It could be along the lines of the theory that Palpatine/Plagueis inadvertently created Anakin/the Chosen One. They thought they could use him, but in the end it was their undoing.

The story group has come out and disproved this many times:

In my mind, Rian Johnson’s modern take on Star Wars would have been wonderful in its own disconnected trilogy set in the Star Wars universe

Good thing he’s getting his own trilogy with a ton of time to work on it! 😄 can’t wait

Maybe I’m missing something obvious but what does changing it from “we’re a dyad in the Force” to “we’ve become a dyad in the Force” accomplish? Like why would it help to imply that they’ve recently become a dyad, especially when it may contradict the “What girl?” line Jar Jar brought up in TFA that implies Kylo has always subconsciously known about her. IDK, I like the always-dyad over the new-dyad because it further reinforces the concept of them being literal soulmates which I really like as someone who likes reylo

My main concern about having a Shaw ghost is that it would be impossible (at least with my abilities) to revert it back to the way we have it in v1 while still having the crackly saber. And I would want to do that for myself and everyone else who prefers Hayden.

Yeah in my limited editing abilities, I’m not sure how I’m going to handle that scene given that I’m planning on

-LUT applied
-Force ghosts (Hayden version)
-Keeping Leia’s saber blue
-Crackly Anakin’s saber

I’ve also been discovering that every time I look closely at a scene for this edit, the more issues I find with each scene. That’s on me, I admit it. Can’t imagine that’s healthy.

This is absolutely a real thing, it’s easy to nitpick something you already dislike and blindly love something you like. I’ve experienced it very much with easily ignoring or not noticing glaring flaws in my favorites, TLJ and ROTS, but it took what felt like forever to stop constantly trashing TROS and start appreciating it lol. Even sometimes now I catch myself mentally complaining about the most minor things in it that I would never even think about or consider in other movies. I have suucchhhh mixed feelings on this movie haha

I suppose it’s possible that as a moody teenager he ran away from home (the Resistance) and joined up with the wrong people for a while. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the canon answer eventually.

As someone who has read every single piece of canon media, I can confirm that’s literally the answer haha. There was a book released in August last year called “Poe Dameron: Free Fall” which detailed his spice-running career’s start and end. He initially got caught up in it because he was frustrated by how overprotective his father was of him after his mother’s death and how bored he was stuck in his boring small town on Yavin IV, so while in the only remotely interesting thing near his house, the local bar, he overheard some of the Kijimi Spice Runners discussing how they needed a new pilot (after the last one was killed) and he, in classic Poe Dameron fashion, acted like a hot-shot-best-pilot-in-the-galaxy and joined the crew as their new pilot.

I imagine the Luke figure batting fire toward the walker would be the best bet for about a second of footage followed by laughter. If Luke vanished without reappearing it may seem like the children are laughing at the defeat of this traitorous Jedi figure.

Agreed, I think showing him disappearing and then the children laughing gives off the wrong impression

Brewzter, that idea is exactly why I wish we could have Luke’s standoff replace the puppet show on Pasaana. I don’t care if it was their cultural holiday, I still feel that it would have been amazing to show it there again.

Exactly. It would be a small detail but it’s just so ridiculously obvious I can’t imagine how it didn’t happen haha

I think that’s the whole point, right? The First Order had scared the galaxy into submission at that point. Luke’s arc in TLJ was about accepting his status as the legend the galaxy needs- no one showed up to help the Resistance on Crait, but after Luke’s mythical stand-off with the First Order, his legend was back stronger than ever and it inspired the entire galaxy to rise up.

I think it’s cool how the general galaxy has an arc where they became complacent after the relatively small Rebellion took down the Empire, and ignored the warning signs of fascism coming back. The New Republic is wiped out, fascism returns, and the people are terrified. It’s the legend of Luke that inspires them to realize they can’t just rely on the Resistance as they did with the Rebellion, and everyone stands up across the galaxy. It’s a pretty relevant and important message to the real world right now too.

Here’s what I’m leaning toward as far as placement: https://vimeo.com/515582857

Yeah this placement works the best IMO. It doesn’t split up the shot of Kylo looking toward his mom and it draws your eyes to the medal as Leia lays down

I ask because people on this edit, myself included, liked the idea that Ben still has a crackley saber even on the light side. It shows that his past actions still exist. Also, some people could think it was a major visual effects error because up until that point the effect has blatantly been there.

