You seem very insistent on failing to understand us...

Anyway, interesting project, thanks for sharing it with us. Don't worry so much what other people think about it, if it is something that interests you, keep at it. And by posting it here, it is very likely at least a few others who find it interesting will stumble across it.

It made the galaxy seem tiny. Like a neighborhood where everybody knows everybody. Quite the opposite of fascinating for me.

Yeah! Dumbest thing ever.

A similar thing is how they set up the end of ROTS to match the beginning of ANH so much, like nothing changed in 20 years. Vader is already hanging out with Tarkin, C3PO and R2 are already on the Tantive IV ship which they were on in the beginning of ANH and Captain Antilles is already there. I mean, come on, let things develop a bit in 20 years. Makes things feel less real. Like the everybody knowing everybody thing, it leaves less room in the Star Wars universe.

Ha! I had never even thought of that before. I guess my brain has always been too numb after watching that awful movie to really think about it. We have all the other movies just a few years apart each, and the characters and circumstances change, or at least they are in different places from one film to the next. But you are right, at the end of ROTS every one is placed right where they are at the beginning of ANH. Only mystery left of this intertrilogy era is how Leia got from Alderaan to the Tantive IV.

For some reason I used to really like the Darkhorse Droids comic book series. Still one of my favorite bits of the EU, because it showed a totally different side of the SW universe. Never heard a peep about the Empire or the Rebellion or Tantooine or the Millenium Falcon or the Force. Instead you just get a look at the crazy mixed up galaxy through the eye of R2 and 3PO.

Like most comic books, Droids had a fan mail section at the back of each issue. One of the questions that a fan wrote in to ask about was Threepio's leg. All through the SW trilogy 3PO has one silver leg, this fan wrote in to ask if the reason for his mismatched leg would be addressed in the series, and their response was "no". Their reason was that the prequels were going to be coming eventually, and they didn't want to get in George's way, since he was more than likely going to be answering that himself. If only they'd have known that George had probably forgotten Threepio even had a mismatched leg (much like he'd forgotten Obi-Wan gave Luke Anakin's lightasabre), they wouldn't have had to worry about getting in his way. If only I'd have known that that stupid comic book series was going to be fifty times better than any of the prequels, I could have quit looking forward to it way back then.

I still do watch them from time to time if they are on TV or whatever (except for AOTC, I H A T E that movie and can't even stand 5 min. of it)

Yeah, for some reason AOTC evokes a sort of gag reflex in me. I can't stand it at all.

I have kind of a weird relationaship with TPM though, to me it is kind of like that annoying younger brother. He constantly pisses you off and annoys you, you tell your friends you hate him and you wish he'd die, but then, deep down, there is some strong sense of fondness and love there too.

I can say I hate The Phantom Menace and I wouldn't be lying. But I actually really like it. I have even had the urge to consider sitting down and watching it again sometime over the last few months, that is more than I will ever be able to say about the other two.

Since ROTS has came out, I have not seen any Star Wars movie except for SW: Revisited, and even on that one I skipped around enough that I made it to the end in less than an hour. Nanner mentioned that ROTS came out nearly four years ago, kind of surprising to think about the fact that I have not seen any SW movie in over three years.

This would be a cool Youtube film. I'd love to see an IG droid going around with a phone book page in his hand killing off every Shimi Skywalker on the entire planet. If I had the animation skills, I'd totally do it. Though if that South Park episode has any shred of reality to it whatsoever, it seems it is pretty much impossible to get those youtube guys to pay up, and when they do it is only in theoretical dollars.

Hello! I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading it for a while, and I stumbled across this idea today.

I'm a partner on YouTube (what with the revenue sharing and all) and have the time and resources to make this in stop-motion with Legos. Maybe we could all work something out?

To be honest, that sounds pretty cool. I'll PM you my email address.

