

Okay, so there is this huge freaken money, I'm talking sixty feet tall. And he can fly. Then there is this alien, while on a vist to earth gets left behind and desperately wants to phone home and ask dad for a ride, but doesn't speak English and cannot communicate this to anybody. He and the giant fly monkey meet up. The giant monkey doesn't speak any English either (he is from Latin America and can only speak Farsi, which doesn't make any sense, but he is a giant flying monkey after all), so they become fast friends. Even though the alien doesn't speak Farsi, somehow the giant simian explains that he too is lost and cannot find home. When the monkey was just out of high school, he worked at a phone repair shop and so knows a lot about phones and promisses to teach the alien how to use one if he will help him find his way home to the long lost island of giant flying monkeys (which just so happens to be an active volcano named Musafar). Along the way the alien gets depressed and the monkey helps him through it in some very touching scenes which are sure to become a true inspiration for addicts dreaming to some day no longer be addicts. Eventually they find Musafar, and the monkey's mother lets the alien use her phone to make a collect call home (she doesn't have a long distance service), and his dad comes to pick him up and the monkey decides to go back to their planet with them. They end up getting there late and not getting to go to bed until really late at night, and in turn sleeping in most of the next day. When they wake up they decide to go to the movies and end up hating it and asking for their money back. As the story ends they are greatful to have gotten their money back, but they muse about what a shame it is they lost those minutes of their lives, wasted watching a bit of a crappy movie. Anyone who actually read this post all the way through can probably relate.

LOST
Time

It is because the Lost comic-con event caters to the overly obsessive part of the Lost fanbase, and they were pushing their last online Lost game, which exists for the overly obsessed fans as a way to build up interest in the show between seasons. They always tie these things in with comic-con. The last game was something about becoming a recruit for a revival of the Dharma Initiative, so they set up a booth at comic-con to promote it. I guess you could register at the booth or online. They have done the same kind of thing between seasons 2 and 3 and between 3 and 4. It is always cheesy and pretty lame, but some of these people really get into analyzing every little aspect of show and they really eat this crap up.

The only part of it that is worth while would be cool things that come out of it like the clip of Faraday filming the orientation video guy, or last years Orchid orientation video out takes. In the end, the framing of the video is something you can just cut out.

And yeah, so far this season has been off to a great start. Was finally able to sit down and watch these two new episodes a few hours ago. I hope they keep it at this quality and don't drop the ball for the sake of cheap tricks like the poison gas station episode last season, where they spend the whole episode making you think Dan and C.S. Lewis are evil, then flip it at the end and make it turn out that it was just a big misunderstanding and they only had to knock out Kate and leave her with a bleeding head wound and a possible concussion lying unconscious in the middle of a dangerous jungle because it would have taken them too long to explain to her and convince her that the evil men who kidnap small children and pregnant women, and lock people in animal cages, and strap kids to chairs to brain wash them (in other words, some people Kate already knew were pretty f-ed up and able to do great evil) built a toxic gas releasing station solely for the purpose of killing everyone on the island in the event of an emergency that Dan and Charlotte felt the need to disable. I hate episodes like that. Oh, or the episode where Sun has her baby and they try to make us think Jinn is on his way to see her, only to cheaply reveal at the end of the episode that he died on the island and we were watching two separate sets of flashbacks.

We have been bombarded with four years of mysteries, many that have been revealed, but plenty of others that it feels like the writers have pretty much forgotten about (I want to know who the hell Monton is and how the hell he lost his fricken arm! Monton and his arm are pretty much the whole reason I still watch the show, I have been waiting anxiously since the end of season two to learn more about ol' Monton). Barely thirty some episodes left in the series, slightly more than your traditional 20+ episode season, and they have a lot of ground to cover. Really hate to see them waste it on cheap tricks and meaningless episodes they do nothing to push the story along. Here is hoping season five doesn't feel the need to pull crap like that. (At least Frogert was done away with quick and painlessly without the need of another Nikki and Paulo incident).

Yeah, judging by the fact that one of your greatest life aspirations is to go to Vegas and burn your brain out on drugs; if I were you I do myself a favor and enlist today.

