IMPORTANT: Forum software upgrade FAQs

Who knows, it may wind up changing. You can only do so much when creating an operating system. Sometimes, you just plain forget to add some piece of functionality in there. Maybe it will go back. I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it, and now I realize how handy it was. Although, my dock isn't nearly as congested as it sounds like yours is. Once in a great while, I find myself opening up my applications folder to find something I don't use all that often. Other times, I'll just double click the file I'm working on and let it open the app for me.

Dunno the network questions. Not my bag, baby.

As for the all applications, I had that back in OS 8 and 9. In X, I'm not sure how to get it in the Apple menu, per se. But I have found that an applications shortcut does exist in the "Go" menu when you are in Finder. Does that help at all?

Another go-round would be to open up your Mac HD and do a control+mouseclick (right click if you have a Mighty Mouse) on the Applications menu. Select "Make Alias" and drag the alias down into your dock. It's one extra step to get into the programs, yes, but at least your dock is cleaned up.

I'm still looking to see what else I can find to actually get it in the Apple Menu, but it doesn't look like this can be done as it appears the functions in the OS X Apple Menu are pretty fixed unlike OS 8 and 9.

TiVo/DVR

3RA1N1AC is right... it all depends on your cable service provider and their program listings. TiVo is only as good as the cable provider. I had set my TiVo to record the entire season of Tommy Lee Goes to College (morbid curiosity... sorry) after it had already aired on NBC. A rerun marathon of the show was set for VH1 one night very late at night. So I set my TiVo because the Comcast listings said all episodes were going to be run back to back. When I watched the next day, it only caught one episode of the show because the rest were incorrect listings. Not TiVo's fault. Some kind of miscommunication between Viacom (owner of VH1) and Comcast. Maybe a last second schedule change.

Actually, you can burn or record to an outside unit from TiVo as well. There are RCA outputs on the back of a TiVo box that will allow you to hook up a VCR or DVD burner so you can back it up. It's a wonderful thing. My wife and I finally invested in one a month ago and love it. Well, when we get it fixed, that is. The modem got fried in an electrical storm and now the unit cannot obtain program listings from Comcast (which it does via modem). We can still record but we have to set it like a VCR. Still much better than friggin' VHS tapes, which is what we used before this.

Starkiller, you missed one cool thing about the subscription... when, for example, you set your TiVo to find all the episodes of Lost to record, you can either tell it to record every instance of the show or just new episodes. With shows that are in syndication and still have new episodes on, this is great, because, otherwise, you will wind up with a TiVo full of King of Queens episodes, both old and new, when all you really wanted to see was the new stuff. But, if you are trying to catch up on the old stuff as well, then you're not just stuck with the new episodes. TiVo automatically finds them all regardless of time, date, and station.

They've been hinting at a lot of potential other villains. If you recall the Russian (?) girl that lived in Peter's apartment building in 2, I think her introduction may be a hint at Black Cat whom we all know is an antihero of sorts. Not a good guy, but not really a bad guy. More of a romantic foil for Peter and MJ. And we all clearly saw that this girl had a thing for Pete.

Degrassi Junior High is a cult classic teen melodrama out of Canada. Kinda like 90210 but with greater longevity and not quite as poorly acted. It's gone through three or four different iterations since it started in the 80s. It can be watched in the U.S. and maybe some other countries as well, just not sure what net carries it.

At first, I was really looking forward to Fletch Won with Jason Lee until the possibility was raised of having it done with Ryan Reynolds. I was completely gung ho about that one. But then RR said he was a bit too afraid to try to live up to those expectations. This was despite the fact that the author of the Fletch novels, Gregory McDonald, really wanted him as well. The most recently mentioned name has been Zach Braff ("Scrubs"). As much as I like Zach, I think Jason would be the better choice of the two. But I'm still hoping against hope that Ryan will change his mind.

It's not a new J&SB film. They just made appearances in the most recent season of the new DeGrassi series. And I think Kev directed some of them.

As for no new Jersey flicks, he lied. He had the urge and is doing it. From what I've read, most of the originals are returning and he also got Rosario Dawson in it. However, he is no longer involved in the Fletch project which upsets me.

No, that's not correct. Kirstin Dunst was being interviewed and she slipped letting people know that the villains were going to be played by Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace and listed the names Venom and Sandman in that order to correspond to the stars. However, she then admitted she probably should not have let that leak and tried to cover up by saying that maybe Church will play Sandman and Grace will play Venom.

And you must reserve "Bantha Poodoo" as well. Just for old time's sake and for those that annoy you.

Maybe we allow certain "higher" titles to be opted for as people reach greater amounts of time as active posters. They can either stick with their custom title after they reach a certain time period or opt for one of the others that they have "earned." I dunno. Just another thought.

Sorry, Jay. Been a few days since I've been on.

I like the idea, completely and wholeheartedly.

However, may I make a bit of a countersuggestion? Instead of allowing member voting for ranks, which, as DAYV pointed out, might backfire due to cliquiness (sp?), how about just having a requirement that those who just join remain at Padawan status for six months and, after that time, they are allowed to pick a custom title. The six months proves their dedication to the boards, plus we don't have spamming to achieve a certain post count.

If we must resort to some sort of voting for "higher" titles, maybe we just designate a committee that votes on these titles, instead of the board membership at large, and the committee should be determined by you.

So this whole "ignore" function... does it mean that you would never see any indication of a post from someone you don't want to read posts from therefore meaning that you could wind up reading a reply to this person's post not knowing that they ever posted anything in the first place which means the reply would lose all context? Or will there be some cell in its place that has some notification that a post was there from a person you've opted to ignore so you don't think you're going completely batty?
