Should Star Wars Purists Shut Up?
Time
buddy x, I don't remember Jabba saying that at all in ROTJ. Was that an SE line or something? Maybe I'm blanking out on it, but I always considered myself relatively knowledgeable regarding the dialogue in that movie. Maybe I'm really getting old. Who knows?

As for being handed down the position... maybe Jabba inherited it, but that's not how it works in real-life organized crime. You are not given the position based on genetics because you have to earn the respect of the rest of your crime family. Imagine if Al Capone's son was some pimply faced weasel with no sign of backbone or initiative and then Al gave him the "throne" upon his own death. The family would faction off because there would be no respect for the successor. You have to work your way up through the ranks. If you happen to be blood relative who has worked his way up and is next in line, so be it. But it wasn't you're bloodline that got you there.

I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT - WHY SO MANY SW FANS DISLIKED THE PT...

For me to forgive the SEs, LFL would have to restore the Greedo/Han scene to its original glory and remove the Jabba scene. There are many other changes that have annoyed me, but those two fixes would make me forgive them. And they truly aren't that big a deal to make nor that important to the overall story that they couldn't be fixed (eliminated in the case of the Jabba scene) without screwing up Lucas' "vision".

They may have "set up" Brock as Venom. But you still need to "set up" the alien symbiote. Remember? In the comics, Parker gets this alien symbiote suit that can read how he feels and react accordingly. However, when he realizes that it is taking over his mind and body, he tries to get rid of it but it won't leave until the Fantastic Four help him. The suit escapes from the FF and finds its way to Eddie Brock and, hence, we have Venom. You can't just have Brock show up someday in a black suit that has swirling tentacles and can mutate into God only knows what without some kind of explanation as to where it came from.

My God, you really are slow, Luke. I've had that in my signature almost since the beginning of this site.

Don't worry, folks, Luke and I are oldtimers here and have been friends the whole time. We can talk this way to each other and not get offended. So don't worry about some flame war breaking out.

When was Eddie Brock in Spider-Man? I don't remember the scene. Refresh my memory.

As for the girl, her character's name was Ursula. I'm assuming she's the daughter of the landlord or the other guy in the apartment. But that's not a guarantee. She could just be someone living there. The landlord was Mr. Aziz and the other guy was Mr. Ditkovich (thank you, IMDb).

Ursula Aziz?

Ursula Ditkovich?

Dunno.

Black Cat's real name is Felicia Hardy with one alias being Felicity Harmon. Who knows. Both of those names could be assumed to hide her true identity. She's a cat burglar, after all. Why endanger her family?

Also, what's to stop them from completely altering Black Cat's background? She's not one of the better-known characters in the Spider-Man universe. They could get away with it. And the love triangle would be an interesting twist in a future movie.

As for a villain in S-M 3, I'm pulling for Venom. Don't bring the second coming of Green Goblin into the fold this early. Give him some time to develop his skills. The only downside to Brock as Venom in S-M 3 is that you have to find some way to explain the alien symbiote suit and have it meld with Brock very quickly to make him a viable villian within two and a half hours. Maybe it would be best to resort to Green Goblin II and get the ball rolling with Brock in the movie to set him up for S-M 4. Okay, guess I just contradicted the first couple sentences in this paragraph entirely. C'est la vie.

Originals not lost
Time
You can't buy it in stores anymore in any format. That's what he's saying. The majority of consumers around the world don't sit around searching eBay and collector sites trying to find it. They go with what they are familiar with... bricks and mortar stores, bestbuy.com, amazon.com, etc. You cannot find the original trilogy in its unaltered state (or in it's pre-SE THX-remastered state) in any format in these places. We are fighting to make the OT available in common places where everybody can easily find and purchase them. To have to enter a bidding war on eBay or buy a bootleg from someone whose reliability is questionable at best is not how consumers should have to find the original copies of one of the highest grossing series of movies of all time. If this were some B movie, it would be understandable. But not Star Wars.

Agreeing to disagree truly is the way to go. I have nothing against the PT and I've said it many times. I wasn't a huge fan of TPM, but I liked AOTC. That's just me. I've also explained that the reason why I can tolerate the PT better than most is that I try to think of them as movies that are only related to the OT in that they share the name "Star Wars". Otherwise, in my mind, they are a completely separate series of movies. Makes it easier to swallow. I gave up on George completely fulfilling my vision for Star Wars years ago. I don't hold these movies against him, but how can I possibly expect him to incorporate my vision along with millions of other fans' visions in with his? Impossible. They're his movies and he can do with them as he pleases. I will still watch them.

And I've said this, the OT are his movies as well. He can do with them as he pleases. However, since he has released them in theaters in so many different versions, each and every one of those versions should be released for the fans on DVD. Hence why I keep fighting the good fight on this site.

Coffee, maybe it is pointless dribble to you. Hey, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. That's what is so wonderful about the web, you can have an opinion and share it with millions of people for a relatively low cost. Me? I find Erich's posts to be quite funny and insightful. I don't have to agree with them all, but I enjoy reading them and will continue to read them. Way to post, Erich. Effectively, he's doing the same thing I do on my site, rant. He's just a bit more directed (anti-PT) than I am.

Never shut up, Erich. It's your right to have an opinion and your post about movies as consumer products explains it all too clearly. Until you are given the opportunity to obtain a refund on a movie, sharing your opinion (be it positive or negative) is really your only recourse.