It is also kind of novel to read rcb say the words, "what the heck was george thinking?" Sentiments shared by countless SW fans from 1997 - present.

I have to agree with rcb, he looked better than the DVD Jabba. 1997 Jabba didn't look good by any means, but most certainly better than the DVD Jabba.

The problem was that the scene simply was not filmed this way. The character of Jabba the Hutt we met in ROTJ couldn't have possibly fit in that scene. Period. It just wouldn't work. So they made a much smaller version of him, but then you had the problem of the tail, so they did the only work around they could do and had Han step on his tail.

The scene just didn't work. It didn't fit. They were so bent on making it work they made many compromises with continuity (Jabba's size, apperance, temperment). Nice try, but I have to say "fail".

Fortunately Star Wars fans, especially the younger variety are willing to accept, defend, and absolutely love just about anything no matter how half-assed it was done. Jabba the Hutt was actually some good preparation for the prequels, preparing us to accept more half-assedness.

What a pile of nonsense.

See Also: Anakin's Space Jesus Virgin Birth.

LOL, right after ROTS was released I sat down and wrote a mini screenplay that spoofed on Terminator. In my screenplay, sometime in the years between ROTS and ANH, an IG-88 assassin droid was sent back in time to kill Shmi Skywalker, and a young Han Solo was sent back to protect her. Following the major plot twist from Terminator, during Han's time with Shmi Anakin is conceived. Once the droid is destroyed and Shmi is safe, like a jerk Han leaves her and goes back to his own time. Shmi finds she is pregnant, angry and ashamed she tells everyone that there is no father and she has no idea how she got pregnant, she really can't explain it.

Of course, nobody believes her, but she persists in her story even into her old age.

Makes the whole OT love triangle even more warped and incestuous than George managed to make it. :p

I would pay exorbitant amounts of money to see that film if it was ever made.

So, you saying I got a producer for my movie? I think an exorbitant amount of money ought to be more than enough to get this thing filmed. Let's do it.

this way they can just pick and choose..

Yeah, you can pick and choose within four episode blocks. What if you just like one out of the four episodes and dislike the other three? I just don't see much to appreciate there. Really doesn't bother me because I'd have no interest in buying these anyway, but it is an obvious double dipping.

Smart idea or not, I don't really care. I am absolutely thrilled there are people like you (rcb) who throughly enjoy the SE and think it was an amazing feat of intelligence for him to have added those things to the films. Seriously, this is great, I really couldn't be more pleased with that aspect of the issue. I have loved these movies my whole life, and am thrilled to see other love them, even if in some altered form. Even the prequels don't bother me so much. I a pretty much hate the later two as much as I could possibly hate any film. To me they are just unbelievably horrible films and I cannot stand to watch them, but I think it is great so many SW fans, old and new, accept them inspite of all their flaws (some to such a degree they seem to think they are flawless). I do not begrudge other fans for liking these aspects of SW, I am very happy they find the great enjoyment in these things that I have found in the SW I grew up with.

What turns the whole thing sour to me is the treatment of the originals. Bottom line. The end. It leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth, and irks me to no end. Defend Lucus on his vast intelligence for having created a beautiful CG Jabba, Jar Jar Binks as well as a brilliant and shocking turn to the darkside for Anakin, but I really cannot stand it when Lucas fans defend his treatment of the originals.

Star Wars is in a sad state. Not so much to me because it has nuked the fridge (ironic that very term come to us from another work of the flannel man himself), I'd argue that all good things will do that sooner or later and that it would be ashame to let newer, lesser quality materials ruin the experience of the parts that were good. With something as popular as Star Wars always has been, it is to be expected that it will eventually collapse in on itself. To me the sign of SW's sorry state is the fact that the very films that made it popular in the first place are not recieving the treatment they deserve, and that some fans are so in love with everything Georgie does, they actually defend him in this.

Writing and acting are two very different skillsets. Her acting abilities tell nothing of her writing abilities, and it is her writing that will be in the Clone Wars series. Hopefully for the sake of CW fans she is a good writer. Even if she isn't, the chances of her NOT writing another episode are pretty nearly zero, what with her being the great bearded ones daughter and all.
