...It would be nice to have an Asian lead character in there seeing as so much of the inspiration for the series came from the Orient.

I guess the horribly stereotyped borderline racist nemodians don't count.

I agree that the galaxy needs more variety, and more women characters too.  Apparently there's only room for one woman in any given Lucas movie.

While I don't like this for the look of the sequels this is pretty awesome animation, I'd like to see a series like this!  What is this from??

... I kinda wish he could *still* be the one that would have the final say when it comes to choosing *all* the final character/ship/set designs etc. when it comes to this next trilogy...because just as replacing John Williams would dramatically change how things sound on the next trilogy, so will replacing George's taste in how things should look.  I'd be happy to see what future Director's come up with for 'Nu-Wars' *after* this latest trilogy, but I'd far prefer to see this initial trilogy tie-in with George's particular 'production design' tastes to 'finish' things off.

Anyway, along with the storylines, it's gonna be an interesting journey to see what kind of 'cinematography' will be used on future instalments by *whoever* directs them in future.  Will we get a slew of 'crazy angles' and lots of 'slow motion' & 'long, extreme zoom-ins' from now on?  Who knows...but things are likely to look *very* different in the forthcoming live-action 'Star Wars' movies from now on.  And that's not necessarily a bad thing I guess, as long as the stories and scripts are worthwhile...

I agree, I think that having Lucas involved in not just the basic story but the aesthetic is important for consistency.  If the new ones don't have that classic feel, complete with Williams score and old fashioned wipes, etc, I don't think they'll feel like the same universe at all.

There's one questionsurprisingly no one asked about all this huge news... which is who the villain/antihero would be...

If I had any money (and I don't) I would put it on another dark jedi being the villian.  You kind of have to have a dark jedi to fight the good guy jedi's.  Maybe one of Luke's students switches over?

That's probably true.  I'm guessing he just doesn't want the technical side of things to be the focus of the project or to start a debate about gear and software?

From sources that I have heard from, expect restored prints of the OUT to surface in the near future folks. This could possibly be the same year episode 7 comes out.

I keep reading on different forums about "sources" saying we'll get OUT.  Is anyone able to supply any firm info on this?  Who are these sources?  You don't have to name them but maybe let us know if they're somebody with legitimate inside knowledge?

...So here is a comparison, top is a screen grab from the trailer of the 35mm -1 cleaned up capture and the bottom is a screen grab of project blu v2

The image quality difference is striking. What I don't understand is why the image from 35mm film is so much different than an upscaled laser disc master? Beyond anything else why is it so blurry?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what is project blu v2?

In the months before Disney announced it would acquire "Star Wars" studio Lucasfilm, several different screenwriters paid visits to Lucasfilm's Northern California compound to pitch George Lucas and his co-chair Kathleen Kennedy their ideas for the new live-action installment, the series' seventh, according to a person familiar with the talks who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about them. The screenwriters were pitching ideas for a new story, not ones adapted from existing "Star Wars" books.

The person did not reveal the identities of the people who had met with Lucas and Kennedy but said they were well-known screenwriters with experience creating big-budget Hollywood films. A spokeswoman for Lucasfilm on Wednesday did not return a call seeking comment.

Gawker's Magary compared his love for the franchise to "rooting for a sports team that never wins anything (or more accurately, a sports team that won three titles 30 years ago and hasn't won a game since)."

I'm 100% certain that any new films will be new stories, not from any existing books. People can just get that idea of their minds - they have already made this pretty obvious.

If they're serious about bowing in 2015, they'll retool an existing story AND THEY'LL LIKE IT!

Seriously.  I don't know about retooling existing stories but if they don't start cooking soon dinner isn't going to be done on time!

We all owe to George lucas the love of Star wars he IS the maker, he changes cinema for ever, he will be always "the Chosen one" who makes us dream, some of us (many) don't like what become to star wars..but it's his creation after all..George lucas is and always be a genius.

kevin smith, ben affleck, edgar wright, Duncan jones, one of these gentlemen should direct the next Star wars.

I don't want to stir up any debate but I'll throw myself onto some train tracks if Kevin Smith directs the next star wars.  What about Spielberg?  Ever since I was a kid in the 80's there've been rumors of him directing one.

Not a Kevin Smith fan? :-D

Not at all, though a lot of my friends are.  I haven't seen all of his movies, though I have seen most, but I guess I shouldn't rush to judgement.  Has he ever directed a movie that he hasn't written?  I guess you never know, I remember hearing that Peter Jackson was doing lord of the rings and thinking "Wha??  The meet the feebles guy?!"

Despite his many misses I think Spielberg would do a fine job, he seems to understand the sense of wonder that a star wars film needs.

Has everyone forgotten that George believes the end of the world is this December.

Does he really believe that rubbish?

No, I'm pretty sure he was joking.

The more I think about all of this the more excited I get.  It can't really take anything away from us (unless they go after the preservations).

A lot of pessimism on this board.

This may be the result of LFL dicking-over its fans so many times *cough*GOUT*cough*.

This may also be the result of Disney dicking-over its fans so many times *cough*Song of the South*cough*.

This implies that once she goes LFL + Disney, she'll never go back.

(Take from that previous sentence what you will.)

The OUT and Song of the South situations could not be more different.  Clearly there's a reason Song of the South is locked away.  It's really not accurate to compare them.  Besides, Fox still has the original trilogy, right?

I agree. It may be worthwhile to get IV-VI out the door warts-and-all (at 2K) before it's too late.

Someone else (or even the original team) can pickup from there to do the restoration work.

I don't mean for this to sound entitled, so please don't interpret it as such. I'm just worried about the future of this project and our entire community, for that matter.

I kind of agree with AntcuFaalb.  I worry that the restorations will get shut down.  I was never paranoid before about this forum or these projects but Disney...man... Disney....  I don't know.  Does anyone know how they handled Marvel after they bought it?  Did they crack down on Marvel fan stuff?

Ok, I'll say it since no one else has yet...

"I have a very bad feeling about this."

I really do, I'm kind of nervously excited about the idea of more movies, I mean I've already sort of divorced the idea of the prequel era stuff from my childhood memory of star wars, but the idea of a Star Wars movie without Lucas being involved at all feels wrong.  Even more wrong than the prequels felt.  This has always been Lucas's "baby,"  I'm kind of shocked that he's letting it go.  He doesn't need the money.  This all just feels weird to me.  Maybe it will all be ok.

Would anyone like to take a listen to my work I've done in audacity to the droid World recording? I think I've removed about as much hiss and noise as I possibly can without affecting the quality of the recording. I would welcome some fresh ears to tell me what I can do better to make it sound great. Still a newbie to Audacity, and the sliders are driving me batty. PM if interested.

Cheers,

If you want I'll try to clean it up in audition, I used to edit audio for a living.
