Make as many versions as you can/want, that way we'll have more choices .

I'm sad to announce that apparently both automatic IVTC methods I found failed and manual IVTC still seems to be the only way to go with the VHS sources. However, I am progressing nicely in the filterchain of the DVD sources: pretty much all of the HORRIBLE rainbowing has been removed and I might have found a way to remove (or at least dampen to almost unnoticeable status) the NASTY haloing without killing details and sharpness in the process.

Everyone: please try to contribute. There are lots of things you can do without having to create subtitles or do manual IVTC, none of which consumes more than 5 minutes a day.

Anyway, I recently came across two new automatic IVTC methods I'll be trying soon on the VHS captures. Wish me luck!

Ooo, what hath thou discovered in the realm of IVTC??

De

Bobbing (two different methods, one of which requires a FAST computer and 1GB Ram) + a fieldmatcher that works on bobbed streams.

Stedwick: we probably bought that one too before finding out that it was still being aired on TV .

P.S: start looking on every search engine, P2P software and asking to friends about subtitles and the latin american dubs, please. The more of us searching, the better the chances of finding something. Also, confirmation on the alleged Marvel record order would be nice as well.

Darksaber: all 85 episodes of the original batman animated series have been released on DVD quite a while ago and are readily available on Amazon. As for Spiderman, there have been quite a few DVD releases, but I don't know how many and from which of the many series.

klokwerk: yeah, I already had noticed the remaining haloing/ghosting. Incredibly enough, the DVDs, while obviously more detailed than the VHS tapes, seem to have more issues like very nasty rainbowing and haloing/ghosting . At least they don't have to be IVTCed manually
though, which is a HUGE plus. This is, however, the first filterchain I tried: I usually try 5+ filterchains until I'm satisfied.

Booshman: I can't thank you enough for your research, even more so for persevering. Be creative, try as many places as you can and check your sites and P2P programs every day as content on them constantly varies. Also, try to get your friends to do some searching too if they can (without telling them about this project until it's done of course). YGPM, BTW .

Help: looking for... Where can I find "The Matrix: DEZIONIZED" by CBB?
Time
Ell the Ewok: that's a broad generalization. Native PAL does have a bigger framesize and much better colors than Native NTSC, but it also has a lower framerate.
The source for DVDs should be the original FILM (23.976fps) source, but it's not always the case. More often than not, PAL DVDs are made by standards-converting NTSC DVDs. Standards conversion can be done in a multitude of ways, but for speed reasons most of the times frame blending methods are used, so you'll likely see ghosting if you look close enough. Even if you do it the right way (IVTCing the NTSC DVDs and then speeding up), that's no match for just taking the FILM source and speeding that up, which, like I said, is rarely done for speed reasons.

PAL DVDs will be better than NTSC DVDs only if the source is native PAL or if the source is FILM that's later sped up.

I see some serious bug bit you where the sun don't shine, boon23. I'm from Uruguay, a PAL-N country. My reasoning was to assume that most semi-modern DVD players and TVs can playback PAL and NTSC DVDs without much issue. Your group release is in PAL, so you either used the PAL DVDs (most likely standards converted in a sloppy way by the authoring house) or standards converted the NTSC source yourself. None of these alternatives would yield the same quality as taking the NTSC source, IVTCing it and making an NTSC FILM (23.976fps+pulldown) out of it, which is why I asked my question. There was no need to treat me like an ignorant which on this matter I'm not.

Thanks for the info. It's kinda funny that when I enter to check if there¡'s an answer, a thread talking about the CBB group (how could I miss that reading the official index?) pops up in the front page . Anyway, is this it:

[edit] Sorry, I should know better

? Any idea as to why it's only 3.08GB (maybe it's in RAR format)? Also, any idea why it was converted to PAL and not kept in NTSC?

Feedback Wanted: X-Men animated - aired order or Marvel record order?
Time

In my search for material regarding this series, I found that the way the series aired was not at all related as to how they were intended to, mainly because of issues between the different overseas animation groups involved. Aside from the aired order, there were both an intended episode order and a record by Marvel itself saying how the episodes should have appeared. You can check out the differences here:

http://rapidshare.de/files/13316963/Air_dates_Vs_Marvel_Record.xls.html

When the project I’m a part of is finished, would you rather have the DVD with the original aired order or with the Marvel record order?

P.S: how can I make a poll?

DVD-Boy: well there are far more DVDs for Evolution than for the 1992 series. Besides, I don't like Evolution at all: its approach to the characters and the graphic style just don't do it for me. The formats you chose are perfect, and if Jay lets me I'll bump this every time it goes down to page three and ask him to delete all my posts containing a bump. And do take your time, we have been at this project for so long that we learned to be patient . As for authoring, I really like DVDLab Pro, but we'll make a decision when the time comes.

Mackey256: we would do that if we could, but the differences are far too great to allow it, resulting (like Knolly said) in annoying disc swapping. The lists I posted are quite annoying to compare, you can see the differences more clearly here:

http://rapidshare.de/files/13316963/Air_dates_Vs_Marvel_Record.xls.html

[edit]I'll make the poll as a separate thread.
