I’m not sure I like the idea of Ben Solo taking up a still fizzly, unstable blade at the end climax, though.

It would show that he can’t undo the damage he’s done, but he can still use what’s left to do good.

Plus it’s a nice parallel to Kylo’s saber. It’s now a “good” version, but there’s still a remnant of his troubled past.

Although, while a shot LIKE that would be nice, that particular shot doesn’t particularly scream end of movie. Rey doesn’t look emotional either.

I agree, that shot feels too active, it gives off a “time for another adventure!” vive, which is what it originally is, instead of a finale. And Rey loses all the emotion from the “Rey Skywalker” moment.

The chess scene works in a better, more subtle way to show that Rey’s friends travel with her. I much prefer the current, simpler ending. It puts the focus on Rey and the Skywalkers, and ends with just the Falcon riding off into the (binary) sunset. Classic!

Hmmmmm… it still feels weird to refer to jumping to lightspeed right after physically bursting through a barrier as ‘lightspeed skipping.’

It could refer to Poe altering or skipping proper lightspeed calculations causing the Falcon to be damaged on the jump to hyperspace. Either way it’s just nebulous technobabble without the actual skipping scene.

Also here’s an idea to make the lightspeed skipping talk feel less out of nowhere. Finn would have to be removed from the background of the cockpit and his voice processed to sound like it’s coming over the intercom. The music edit is also pretty rough and could hopefully be done better: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x5ShgpQTW1F45pNhWtahLPnlKkuPxW_3/view?usp=sharing

If it’s doable this would be such a clever fix, clearly making the hasty jump through the ice a “lightspeed skip”. It even makes Chewie’s roar cut less awkwardly than the theatrical version.

Since no one has brought it up, what about trimming the line “Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew.

It’s so dumb considering there was an entire war named after clones with no direct relation to the Sith.

Well, it’s nice to have an onscreen reference to the possibility of Palpatine being a clone. For lack of any other way to make that more solid of an idea, I’d be reluctant to remove it.

I was thinking of maybe only trimming the second part since cloning isn’t a Sith secret.

I like the idea of removing Leia knowing Rey’s heritage, given that there’s no way she would know unless it’s another one of her weird “Somehow I’ve always known” moments which just raises more questions about why she did absolutely nothing with this information.

Exactly! If Leia knew Palpatine had offspring it’s hard to believe it wouldn’t raise a flag.
"Hey… wait a minute, It all makes sense now! Palpatine’s behind it all!”

That’s really not bad. And you’re absolutely right, it shows Luke back in his right mind taking what the Force throws at him. I guess maybe in this version Leia may not have known at all. And, hey, why would she?

Thank you! 😃 I’m glad to help out. And yeah, they don’t adress HOW Leia knew either.

I loved the workprint so far btw. Fantastic work from everyone!

I agree the line about Leia knowing Rey was a Palpatine all along should be removed, leaving it just creates more questions than answers. How long did they know? Why did neither of them told her? This is never adressed further.

When I [and I assume, many others] watched it at the theater I took it as both Luke and Leia knowing from the very beginning, and both keeping it secret from her (much like how Obi-Wan & Yoda hide Vader’s true identity from Luke). This would mean Luke was just pretending not to know who she is on TLJ, ruining what’s imo the best part of that movie.

I have 0 editing experience, but I made a mockup to show how the scene could work:

I think it flows well. Rey’s expresion after Luke says “Because you’re a Palpatine” could be interpreted as her feeling sad/ashamed/scared that Luke knows her identity. By removing those lines it seems like Luke has just found out alongside Rey, and he shows how much he’s grown since TLJ by staying calm and trusting Rey, whereas in TLJ he is startled and flees after she fails her first lesson.

Yoda told Luke the future is always in motion. Luke had a vision of Han and Leia dying on Bespin, which he prevented by leaving Dagobah without completing his training. He also could’ve prevented all the “pain and suffering” if he had gone through and killed Ben. The deterministic approach to visions and prophecies was mostly a prequel thing.

Here’s the civilian fleet! There’s still gonna be room for more submissions until I render out the final edit at some point.

Well that’ll be a challenge to subtitle 😮

Nah, you would just put the distinguishable lines and then “comlink chatter”.

You’re right but I can’t make out most of the lines besides “We believe in you Poe!” & “For Skywalker!”. Though I think that’s by design.

Just a thought, based on DX-330’s & Hal’s ideas:

Hope lives. After the heroic sacrifice
of Luke Skywalker, countless systems
have taken a stand against the FIRST ORDER.

Trying to unite the disparate worlds in
the name of the RESISTANCE, General Leia Organa
dispatches her brave agents across the galaxy.
While Rey, sole heir to the Jedi, trains
for the brewing battle.

To suffocate this growing uprising,
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren seeks to find
the hidden power of his former master
on MUSTAFAR, haunted by visions
in the force…

My prequel edits have Spanish subtitles thanks to a volunteer. Originally MalaStrana did the French subtitles but I’ve done them since.

I’ll be sure to do Spanish subtitles for this and future releases, and go back and do them for ANH-TLJ. The work and syncing is done, as I can mirror the English subtitles’ timing to the Spanish ones. It’s not rocket science but requires some time and attention.

Hi, I found and binge-watched your edits a couple of weeks ago and have been stalking this thread ever since. Fantastic work!

I had to sign up to mention I’ve spent the last few days editing spanish subtitles for TFA & TLJ for personal use(to show them to my friends). But if they could be of any use I’ll gladly donate them.
