Hey Bossk, I'm really enjoying the Mac. I've found a couple areas already where they could take a hint from Windows, but for the most part I think OS X provides a superior user experience. Specifically, changing the default folder view from icons to list mode is a simple matter in Windows. Open a folder in Explorer, set its properties to match your preferences, then apply those properties to every folder with a simple button click. In OS X, the best way I could find (on macworld.com) was to use the Automator, which manually opens every folder on your machine in the Finder and changes their attributes. It took literally 10 minutes for the Automator to finish the task--on a dual 2.5Ghz Power Mac. Is there a better way?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no better way. And I agree with you, that is one thing that really does bother me about OS X. After a while, I just became accustomed to the annoyance of it. Shame, really. But it's a minor annoyance considering all the other great aspects of OS X.

Banned?

Wow. So, it's monday morning, I'm sitting at my desk wishing I was dead, and then I read that over the weekend, AWK has been banned. Goodbye grey skies, hello blue.

...nothing can hold me when I hold you...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I was staying so neutral in this whole AWK thing that I really have no opinion about him being banned. When he started spamming my Six Degrees thread, I told him I didn't want him to do so, and he accepted my "request."

And this other guy that Luke mentions in the beginning of this thread, I've never even heard of before now.

Busy friggin' weekend.

Brosnan is no longer Bond, Daniel Craig is now Bond.

I think they were still going to try to stick with someone in their upper 30s/early 40s. They want to appeal to somewhat younger audiences while not alienating their bread and butter which are the fans that have been around for years, even decades. Hence why you hear so many rumors about guys like Hugh Jackman, Julian McMahon, and Ioan Gruffaud, among others.

Geeks also like new toys. I had a lot of fun playing around with my Power Mac last night. There was some frustration, but overall it was a good experience. The Mail setup wizard was annoying because there was no way to bypass it and create accounts directly that I could see. It insisted on checking my login info during setup and was having problems connecting to my POP server (worked fine in Entourage), so it just sat there churning away for several minutes. Canceling the wizard closed Mail completely. Kind of dumb. Installing Tiger couldn't have been easier though.

And finally, OS X is pretty. I have a strong attraction to good aesthetics. Superficial, but it adds to the experience.

Nothing superficial about it at all. Pretty packages and looks make you want to work/play with something. Be it a car or a computer or a woman or one of any number of other things.

I never use Mail or Safari. If I'm checking POP mail on a Mac, I stick with Entourage. Yes, it's Microschlock, but it's always worked very reliably. One of the better Windows software packages. Of course, at work I'm only running Panther, so maybe the Tiger upgrades to Mail and Safari are better. But I won't know just yet, and I doubt I'll be giving up my beloved Firefox anytime soon. Don't want to upgrade to Tiger just yet as it would require the new versions of Adobe software which I cannot yet afford. Maybe sometime down the line a bit. Or, if I buy a whole other Mac and run Tiger on that one while still running Panther on my PBook so I have the backup.

Good reasons. Well thought out. Not just someone who made the jump simply to make the jump. Kinda the same thing with me when I switched. I was going to go into video editing back when I was in grad school. I researched it and found out Macs were best. This was 1999. So I got my PowerBook. Granted the PC I owned before that was Win98, I didn't dislike it. In fact, when I actually went ahead and sold my old NEC, I nearly cried. I loved that machine. It was a great little Winbox. But it was aging and needed to be replaced. I still use Windows now. My work PC has XP on it and I like how it works. But I've just become so ingrained in the Mac culture that a Mac is all I own at home. May change. Who knows? Especially if work were to buy me a computer for home (not friggin' likely, though). One can never say for sure what will happen from one given day to the next.

SPOILERS (potentially)

I felt it only got better after this point. I was questionable about the first few episodes because of the emphasis on the "monster." After the point where you are, there is some focus on the monster. But much less when compared to the emphasis on the survivors' interpersonal struggles and the showing of their background stories. Those get soooo interesting when they start to intermingle a bit. KEEP WATCHING!!! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

Actually, no I don't get it. We typically grill up all sorts of things at the same time here. Ribs, burgers, steaks, hot dogs, veggies, potatoes. My grill can be covered with any number of things at a given time, space permitting. And none of them are really "bad." Steaks are looked at as the creme de la creme, per se. But nobody really scoffs at burgers and dogs and, if they do, we tell them to cook their own damn grub. Then everybody laughs and the person feels like a dipshit.

Hoichi, I've been doing the same thing to some degree. I got a set of the LDs burned to DVD from DigitalFreakNYC on this forum. I have since been spreading copies to some of my friends as well. Happy to say that I, personally, do not know anyone (virtual friends don't count) that owns the LFL DVD set. We even had a set burned as a birthday gift for one of my wife's bosses who wanted them.

Oh. Dunno. Steaks just don't work on a bun, I suppose. We wanted to create something simple and handheld and akin to sandwiches and using ground beef seemed to work I suppose. According to Wikipedia, some guy in Wisconsin was trying to sell meatballs at a county or state fair but nobody was buying them because they were too difficult to eat. So he flattened them and put them on a bun. Explains why we use ground beef and how it evolved.

No, that's not what I mean. I mean, why make a bbq with burgers, and not with real cuts of meat.

Maybe I'm just not understanding you right now, but how do you make a bbq with burgers? I mean, we do use real cuts of meat as well. Just not all the time. Are you asking why we have burgers at all? I'm at a loss right now.
