For what it’s worth I also use his Battle of the Heroes and Duel of the Fates mashup over the Death Star lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo. That one is available below:

Nice, I plan on using this exact audio in my cut:

It’s my one of my favorite SW soundtracks, it further pushes the parallels between the TROS duel and the ROTS one (my favorite), and fits very well.

And skenera, that looks great! I don’t think it looks too video game-y at all anymore.

I’d be happy to try my hand at it and see if I can get it to blend. I’m new to fan editing myself and know the learning curve can be daunting but it’s opened up so many new and exciting possibilities. Keep at it and let me know when your cut is finished. I’d love to check it out.

Great to hear, looking forward to seeing it. And regarding my TROS edit, I’ve started on a few parts but mostly I’m waiting for the crackly saber work that’s been in development for Hal’s TROS Ascendant to be done so I can use a lot of that edit as a starting point for mine. Plus I’m in the middle of a very busy semester so I don’t have much free time haha but I’ll get there

That’s really cool! Great work, you nailed the timing. I love that trailer soundtrack and plan on using it in my edit for when Palpatine is disintegrated and all of the Sith Eternal / Final Order destruction begins- it feels so much more climatic to me than ANOTHER unfitting misuse of the Force theme, and it’s just a beautiful piece of music that I think deserves to be included.

I have a rough mockup here but I’m very inexperienced in editing so it’s a bit rough, my main issue was trying to blend the cut-off and the original audio right after General Pryde dies.

I’m planning on trying to learn more and refine it, but I’d love to see someone else take a shot at trying this

Okay, I took a stab at color correcting the insert shot of Leia holding the medal. It struck me that, given how bright the blueish backlight is in Leia’s Death Chamber™, the dim, golden tone of the medal clip kind of stood out. Bear in mind that I’ve never color-corrected anything before, and my entire experience consists of watching one YouTube video; so if anyone out there knows what they’re doing and wants to offer some feedback, I’d be grateful!

Original (for comparison): https://streamable.com/soz9a7

I may actually want it to be an even brighter blue. Hmm…

Another attempt - much stronger blue tones, and it’s a bit brighter to hopefully better match the quality of the lighting in the surrounding footage. Also shifted the color mask over to try to imply directional lighting. Is it too much?

Nailed it! That looks great. I’d totally use this in my edit

This is definitely an improvement, I like the inclusion of the medal shot but the colors differing in the original definitely makes it stick out poorly. I’d be interested to see a more blue one like you said.

And regarding why Palpatine was confused by the dyad power if Snoke was on some level a meat puppet, I’ve always just assumed that Snoke was lying about “bridging their minds”. This instantly fixes that issue lol

Is it a clone? I thought it was now canonically Palpatine’s spirit inhabiting a Palpatine clone body? So, functionally the original Palpatine reborn.

It’s moot anyway I suppose, I think there’re two valid schools of thought here.

Yeah as per the TROS novelization it’s a clone body of him that he used Sith magic to transfer his spirit into, which then decayed since the Sith Eternal hadn’t perfected cloning Force-sensitives yet. When he saps the Dyad power, not only does it rejuvenate him, but it actually amps him to the most powerful we’ve ever seen.

For how much controversy this explanation causes, I actually like it. It’s a nice connection to him learning about cloning during the prequel era and it only makes sense to me, plus it’s just as convoluted as any of his other plans in the prequels lol. But FWIW I’m somehow who loved Palpatine’s return in TROS and don’t think the movie could’ve made sense any other way.

Speaking of video game footage, I’ve managed to get a new version of the Ajan Kloss clip directly off a friend’s PS5. It’s not as good as 4k max settings on a PC sadly, and saving footage on the console itself isn’t as good as using a capture card, but Battlefront 2 on PS5 does use improved effects/textures/lighting over the last gen, with the difference being noticeable compared to the clip that was posted here a few days ago (which originated from a standard Xbox One). It’s also still 1080p/60fps.

If anyone wants to try messing around with it, here’s a download (don’t watch in browser, the preview is terrible).

Edit: it occurs to me that the clip may be more washed out than it should be due to an issue with the recording. I’ll look into fixing the issue, but if anyone wants to try the existing clip anyway, please do so.

This actually looks pretty good!

My personal hope is that an older Grogu joins Rey’s group in future EU material.

Hopefully! Ugh, can you imagine Finn and Grogu as trainees together? I respect that John says he’ll never come back, and it’s for very valid reasons… but that would be something I’d love to see.

https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/john-boyega-could-potentially-back-to-star-wars-an-animated-show-would-be-dope.html/

He’s said that he’d come back for an animated series. It would pretty much be my perfect Star Wars story- Rey training Finn? Ben coming back (good lord the potential here)? Training Grogu? FinnPoe? Rose getting more screentime? Fleshing out the Palpatine/Snoke storyline? More dyad lore?

God it would be so good lol. I think it could absolutely do to the sequels what TCW did for the prequels

The thing about the Anakin idea is it inevitably begs the question… why then? Why wouldn’t Anakin have appeared to him earlier? The Han scene is some combination of a Leia-induced hallucination and a visual metaphor for an emotional breakthrough, but Anakin’s ghost would just literally be the sand man himself manifesting. Why then and there? It’d also remove some of Ben’s agency from his turn, making it less of a personal choice and more of a response to getting a bit of a scolding from Grandad.

Of course, the Force Ghost question already exists in the movies as they are, and even in the OT, Obi-Wan’s choices of when to appear or not seem entirely motivated by plot convenience, so it’s not the end of the world. It’s apparent why Lucas decided when writing the PT that no one learned how to become a ghost until afterwards, haha, to avoid this sort of thing.

I know the wider canon does not matter but I believe there’s some place where it’s established Force ghosts could only talk to willing light-side users.

As someone who has collected and read literally every single canon story, I’m 90% this has never been established. Sadly there isn’t much Force spirit lore 😕

That’s great haha can’t believe I hadn’t seen those yet.

Yeah, maybe. I was thinking about embarking on a long journey of replacing Han in the Ben redemption scene with Anakin’s ghost, who is finally able to appear to him thanks to Kylo letting go of the darkness.

I would LOVE this. While the Han scene was masterfully done, I’ll always be frustrated that it wasn’t Anakin

I just finished going through the list of changes for Ascendant while planning the changes I’ll be making to the movie in my own edit, and I’m confused on the change:

Added a small bit of score from ROTS as Palpatine absorbs the power of Rey and Ben’s friendship (Cinefy idea)

Could you specify what music is used? I tried comparing the scene in the original movie and Ascendant v1 and they sounded the same to me
