Star Trek V - Re-Edit (InThyImage) (Released)
Time
No way man, life is far too short to even consider "hey, I posted that FIRST!" garbage. If people do this for the glory, that's the wrong reason. I do think we should greatly respect those who take time out of their lives for fan edits, conversions, preservations, dvd covers, etc, but as you said, satisfying others and supporting the geekdom common good is far far better and reward enough.

Payback (1999) (Released)
Time

I’d love to get a copy of this director’s cut, if someone has it. Here’s what the IMDB says:

Director Brian Helgeland’s cut was significantly changed by producer/star Mel Gibson before release and was 15 minutes shorter than the final version. Here are some of the differences to Gibson’s highly publicized reshoot version of the film that was released into the theaters.

  • The opening shot of Porter in the doctor’s office is not in Helgeland’s cut. The film begins with Porter on the bridge returning to the city. Brian’s cut doesn’t suggest the double-cross until we see the flashback.
  • A more harsh exchange when Porter visits Rosie (Maria Bello) for the first time.
  • Odds and ends with Val Resnick (Gregg Henry) throughout the film. Includes a curbside threat to the David Paymer character and a funny scene calling Pearl (Lucy Liu) on the phone.
  • In Helgeland’s version, Porter does not merely appear in Resnick’s hotel room in the mob hotel. He sets fire to a garbage truck to distract the hoods out of the hotel lobby, then has a nasty encounter with another hood in the hotel elevator, eventually leaving the hood unconscious with the elevator doors banging open and closed on his head. Gibson describes this scene in an interview in Premiere Magazine: “I get on an elevator with some guy,” Gibson says with relish, “the guy notices I’m not supposed to be on the elevator and the next time the doors open you see that I’ve ripped the guy’s eye out. Then I see him later as he’s going into some office, and I say, ‘Oh, it’s you again, Cyclops’ and I poke the guy’s other eye out.”
  • A small exchange between Porter and the Asian gang.
  • When Val breaks in and beats up Rosie, Porter the dog gets shots in the head and remains dead. In Mel’s cut, the dog lives.
  • The two versions of the film begin to change greatly when Porter confronts Fairfax (James Coburn). The dialog is different and the outcome of the scene is changed.
  • The Kris Kristofferson character of Mel’s cut replaced a female “Outfit” boss voiced by Angie Dickinson. She’s never seen in the film. When Porter begins to kill her associates, the boss almost immediately gives in to Porter’s demands. In Mel’s cut, the boss was a bigger character and provided a bigger climax. All the boss’s son and torture scenes are not in Brian’s cut of the movie.
  • The climax of the film takes place on a mass transit platform. Porter arranges to pick up his cut of the money, but the boss dispatches hitmen to stop him. He gets the money, but is shot in the chest. Stumbling out of the station, he drops the bag and a homeless man picks it up. Porter refuses to put up a fight and begins to die. Rosie finds him and slaps him back to life. Porter suggests a doctor he knows can patch him up. The final shot is of the two driving out of town.

can't spare any bandwidth, really, but I should have PowerPost set up by about the time Brimley finishes his vcd post.

Thanks for being willing to help us out with a higher quality rip! I really enjoyed the VCD he made, but I'm glad I'll eventually have something better to give to my Trekker family and friends. And you're right- the sound is amaaazing. It's not a perfect fan edit, but it's a great example of just how anyone can basically do something like this! Thanks again!

Star Trek V - Re-Edit (InThyImage) (Released)

Here's just a little more info on it: It's from Jack Marshall, the creator of the acclaimed Star Trek: New Voyages fan film series (http://www.newvoyages.com/). Here's what he said about it on a message board (http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=5057140)

I did a re-mixed version (the one Mudd is refering to above)about the same time I put out a version of the Phantom Edit. In the Trek V remix, I cut it down to 68 minutes and cut it like a TV show with act breaks. I formatted it as if it were the pilot from the aborted Phase 2 Trek series. I used stock footage of visual effects where possible to remove some of the subpar effects that found their way into the film. There's also a mixing in of classic Trek music cues, and among other things, cut out references to Sybok being Spocks half brother, and those other odd moments like too many decks, lost crew members, and more.

I hope that clears up any confusion. It is NOT the one where some guy was going to add new special CG effects (details of which can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/phineasbg/trek5se.html).

It was torrented a couple of months ago, but it looks like the tracker is down.

***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD
Time
Hey David,

I can't believe what I just watched today! It was just stunning. You've made an amazing hybrid that will certainly be remembered and referred back to time and time again. And you do a pretty darn good Mark Hamill impression! I unfortunately didn't have the complete list of changes in front of me when I was watching it, but the fact that I couldn't detect a lot of your changes is a HUGE compliment- they blended in seemlessly!

Major major kudos for such an undertaking! My Paypal is coming shortly!

The Radio Drama DVD project (Original Trilogy) (Completed - Not Released)

I had in mind a project similar to this, but I was going to throw in scenes from the film (comics, etc) to give a visual for the dialogue.

When I first saw this thread, that's what I was envisioning. I think a great source of images would be production art and art from the Star Wars Galaxy trading card set from Topps. They had some wonderful takes on some classic images, characters and scenes that are free from PT influence and (IMO) very much jive with the vibe from the radio dramas.

Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)

Wow wow wow. I think you took the correct approach- painting in elements from the original LD transfers. Do these elements stand out, though? I wonder if using a PAL LD as your original source plate would work better, since the resolution is probably a lot closer to the new 2004 transfer. But excellent work. I look forward to snagging this from the spleen when it's available.

Cheers!