Agreed, I think the idea of Anakin’s saber crackling when Ben wields it is the most symbolically powerful part

Back again with v3 of Anakin’s Force ghost. I’ve now made the fade-in smoother, added slight full-body movement, and made the transparency match the other three more. I’m pretty happy with this now, but I’m definitely interested in seeing if I can somehow get a slight blue aura around him and a bit of living motion like robe or hair movement although I think that’s far outside the realm of my abilities.

It makes the Light Side/Dark Side dichotomy more apparent, true - that would be a big step up from the J.J. version. But it still doesn’t quite explain why Palpy would order her to be killed when that would ruin his entire plan.

Don’t want to get back into that argument again lol. I just explained his plan, so I will just summarize the answer to your question. Rey was his Plan B to transfer his essence into if Kylo didn’t commit himself fully to the dark side. The test to see if he would go to the dark side is if he killed Rey. Make sense?

EDIT: Realized you might be talking about him backing his crane out and having his guards attack her. In that case, he was concerned that her intentions in killing him truly were pure and Jedi-like.

I think the edit is correct. He was like, oh shit, she’s actually able to kill me without giving into anger, so he just backs off thinking “whatever, my Sovereign Protectors will kill her and then I’ll try again with Ben”

To be clear, Palpy’s plan for Rey is:

  • Order Kylo to kill Rey.
  • Anticipate him both trying to mow her down with his ship. But actually not want to kill her after all.
  • Secretly lure Rey to him by means of…Ochi’s Dagger?
  • Convince her to kill him by telling her it’s what he wants?
  • Send his guards to try and kill Rey in the throne room as she’s about to kill him anyway
  • Try to kill Rey anyway once the guards fail to do so
  • Resurrect himself…some other way, I guess?
  • Rule over a galaxy that he’s completely destroyed.

All of this convoluted nonsense could be avoided if his plan can be retooled to “Kill Rey because she is the last great threat to his return.”

I don’t think so?

The plan was, now that Kylo had realized his potential to be a Sith by killing Snoke, to tell Kylo to go kill Rey. If Kylo kills her, then he further deepens himself into the dark side and will eventually kill Palpatine since he killed Snoke. In this scenario, Palpatine just transfers himself into Kylo like he wanted to do with Luke in ROTJ. Palpatine wins.

The alternate plan was the other route: Rey kills Kylo instead. If she did this, she would’ve fallen to the dark side, gone to kill Palpatine to take the throne, and he would’ve transferred into her. Palpatine wins.

However, he didn’t anticipate Leia and Rey helping Ben turn back to the light side, hence why he tells Pryde “The princess of Alderaan has disrupted my plan”. So he has a new plan! Goad Rey into killing him anyway just like he tried with Luke in ROTJ, who was protected/prevented from doing so by Vader.

However, she resists, Ben joins her, so new plan again! He decides to just sap their life Force and kill them. We don’t really know what this was, although it seems to be based on the original Duel of the Fates script in which Tor Valum teaches Kylo how to sap the living Force energy from plants, so maybe he expected to prolong his life with this. But surprise! They’re a dyad, and this power can not only fully rejuvenate him, but amp him up to the most powerful he’s ever been. Final new plan! Sap the dyad energy and kill them both.

I fully understand why people are frustrated with Palpatine in this movie, but I think it’s great how convoluted it is lmao. I think it fits his character perfectly and is very in-line with his numerous convoluted plans in the prequels.

List of space/ships shots that could hopefully be made by someone with WAY more skills than me:

  • Space shot of Ochi’s ship approaching Kimji
  • Shot of Ren’s TIE approaching Endor
  • Shot of Rey in Ren’s TIE leaving Endor
  • Shot of Rey in Ren’s TIE approaching Anch-To
  • Rey taking Luke’s X-Wing and leaving Anch-To in space
  • A tease of Vader’s TIE leaving Endor
  • The Falcon in space approaching Tatooine

I like all of these except for the TIE approaching Endor, I think it’s important to preserve the “surprise” when Kylo stops the Wayfinder on the throne room floor and it’s revealed that he’s there that way.

So I decided to try just pulling a still photo from the one YouTube video and then use that. It’s still just a still image and clearly from the one ROTS scene, but he’s actually smiling now and it looks more natural IMO. I’ll definitely still try to tweak it with improvements but otherwise, I’m pretty happy with how this has come out for just being a still image from ROTS haha

For comparison, the original edit I did with a ROTS promo photo:
