A Date Which Will Live...in Infamy
Time
I can't believe someone would post some crap here about being "ashamed to be an American." This mentality is one of the most upsetting things someone can hear from a fellow countryman/woman. Sure, you don't have to like/agree with everything the U.S. does, but that doesn't mean you should go ahead and declare it the Great Satan. People like this should try living in a country without the luxuries, freedoms, and amenities we have here in the U.S. I guarantee they'd change their tune quickly. I find it disgraceful they should choose the Pearl Harbor thread to vent their anger. This day is about remembering and honoring our fallen family members, not disgracing them by saying that you hate the country they gave their lives for.

I like both lines. The first one shows dark humor, the other one shows a darker side of Ash.

Which one is being used in this fanedit?

Hopefully, the first one, because it's funnier and reflects the entire "tongue-in-cheek" nature of the movie.

Freedom of religion in this country is also freedom from the religion of others.

You are sorely misinformed. Can you provide constructionist language that supports your point?

OK, well I don't really know what "constructionist language" is, and I'm not going to bother debating this to death with people who would rather nitpick my argument than provide rebuttal arguments, so I'll just provide a link to what I think is an interesting article about freedom of vs. freedom from religion. It contradicts some points I tried to make earlier and back up some as well.

http://atheism.about.com/od/churchstatemyths/a/freedomfrom.htm

If you don't want to read the whole thing, I think this paragraph sums up the argument nicely: "What freedom from religion does mean, however, is the freedom from the rules and dogmas of other people’s religious beliefs so that we can be free to follow the demands of our own conscience, whether they take a religious form or not. Thus, we have both freedom of religion and freedom from religion because they are two sides of the same coin."

First of all, I never said anything about the Crusades, nor did I say that Christians shouldn't be allowed to express their religious views, nor did I say that well-meaning Christians are hate mongers. You all did a very good job of drawing incorrect conclusions from things that I didn't say. My point was that Christians as a whole are not being persecuted. If they were being persecuted then the government would be tearing down decorations from private properties and shutting down churches. Being forced to remove religious icons from public property is simply not the same thing. I personally love Christmas and enjoy seeing the decorations, trees, Santa, and all those things. In fact, it does make me a little sad when well-meaning Christians are forced to take them down. However, I don't agree with the sentiment here that everyone is "out to get the Christians" by taking these things off of public property. Freedom of religion in this country is also freedom from the religion of others. Like it or not, it's the way it has become. If you don't like it, and want to see it changed, then more power to you. But you should get out and become politically active, because complaining about it on an online forum will do nothing.

I find it ironic that Christianity has been responsible for some of the biggest religious persecutions the world has ever known, and now that the tables have turned, all they do is bitch and moan about it. So what if you can't display the nativity scene on government property? Boo hoo. Does that make your faith somehow diminished? I guarantee that if some group tried to put Jewish or other religious icons on government property the Christian religious right in this country would be all over getting rid of that. Maybe you should stop being all "woah is me" for a minute and realize that maybe not everyone in the world is Christian, and maybe your way of viewing things isn't the only way to do it.

I never quite understood the American (as far as I know) obsession with post-peeing hand-washing. Although it's fine to wash one's hands as often as is convenient, that's precisely because one's hands are the body parts most exposed to germs and dirt. As such, it's not my hands that should be washed after touching my dick, but my dick that should be washed after having been touched by my hands.

Your entire body is covered in germs at all times. These are called "normal flora." It is when you have an infection of the normal or not normal flora that you get sick. There are a lot of germs on your hands, but more in the urogenital/anal regions. It is always a good idea to wash your hands after you use the bathroom. Let's say you are currently experience an asymptomatic urethritis (basically a urinary tract infection that isn't causing you any major discomfort) and then you don't wash your hands, and later you eat something.... well, you just ingested the bugs that were living in your urethra. Chances are you'll be ok, but if it happened to be something particularly nasty like Shigella, Salmonella, or Campylobacter, then you are going to regret not washing your hands. It doesn't take long, and should always be done.

Going off of what we just learned in my Infectious Diseases class, I'd have to say yeast infection by far. So, if Romero is Candida albicans, and Lucas is Neisseria gonorrhea, then I suppose Romero would be better. I apologize for my rambling incoherence, since med school has quite obviously killed my brain.

Stargate SG-1 Cancelled
Time
If any of you, like me, are huge Sg-1 fans, then you'll certainly be disappointed to read that the show has been cancelled. It will be allowed to finish it's 10th season run, and then it will be over. The producers are currently shopping around for new networks, or possibly a feature film. Here is a link to a website to help save Sg-1: http://www.savestargatesg-1.com/