Time

I have to say the last episode was rather disappointing. Not because there was anything particularly wrong with the episode, but because we have gotten whole episodes dedicated to mundane things like Jack's tatoo. Then after years of mystery shrouding the incident with Rousseau and her crew, we are only given less than 20 minutes to address it. I am glad after nearly four years of waiting, I finally got to see Montan lose his arm, but in the end it was rather lackluster and unsatifying. I would have really liked to have seen a traditional flashback episode for Rousseau. She was an important enough character for the first four seasons that she most definitely deserved one.

NPR Radio Show - My Thoughts

Vaderisnothayden said:

The radio drama is pretty well done, but I can't take it too seriously with other actors playing people like Leia and Han. The first episode was interesting. But the second one, the Leia ep, was lame. And I'm not terribly impressed with how Leia is performed. I wish the radio drama didn't feel the need to fill in every bit of the story. I guess we're lucky they didn't put in scenes for every time the characters went to do a crap. The stuff that's not in the movie or the deleted scenes feels a bit bogus to me. It includes some stuff that makes Han more ruthless and Tarkin less brave.

I also have serious issues with the ROTJ drama, because it includes various expanded universe stuff. Considering that the radio dramas are considered core stuff (I think they shouldn't be, but they are), expanded universe stuff from the 90s doesn't belong in there. They should have stuck to old stuff and tried to make a drama like it would have been had they made it in the earlier 80s rather than in the mid-90s.

To each their own I guess, but having it expanded into a much larger story, and then serialized into a bunch of episodes is what really makes me love this so much. I loved the extra stuff with Leia and Bail. Maybe it sounds a little corny at times, but I think that is part of the novelty, it makes it feel like an authentic old time radio show. For some reason listening to the thing just brings me back to the days of staying up past bed time and secretly reading comic books with a flashlight.

Having different actors for many of the characters was just fine for me, when I listen to it I like to try to forget about the movie as much as possible and imagine everything in my head. May sound strange, but when I listen to this, the characters in my imagination are based off of the Ralph McQuarrie paintings rather than the actors from the films.

I also don't care as much for the ROTJ drama. The first one is really my favorite, it stands on its own, and really has that classic sci-fi feel to it. ROTJ suffers from having been made over ten years after the other two. Losing Mark Hamil in the role of Luke kicks it down a notch as well. No doubt it would have been better had it been made shortly after The Empire Strikes Back, but I am glad they eventually got around to making it, just for the sake of completing the trilogy.

DarkFather, glad to see you have taken the time to track these down and listen to them. I am sure you'll find they were well worth the time and money.

American Graffiti a single shot in the opening changed by cgi still to me the movie is ruined, another reason to own the laserdisc.

 That is just plain stupid

Well SkyJedi IS a blatantly stupid moronic dumbass.

That was pretty much uncalled for.

Not sure if budwhite was saying George changing the opening was just plain stupid (which is how I initially took it), or if sky feeling the whole movie was ruined because of it was plain stupid. But Gryphon's reply was pretty dickish response either way.

I know it sounds dumb, but I kind of feel the same way sky does. Just the fact that that bit is changed, kind of soils the whole thing. Illogical maybe. But everyone exhibits ridiculous illogical reasoning in some way or another. For example, I happen to absolutely freakin love sheep's brain. One of my favorite meals. I also eat beef tongue sometimes, and on occasion I like to enjoy a beer with a nice plate of beef liver and heart. I've noticed most Americans grow nauseous at the mere thought of eating these things. I've also discovered some people have a hard time eating fish when the head and skin are still intact (i.e. when it still looks like a fish). Why? To me this is dumb. I could very well go out on a whim and say any ignorant dumbass who has a problem with these things is not only stupid and moronic, but blatantly so. But I understand we all have our things, so I let it be and forgive them their close mindedness.

So yeah, I'll take the Graffiti laser disc over the screwed up DVD one any day of the week. However, someone mentioned the original shot is in the extra features. If that shot is indeed the only change, then that sounds like a pretty easy thing to fix and still have it all in DVD quality. I'll have to look into that.

I don't think things like the Darth Vader TPM poster indicates that they were not meant to be seen as true prequels. It was obviously used to market it to people who were familar with the old films. From a marketing standpoint, it would be unreasonable not to try to invoke nastalgia in such ways. Vader breathing at the end of the credits was not much more than an easter egg, a treat to the fans. "I have a feeling you'll be the death of me" was an in joke. And the ROTS ad calling it the end of the saga was again, marketing to the original audience, and indicating the fact that is was the last movie in the saga to be made.

I get what you are saying, and agree. The poor PT seems to suffer from some pretty harsh identity confusion, "Am I the beginning? Am I the end? I am so confused? What am I? I must be some kind of a freak!" (yup!)

I think all the things you mentioned were inevitable symtoms of being a series of prequels made 20+ years after their sequels. The actual features themselves, despite being clever enough to reference the older films in "cute" little ways ("I've got a bad feeling about this", "you'll be the death of me", and so on), seem to be striving to be true prequels.

It is George's complete lack of creativity that makes them seem as if they are made to be views with part one following six. With some creativity he could have found ways to make Anakin's turn convincing, to keep the "I am your father", "Leia is my sister" surprises intact for future generations. Just a modicum of creativity is all it would have taken, but the old man is spent, he's got nothing left. He has been demostraiting that to us again and again since 1999. Instead of even trying, he gives up and says that it was impossible.

George, who was the primary creative force behind the PT claims that they are meant to be seen before the others. His intention was to make them all fit together as a series to be seen chronologically. He just couldn't to it.

As a result of his miserable failings, mixed with nostalgia targeted advertising and a few in jokes, and you have a very good reason to believe they were intended to be seen in the order in which they were made.

At least, that is my perspective on it. Though I have to concede, they work much better as companions to the OT, non-canonical extra features intended to be seen after the main features, meant to give viewers an idea of what might have happened in those years before the rise of the Empire and the near extinction of the Jedi. Somehow, I have a feeling George and I would fail to see eye to eye on this though.

It is not bullshit to claim the PT was made to be seen after the original trilogy. It is pure fact that they were made to be seen before the original trilogy.

The issue here lies in the fact that the PT was so poorly done, so little attention was paid to details and to making it mesh with the other three films, that they simply do not work.

Whatever evidence someone can give for them being halfway decent films, whatever arguments can be made about some fans being too harsh and not giving them the chance, the fact remains that they simply do not work as intended. You can't even argue with this. Anyone who claims they work and mesh just fine with the IV, V, and VI are turning a blind eye to the reality of the situation.

Shoddy workmanship. Plain and simple. The PT might as well have the label: "Made in China" stamped on them. They are dollar store quality, at best.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That gets me seriously angry, thinking about it. The first three films my arse hole. Revisionist nonsense.

Even after all these years of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom being a prequel to Raider's of the Lost Ark, and I still don't here people calling Temple of Doom the first Indy movie.

Of course this "first three films" thing was inevitable. I think it has something to do with the giant Roman numerals I - III.

What I Don't Care For in the EU
Time

^ Yeah. I just came up with those things off the top of my head to address why the galaxy seemed like a huge place, but yet thoughout the saga we find ourselves visiting the same planets again and again and again. Though from my personal experience, I have not seen that with the EU, back when I read the EU it seemed like it took us to all sorts of places not found in the movies.

The hot chocolate thing in Zahn's first book is the worst part about his series. It was totally unecessary, and suddenly I was expecting the gang to be meeting up at the local Deny's for breakfest, go to a baseball game, have a few hotdogs and some popcorn, then go out for a few Budwiesers afterwards.

In the movies they were careful to stay away from earthly terms as much as reasonable. We were shown exotic animals and drinks (Luke's family drinking blue milk for example). The mention of hot chocolate was a great way to kind of destroy that authentically alien quality.

As for the big pussy in the desert thing, I've never been with a British girl, but if they have weird venus flytrap like stalks and tentacles down there, I'd like to keep it that way! I think that comparison for the sarlacc became obsolete after the SE was released.

Worse than Jar Jar? That is obviously hyperbole. Everybody knows that there is absolutely nothing worse than Jar Jar. Saying that something is worse than Jar Jar is like saying something is wetter than water, brighter than the sun, or more painful than passing kidney stones.
